bay area, but all of this coming with some slightly cooler temperatures that will be roll ing in as we head into today. as we get a look like at san francisco, our temperature today heads for the upper 50s. oakland will reach 64 degrees. 64 in hayward. these numbers are what we should be for the middle of april with morgan hill up to 68 degrees today. so jumping about 10 or maybe even more today. we'll get a look at the rst of the week coming up in a few minutes. >> i was studying the camera because westbound tail lights over to the peninsula right around this area, there was some flashing lights. and stationary lights. these cleared. and no slowing, so that's good news for the commute i as cross 92. the other bridge is moving very smoothly. the issue is the fog across the

golden gate bridge will be an issue. not surprised, but it's there. a family is heartbroken as they grieve the death of their 5-year-old daughter who was shot and killed. >> this morning we are learning more about her and her sense less death from a woman she called aunty. >> reporter: i spoke with a woman named ashley. her mother is her best friend. it was a difficult conversation to have, but she wanted to highlight her life, a life that was taken from her not too far from here off 880. >> how do you go from celebrating a family member's birthday. >> it's a suffering no parent should have to go through. yet she was shot and killed on this freeway as she rode with her family on 880 and sat right beside her brother who is only 11 months younger. >> he's never going to be okay.

he's the one i'm worried about the most. >> reporter: she was like family to her. >> my first text was she was shot on the freeway and she's going to die. >> reporter: this little girl was supposed to turn 6 years old on april 21st. >> she would tell her mom, i want to be a doctor because i want to take care of my grandma. i want to take care of you when you get older. >> that was taken from her and instead they are raising funds and organizing a funeral service. >> she was a great kid. she loved life. everybody was her friend. she loved to laugh, smile and hang out with her family. >> reporter: investigators are trying to figure out if her killing is linked to another shooting that took place that same night in fremont. three people were taken into custody in connection to that shooting.

>> i want to express my deepest sympathy to the family. thoughts and prayers are with you. >> reporter: the mayor called the death a parent's worst nightmare. >> beyond increasing staffing for our police department, we need to give our officers the tools they need to enforce safety on our roadways. automatic license plate readers. a bicyclist is dead after a car crashed on the peninsula. this happened around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. that cyclist was hit and killed near historic house. now police say both the bike and the car were traveling in the northbound direction before that collision. the cycle u.s. a 37-year-old man from san francisco. a 22-year-old driver and another passenger in that car were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

also last night, a hit ask run in san jose landed another bicyclist in the hospital. police say the woman who was hit suffered life-threatening injuries, but is recovering well. this is near north 1st street and 880. some roads were closed for the investigation but have since reopened. a krar car crashed into a transformer last night alongside a building. the driver did not suffer serious injuies. the building was empty at the time. the cause of the crash is not clear. happening today berkley leaders meet to debate seed money to reimagine public safety policies. members are debating $100,000 for the design of a new police early intervention and risk management system. the goal is to better promote fair and impartial policing policies. meanwhile, this thursday, council members will hold a

closed door session to consider granting permanent status to the substitute's current interim police and fire chiefs. also happening today after opening for business a year ago, whole foods in san francisco is closing down. the store on 8th and market was supposed to be a flagship store, with us now rampant shoplifting and drug use are being blamed for its sudden closure. more police are needed to stop other stores from closing. >> reporter: sgl this whole foods opened just over a year ago. autoof concern for safety, the company says it's closing for the time being. >> this is something we sorely needed. now it's closed down. >> reporter: shoppers witnessed constant shoplifting. >> in front of everybody. it's nothing like people they can do. >> this is a real gut punch. >> district 6 supervisor matt

dorsey says recent months the grocery store revved its 250 hand baskets because they were used for shoplifting. this san francisco resident said the store sopped selling hard liquor because it was being stolen in large quantities. drug use in the bathroom was also a problem. >> due to drug use, you had to show a reseat before using a bathroom. there were steps along the way to hopefully try to improve the situation, but things didn't. >> reporter: in response to whole foods closure, supervisor dorsey announced plans for a charter amendment he's hoping to put forward in 2024. aiming to buld up san francisco's understaffed police force over the next five years. >> we have to get back to a fully staffed police department. i would argue that if we're going to have businesses like whole foods closing after a year, we can't afford not to solve this problem.

some upper 60s. it's still going to be nice today. not bad at all. we're taking a live look outside in ooek oakland as you get ready to head out. it's another mild morning as we're getting clouds rolling in. 55 degrees. we'll see the clouds linger through 8:00 to 9:00. after that, the sun starts peeking out. and the rest of the day is going to be nice and comfortable. but it will be windy. and if your going to be out this afternoon, we'll start to feel those winds picking up right at lunchtime. especially for the coastline and san francisco. out there today maybe on your way to the giants game, you do want to have that heads up that you do want to wear something that you're not worried about flying up or blowing away. it's going to be at about 25 miles per hour at noon. and also into the evening, those winds will get even stronger. so it's going to be a gusty day. that's definitely going to be

the case at oracle park. look at those wind gusts. nearly 30 miles per hour. and it will be mostly clear as we go into the evening. those temperatures will drop quickly. we're seeing our temperatures today drop about 10, even 13 degrees for a lot of spots. so we're looking at highs reaching 64 in fremont and hayward. in santa rosa, 68 degrees. and tomorrow is about the same. maybe even cooler in some areas. but very seasonal and spring like into the end of the week. so this is a coming in now mch much of the rain is falling apart. we're not seeing much more than patchy drizzle. going into the weekend we're dry. it's dry until next monday. but very windy today and tomorrow with highs in the 60s. and a very pleasant weekend ahead. highs in the low 70s we were looking at that trivalley

camera. >> we were both watching a traffic break as it happened. things have pushed off. this is eastbound. so opposite the main commute. folks heading away past there, there was a traffic break. for two minutes, all traffic was stopped. but those flashing lights are over on the shoulder. the right shoulder. all lanes are cleared this happened so quickly. you see it out of the pass that's standard. that's what we have. so keep that in mind. this should short out itself. we saw on the lye live camera things are moving once again. a nice drive from the south bay. the earlier flashing lights all cleared. it looks like that from the san mateo bridge. all the bridges are moving smoothly and qualmly.

the charing kiosks and spend $30 to $60 for your own portable power station. >> going from being a flexibility thing to now a security thing. >> reporter: here at san jose international airport where they have public tone chargers, they say they are aware of the risk and have consulted with cybersecurity experts to try to keep those chargers safe. so far, they haven't heard of any hacking incidents. scott budman, today in the bay. new this morning a southern california family are mourning the death of a man who contracted a flesh-eating back tier ya ya. relatives say that man chased his dog into a pond in san diego. it started with an open wound and grew from that to an infection on his arm, which he dlieed seeking medical treatment. the condition is rare and not contagious, but it can be deadly in about 20% of the cases.
