mostly low to mid-40s for the start of this thursday morning, which is little warmer compared to what we have seen recently. before we get to the afternoon, your morning commute, you will have to blast the heat for a few minutes as you are on the way to work. a mix of sun and clouds today. you probably will need sunglasses today. concord reaching 66 degrees. 68 in morgan hill. 64 in santa rosa. we will talk about the weekend coming up. mike, you are looking at the golden gate bridge. >> yeah, it looks like the shot is frozen. from time to time you will see lights blinking, so it's not frozen. traffic is not coming down out of the tunnel. traffic breaks in both directions, and i think they are clearing the overnight roadwork through the one area right here north of the golden gate bridge. i will let you know if there is anything unusual going on.

we don't usually catch that much inactivity across the golden gate bridge. the rest of the bay shows green sensors and that's great. a smooth flow of traffic also with the crew blocking 680 through sunol still. back to you. >> thank you. a judge in the east bay could be sidelined from hearing any criminal cases. >> bob redell joins us now. the alameda county district attorney is making an usual case to disqualify the judge by any cases in her office. >> yeah, pamela price, she wants to bar judge mark mccannon from hearing any criminal cases brought forth by her office, because in her words he overstepped his boundaries as a judicial officer when he rejected a plea deal price brokered with a man accused of a triple murder. the judge said the jury should

decide the man's fate. d.a. price released a statement on youtube and said judge mark mccannon overstepped his boundaries judicial officer. she reminded her viewers that a judge is supposed to be, quote, an impartial referee. >> because of his inappropriate comments and conduct on two separate occasions, my office will file a motion to disqualify him from hearing any criminal cases being prosecuted by our office. >> to issue a blanket challenge against a judge is something that is highly irregular and it also calls into constitution questions of separation of powers. >> that was legal analyst, steven clark. he said it's common for judges to be taken off single cases, but all cases, that's unusual. clark points out that d.a. price has the right to take judge

fear and are pushing for legislation that will protect schools from gun violence. from california to massachusetts, students walked out of school taking a stance against gun violence. >> because school shootings are terrible and people shouldn't have to be scared of going to school every day. >> i am just scared to think that at any moment somebody could enter our building with bad intentions and shoot class members. >> gun violence is happening all around and we want to do our part. >> those in our country have failed us by letting this happen so many times over and over. >> the nationwide protests come nearly a week and a half after a school shooting in tennessee. three children and three adults died. in a separate demonstration, crowds took to the tennessee house floor led by three democrats. today statehouse republicans

will vote on whether to expel the lawmakers from the general assembly. >> because we went to the house floor to speak up and hear the voices of our constituents -- >> if we are smart, we are going to prevent the guns from ever getting to the schoolhouse door. >> legislators agree on some measures, such as preventing people who are a threat to themselves and others from gaining access to weapons. >> to the degree that we can do that, protecting the constitutional rights of our people at the same time. >> students say it's time to do something about gun violence, but from capitol hill to state capitols, the political battle over the issue continues to be contentious. when it comes to today's vote in tennessee, more than 250 legislators from across the country are condemning the proposed expulsion of the three

democrats. >> seeing that young generation step up. >> uh-huh. they are our future. thank you for the latest, brie. the third and last suspect connected to a shooting death in the east bay is now in custody, but it happened after a police standoff. authorities yesterday arrested a man hiding out in an apartment in modesto. he's accused of killing a store clerk in pittsburg on march 2nd. this is video of the store where the murder happened. it started when one of the two suspects got into an argument with a store employee. santa clara considering suing the 49ers claiming the team has not given them adequate information to prepare for the 2026 fifa world cup. fifa announced last yearly levi

stadium would be one of the venues. the 49ers are also hoping to host super bowl lx, the same year. the chief says he's worried it would strain the department. the city, the 49ers and the bay area host committee for the world cup will meet later this month. efforts to create a starbucks union in the south bay getting a big push. today a congressman is meeting with workers in sunnyvale. those workers are expected to meet later in the month to unionize. he has spoken out against starbucks practices, particularly in response to reports that the company allegedly retaliated against unions. as we look out in san josé, we are getting started this thursday and it's dark and early

and cold out there. kari hall, what about the warm-up today? >> a few more degrees. that's the trend all week long, coming up a couple degrees, and each day feeling a little more comfortable. as you are heading out the door in san rafael, most of our temperatures have been in the mid-40s. we also have kids on spring break in a lot of school districts in the bay area. we are checking out livermore, in the upper 40s at 9:00, and upper 50s at noon. you might want to wait until this afternoon before heading out there, because it will be 66 degrees later today. novato reaching 64 degrees. we will talk about rain in tomorrow's forecast coming up in a few minutes. mike has a look at where you can find slightly lower gas prices? >> yeah, i skipped the lowest,

