merritt and it's heading down towards oakland. piedmont is over here, and highway 13 is a good option. we still don't have an estimated time when they will open the lanes for the investigation. chp is continuing with the investigation, and as they gather evidence they can't have any vehicles running through the area, and there's not a major issue, it's between lakeshore and 23rd, if you jump on to east bay 580, you are okay getting down through san leandro and hayward. definitely much drier than compared to this time yesterday. there still may lingering showers was head out, but for the most part we will see this wrapping up over the next couple of hours, and the rest of the day is looking much clearer, sunny and very chilly temperatures.

robbed, usually at night when the men were out for a walk. it was a scary situation for this man, who walks every day to get to work and home. he said he never tries to walk at night unless there's an emergency. one business is not far from where some of the robberies happened. she says it happened to her, too. >> it scares me because sometimes they came, they take things -- >> that's when her dad picks her up every night after she gets off work. >> because in the way right now, it's so dangerous sometimes when other people come and they can take our money or -- >> four suspects were arrested in connection to the 18 robberies. police say they also recovered some of the stolen items. >> these suspects were committing an average of three to five robberies a night. >> these cases will be presented to the alameda county district

josé. oh, you know, if you are out on the road, mike will get you through. you have already been busy this morning. >> yeah, we are all busy, and we are all gathering news but this is unpleasant. >> it is. >> let me show you 880. it's heading south through oakland, and it's clear, and getting away from the bay bridge is fine. east bay 580 is where you do not want to travel. police activity since last night, and folks, it's still going on. eastbound 580, southbound highway 13, both will funnel down towards 580 and you get on your way after that just fine. south of 23rd, you are okay, getting on the eastbound 580 as well. we do have a smoother drive for

the rest of the bay. contra costa county, no slowing shows up. we may have a crash as you head down towards the summit, kari. sounds like one lane could be blocked, and i will check in with chp. over to you. >> all right. we are starting out this morning with a look at how much rain we have pleasured. that was a decent storm we had for much of the bay area with all of the rounds of rain we had, and now that it's tapering off let's see where we measured. over an inch half for half moon bay. and san rafael measuring over two inches of rainfall and napa had a little over an inch, and hayward we had over an inch of rainfall there. just a little west in san josé, some of our valleys had rainfall totals anywhere from half an inch of rain to about three quarters of an inch of rain and more for the hills. we are seeing the storm system

winding down, but there are a couple lingering showers that will move through for the next couple of hours. we are also seeing all of the rain, the thunderstorms as well as the low elevation snow continuing to move away. it's still going to be a chilly day. we are going to see high temperatures reach the upper 50s and 60 degrees for san josé, and that's the one or two spots -- maybe fairfield reaching 62 degrees, and most in the 50s for today. tomorrow morning, another chilly one as our morning temperatures start at 46 in san mateo. long-range forecast, we're still seeing scattered showers in the forecast. not a total washout but looks like it's looking a little drier, but also as we look out at the extended forecast to see when we will be warming up, may not be until next weekend for spots like san josé. so once again, spotty showers, mainly in the north bay for the

weekend and sunshine. san francisco, showers this morning but we are looking cold and also clear for the weekend. now, let's turn to our climate in crisis. we look at the future of clean energy generation, and in california we just have taken the first step in creating an off-shore wind farm with five energy companies just winning the bid to lease 583 square miles off the coast of humboldt county as well as near moreau bay. this illustration shows you where we are seeing the wind farms that are going to be developed as well as the three types of floating wind turn tur bines. >> net zero by 2050, so we have

a long way to go because fossil fuel is still in the electricity production, but at the other hand we can have these productions up fairly quickly. by 2030, if we meet the goal that the administration has said, we can have 7% more electricity coming from offshore winds, and that's a significant contribution when you counter it with the other sources of the sustainable electricity that will be developed. >> construction is five to six years away to start building hundreds of offshore wind turbines. go to nbcbayarea.com to see more. there's an ongoing case against an east bay school supervisor attempting to engage
