unusually southern lebanon, and the wave of airstrikes across two regions to aim the militant groups that is responsible for the rocket barrage thursday. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says the country's leaders will pay the price for any retaliation, and that sparks fears for any conflict. most of the rockets were intercepted, but some got through, and yet more rockets were fired from gaza. the escalation began wednesday when the israeli forms stormed the mosque in jerusalem, the third holiest site and the images of the riots and police beating muslims across the holy world. israel says that the extremists barricaded themselves inside of the mosques and stockpiling rocks and fireworks.

great crowd out there. let's get right to your news much to tell you about a dramatic showdown overnight turned tennessee into a flash point in the national debate over gun violence. state republican lawmakers expelled two democrats for bringing their gun reform protest to the house floor and breaking chamber rules a third democrat was spared. nbc's priscilla thompson is in nashville for us with the latest on that. good morning >> reporter: savannah, good morning. those expulsions were decided after hours of debate on the floor. and demonstrations throughout the halls of the tennessee state capitol. overnight, we saw prominent national figuring weighing in, including president biden and former president barack obama, both condemning the actions of the tennessee state house. while republicans here say that race played no role in these decisions, the fact that two black lawmakers representatives justin jones and justin pearson were expelled while a white lawmaker gloria johnson was not. it is also causing controversy