because i spoke about them earlier in the week. on redwood highway, 4.19 a gallon. same price point at many areas there. the south bay, cupertino, 4.09. 3.85 in pleasanton. we have a smooth drive, green sensors for the most part. no traffic across the golden gate bridge. things backed up as they cleared the crews and now we have traffic reinstated across the span. that's what we expected to see, all the headlights heading south back in order. today is national library day. next on "today in the bay," how one local group is promoting early literacy among kids. and then aestaurant closed

san mateo reaching 62 degrees. as we go into the day tomorrow it will be a little lower as we start to see the rain chances going up. as the rain clears on saturday, especially during the afternoon, highs in the 60s and lows 70s. in the north bay, most of us will see the rain tomorrow morning and then it tapers off as we go into late morning and into the afternoon. going into saturday with a mostly cloudy sky to start, and then clearing throughout the day. this is not a significant system. it will bring us anywhere from a few 0.01 of an inch of rain for the south bay, and an inch of rain for san francisco and the coastline, and higher for the northbound. once we get beyond the system we will see more storm systems coming in early next week, especially by monday for the north bay, and then by wednesday with scattered showers and

after losing one of their own. an outpouring of messages and the investigation into his death. and then the steps being taken over the concerns about the refinery. i am marcus washington. >> i am laura garcia. let's look at the forecast. kari hall is tracking what you can expect. how are the temperatures? >> it's a cool start but not a bad day, warming up nicely with temperatures in the low 40s right now and heading into the mid and upper 60s for later this afternoon. as you are stepping out the door for work, you do, indeed, need a nice, warm jacket for the morning and maybe even leave the sunglasses at home, because we will see the sun peeking out from behind the clouds as we reach into the mid-60s in much of the east bay.

upper 60s for the south bay, and we will talk about rain arriving tomorrow. that's in the forecast in a few minutes. mike says it's a smooth drive across the bay? >> yeah, i love this shot because you can see the bridge moving smoothly, and the water below, and calm winds and water over here, so a smooth drive above, and under the water, bart has no delays either. there's an incident in oakland and i will check on that. we have early slowing on schedule for san josé just before where it says san josé, the northbound 101 typically sees slowing there. fremont, the headlights heading towards the south bay. and that's traveling up to the dumbarton bridge with the taillights. all lanes have reopened on the bay bridge after a deadly overnight crash. it happened just after 2:00 a.m. when the driver of a sedan crashed in the back of a semitruck ahead of the toll

plaza in the eastbound lanes. the driver died at the scene. authorities are investigating what led up to that crash. in san francisco the violent murder of a well-known tech executive is adding urgency to the conversation about crime, especially as there's no suspect in custody. >> we have more on the high profile voices weighing in on this, kris. >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. a lot of people have felt unsafe in the city at times and during different times of the day, but with this murder that was seemingly so random, a lot of folks are calling for greater change. bob lee, as you likely know by now, founder of cash app was violently stabbed to death around 2:30 on tuesday morning in the embarcadero. no suspect is in custody. while the murder shocked his family and friends, it's not entirely surprising to people that live here in the city.

the murder rate is up in recent years, and so are the rates of robberies and assaults and homelessness is skyrocketing. brooke jenkins said crime fight something heading in the right direction but will take time. >> we will not correct a problem overnight that took years to cause, so i think, you know, as i have asked the public for is patience to get to the place we need to, but we are working around the clock to make sure we are making san francisco safer and we are going into the courtrooms advocating for public safety. >> there's no place for this kind of violent crime against anyone in our city. our investigators are working tirelessly to make an arrest as we try to do on every homicide that occurs in our city.

pajaro community after the flooding. the health impact of recent incident at a refinery is in the spotlight again today. they are discussing the aftermath of the incident which saw the refinery release 20 tons of toxic metals into martinez on thanksgiving day. the committee met last night to discuss the investigation. >> i am happy they are looking into it, and i am interested to see how fast they will come up with the soil samples. >> after the lasts in department, health officials were so worried they asked people not to eat fruits or vegetables grown in their backyards. the committee is now waiting on

soil samples to understand the extent of that impact. 5:36 right now. taking a live look out at san francisco by the bay bridge this morning. looking for tranquility? the san francisco zoo is offering another way to reach that zen. a special yoga class with the animals, calling it zen at the zoo. the first class will happen on april 29th. there will be two other classes, one in july and one in october. the event will focus on yoga that brings together breathing and body movements. the ticket does include admission for the zoo. after you get your yoga on with the gorillas, you can go and enjoy all the sights there. i don't know if i have seen a giraffe in a downward dog, though. >> that would be cool and fun to do with the kids, absolutely. there's a lot going on this

