welcome back. we have breaking news. the situation changed very quickly over here in the tri-valley, dublin going away from the interchange and toward the dublin grade, i just learned the entire westbound direction of 580 has been closed for a crash. it went quickly from a couple of vehicles and then a semi truck was mentioned and they said all lanes are blocked. i hope that means they just need to clear vehicles quickly so they can reinstate the commute. but right now you can't access 580 westbound and that may mean a bigger reroute. some folks may have to travel
4:48 am
toward 84. if you're coming from 24, you can take the roadway toward 580 and you may need a reroute if you're heading toward the dublin grade area. we'll follow this closely as it affects your morning commute and all drivers as they're driving through the area westbound on 580. eastbound on 580, we're talking about getting away from the area. this is a friday. a lot of folks may want to head toward all the snow we haven't been able to travel many weekends. this weekend we should be able to travel there but you're restricted to two or three lanes, depending on how much crew is out there at a given time. that will affect your afternoon commute. the rest of the bay moves smoothly, local lane closures. i talked about highway 9. there's traffic control right here on highway 1, one-way traffic control because of storm damage. and also here at 152 a couple of spots, so it cuts off the commute between watsonville and highway 101. i said the commute, but really what i mean is those that might

4:51 am
happening in the overnight hours, you might want to make sure you have evacuation routes in mind and all of the emergency supply kits you're going to need. enjoy this break from the rain and prepare for a storm to come in on tuesday. we will be under a microclimate weather alert, but you can count on us to make sure that you are ready to go. >> we will certainly be here, thank you so much. 4:50 right now. we are celebrating women's herstory. today we want to shine a light on a retired air force colonel whose not just for breaking barriers but for heroics. kim campbell rose to the top of what is considered a male-dominated industry. back in 2003 she was awarded the distinguished flying cross for successfully recovering her battle damaged airplane after an intense close air support mission in baghdad. this week actually marks the 20th anniversary of operation iraqi freedom, which she says has shaped her life and her career. >> i think what i remember most
4:52 am
and what i reflect on most is the men and women that i served with, my brothers and sisters that i served with and the hard times we went through, but also the camaraderie we shared together. >> a piece of that airplane is actually hanging in her office, but it will soon be on display at the smithsonian. she has this advice to offer to young women. >> i think my advice to young women, which is probably the same advice that i would give to young men, about becoming a pilot or going after your dreams, is that you have to work hard. you have to put in the effort to achieve those dreams. >> she'll be rewarded. kim retails her heroic story in her new book titled "flying in the face of fear". it's now available at local bookstores and on amazon. >> we want to highlight the work of an oakland restaurant owner making delicious meals, but also diversifying the industry and helping revolutionize employee safety. home room is known for its lavish mac and cheese recipes.