weekend, and i know a lot of people have good friday off and you may want to get your weekend started early. let's get a look at the forecast. we have the sharks game happening this evening at 7:30. it's going to be 62 degrees. a little breeze, but overall it will be a nice and quiet evening across the bay area. we are also getting ready for rain and that may have an impact on the home opener tomorrow. we will be watching the rain chances very closely, and most of the rain looks to fall at oracle park early in the day, and then the later we get into the afternoon, the rain chances back off but we will be left with clouds. we also have the cherry blossom festival and parade happening in san francisco on saturday. we are going to have a mostly cloudy day and temperatures reaching into the upper 50s, and maybe a little more comfortable for the day. if you are going to the tahoe area for the weekend, off and on rain showers and changing to snow on friday, but the rest of the weekend is looking nice with a mostly sunny sky for saturday

and sunday. mike, you have been tracking a couple issues on the roads? >> yeah, over here, we have a crash -- wow, now, ben, he found it. north of the coliseum, this is the over crossing right here and we have this crash. looks like everything is over to the shoulder. there were reports of an overturned vehicle, and doesn't look like a major crash scene. we can see the slowing. you can see it on the sensors as well. northbound approaching north of 98 is where you start tapping the brakes. the scene is mostly off to the shoulder, but it's a distraction and it's just past high street. a little build before the bay bridge toll plaza and the approach to the metering lights. we know there will be slowing ahead of 92 as we have seen all week for the repair of the sinkhole. back to you. >> thank you. governor newsom accelerating

several bay area cities could see new housing going up quicker than usual, trying to help those make it in the bay. newsom announced 11 more jurisdictions will receive a pro housing designation, and that means the areas will be eligible for more state resources to speed up the production of housing. bay area cities on the latest list include emeryville and redwood city. other areas would be oakland and parts of sacramento. 5:43 right now. president biden will have a challenger for the democratic nomination for president next year. this is interesting. >> yes, scott mcgrew joining us now. scott, a familiar name but a long shot here. >> yeah, a long shot. robert kennedy jr., son of bobby kennedy. the kennedy name, of course, part of american royalty, but kennedy himself not much of a contender, and he has run for

political office and most guys know him as a guy that fights against vaccines and promotes conspiracy theories. we do expect biden to run for a second term, and biden accomplishing a lot by keeping silent. trump used to criticize biden for hiding in his basement during the last campaign, but it worked. former vice president, mike pence, meantime, says he will not appeal a decision forcing him to testify to a grand jury about donald trump. pence says the protections offered by a judge that he doesn't have to talk about decisions he made as the president of the senate is protection enough. this is a huge blow for trump. trump had a rough week, the arrest and then a liberal not only won the race for wisconsin

supreme court there in the lower right, she pummeled her opponent. pence in the upper right said he will talk to a grand jury, and rupert will testify in the lawsuit against fox news. and then kevin mccarthy getting praise for his meeting with the president of taiwan at the reagan library in southern california. you can see reagan's air force one behind the two of them. the person that had the job before mccarthy, nancy pelosi, heaping praise on mccarthy as well. the only critics of this are the chinese, and mccarthy said, tough luck. >> there's no need for retaliation, and i am the speaker of the house, and there is no place china will be

count this morning. we have had a lot of pollen floating through the air. you are probably seeing the yellow coating on your vehicle and everything that is outside. it's a lot of grass pollen that is high as well as ash, alder and juniper. we are seeing the flowers and the blooms going on. it's going to be partly cloudy, and we are heading for the upper 50s at noon. it will turn mostly cloudy for today as we reach into the low 60s. we are getting ready for rain, and that's the reason why the clouds move in quite early. we are also going to possibly see some of the showers as early as this evening for the north bay. mostly during the overnight hours there. notice how the rain breaks apart as it moves into the rest of the bay area for late tomorrow morning, so for most of us the rain chances will be slight and the north bay will be the focus for the higher rainfall totals

with some models showing quarter inch or more for those areas. while you head down to san francisco and over towards oakland, it will be about quarter of an inch of rainfall, but much less for other spots. as we look at our 7-day forecast, we will see the april showers tomorrow clearing out for saturday. sunday is looking perfect for easter. then we will see temperatures going back down and feeling a little more like winter by the middle of next week. mike, you are tracking a crash on the oakland cam. >> yeah, next to the coliseum. northbound 880, this is the 66th avenue over cross. around 98th, you will see the brake tapping. four lanes are open passing the scene, but rightly you should slow as you approach the flashing lights because chp is out there and it sounds like even though the suv is on its side, somebody was outside of the suv from early on and it sounds like that could be the driver. we are not hearing about any injuries, and we are showing a
