it's mostly cloudy out there. as we go into today, we'll see our temperatures slowly warming up. definitely not the same trend we had yesterday. and it's also going to be windy going into late morning into the afternoon. our temperatures reaching 64 degrees in mountain view and scott valley. 64 in fremont. 68 in concorde. and 66 in san jose. we'll talk about what's ahead. you were looking at the bay bridge. >> i'm look the at our shot because yesterday we had clouds drifting down and impeding our view. that's why they turned the metering lights on earlier. we're looking at the smooth drive. you can see the span of low clouds can. that maybe critical in when the metering lights starts. look at that across the north bay. no delays as that disabled

vehicle cleared. there was not a second one. but everything is clear in both directions. we still have that construction. the south bay, all at speed back to you. >> thank you very much. this morning the community of louisville is in mourning after a mass shooting at a local bank left five dead and eight others injured. here's the terrible statistic. according to the gun violence archive, this is the 146 mass shooting in the united states so far this year. we are starting to learn more about some of the victims. police are calling it a workplace violence. an employee opened fire where he worked. today's jay gray joins us live outside the scene of that mass sher. what are you learning? >> reporter: good morning.

louisville's mayor call this is a horrific tragedy, and unfortunately with the numbers you just talked about, it's a uniquely american tragedy dealing with shootings in this country more than the rest of the world combined. take a look behind me. this is where it happened. the windows and doors boarded up after witnesses say was an intense fire fight happening down here in downtown louisville overnight prayers and pain. >> gracious god, the news of this day has ripped our hearts and it has torn our souls. >> east main street. >> reporter: downtown louisville in seconds shifting to the scene of the latests mass shooting. let's be clear about what this was. this was an evil act of targeted violence. >> at least five killed.

who died from her wounds at the hospital last night. eight injured, including nick wilt, sworn in ten days before the attack. >> nick has come out of brain surgery and is in critical but stable condition. >> will part of the first wave arriving three minutes after the during an intense fire fight killing the 25-year-old suspect, identified as a bank employee. police and federal agents pulling evidence from the bank and suspect's home searching for any clue that may help them understand how and why the killing spree happened. as this grieving community searches for a way to deal with overwhelming loss. >> we will get through this. we'll get through this together. it's the only way. we'll march forward.

are black were expelled thursday in house votes that drew national attention to rieshl racial dynamics in tennessee politics. the pair, along with representative gloria johnson, led supporters in chants calling for gun control measures after a shooting at a nashville school killed six people including three 9-year-olds.mp the trio broke house rules and used a bull horn when they were not recognized to speak. johnson survived her expulsion vote, which she suggested had to do with the tact that she is white. jones had this to say on the tennessee house floor following yesterday's decision to reinstate him. >> it represents a point that it comes a time to come back here.

>> nashville's council voted to appoint him as an interim representative by a unanimous vote. he will hold the seat into a special election can be held. jones is expected to run for that seat. ahead of his reinstatement the chapter of the naacp issued a statement, which reads in part, the oakland branch is outraged that tennessee's speaker of the house called jones' peaceful protest unacceptable and a violation of house rules. now those in oakland who knew jones are not surprised by his efforts to urge the passage of stricter gun control measures in the wake of yet another school shooting. meanwhile, it's unclear whether the other expelled tennessee representative justin pearson will be reinstated. we'll learn more about that. there is expected to be a vote to fill that seat or the interim seat tomorrow. live in washington, brie jackson today in the bay. >> all eyes will be on that, especially in tennessee.

thank you. 5:0. happening today, a recently opened san francisco whole foods store suddenly closes indefinitely due to concerns. it's the idea of this becoming a flagship store. it's now being closed over rampant shop lufting and the alleged use of drugs in the restrooms by store visitors. mid-market district supervisor calls this latest sign police need to be better staffed. >> we have to get back to a fully staffed police department. i would argue if we're going to have businesses like whole foods closing after a year, we can't afford not to solve this problem. >> the mayor's office echoed the comments calling for more police staffing. all employees are being stores. right now there's no indication when or if that store may reopen. oakland leaders take the first steps to end the long-time

pandemic-related eviction protections. council members debate a plan to gradually phase out the moratorium. a full vote may happen as soon as next week. if approved, it may end by september. some cities and counties bans have already expired. ahead of the hearing, people will rally to support what they call a responsiblened to the ban. they will happen at 1:00 p.m. on harrison street outside of the offices of one of the city's larger landlords. in just a few hours, the water board of directors will review the recommendations to relax the water conservation mandate. for the first time in three years, drought conditions are gone thanks to this year's string of storms. the meeting is scheduled for 1:00 this afternoon. 5:09. as we take a live look out, this is san francisco. you can see right there the lens has a little water on it. a few sprinkles out there. what do we expect from this weather? >> we have such warm weather

yesterday. today we're transitioning over to some milder weather. and in between, we have gusty winds and some drizzle to start out. right now, it's a mild morning. mid-to uper 50s as you step out the door. the winds will continue to increase coming in from the west and northwest. look at our noon wind speeds in miles per hour. it's 20 to 30 miles per hour, even getting higher in san francisco and near the coastline. it's going to be a gusty day. our temperatures are coming down. look at our first pitch temperature at oracle park. only 56 degrees. we'll feel the cool temperatures near the coast ask also about a 10 to 13 degree drop in temperatures inland as well. i'll have more on that in a few minutes. you were starting with a report in fremont. >> a live look at the camera view of 880. looking nice over there. the a arkway, some of the signs up there. similar signs iconic heading down toward mission. i called up fremont.

we get a lot of information about inflation this week. the consumer price index will show what we're paying for all kinds of goods and services. that's due out tomorrow. ask then the producer price index the next day on thursday. the perceived value of bitcoin jumped 6% in the last day. crossing 30 $30,000 for the first time since last summer. it's about double the value since the beginning of the year. up to other crypto currencies up as well. the value of our homes meantime falling we have seen several reports on that. bank of the west predicts home prices statewide here in california will fall 7.5% this year, another 2.5% next year. and all this comes as layoffs hit northern california particularly hard. unemployment in california 4.3% higher than the narchlg average there's one thing propping up

prices. people who own houses now are not that willing to sell them. not just because prices are falling, but because if they move, they'd likely have to give up a low interest rate, 2 or 3% on their mortgage, for current mortgage rates. here's bank of the west's chief economist. >> we haven't built enough homes and people have locked in low mortgage rates and are not interested in moving. a lot of people are locked in place in their housing. so there's still very low inventoies on the market, unless you get a lot of job loss and layoffs, much higher unemployment, the housing market looks better than it did a year or two ago. >> reporter: speaking of layoffs, silicon valley congresswoman and others are asking immigration to increase the amount of time laid off visa holders have to find a new job.

remember, if you're here on a special work visa and there are tens of thousands of people in silicon valley who are and you lose your job, you have to go home after 60 days. that means uprooting your family, selling your house, even if you had the money to stay, even if your spouse had a job, you have to go. and they are saying let's extend that out. give people more time to find another job n which they can use that specialized work visa. >> possibly get through this period we're in. thank you. 5:17 this morning. for those trying to make it in the bay, rising inflation rates continue to make sticking to a grocery budget nearly impossible. 80% say rising inflation has made it more costly for them to buy groceries. and 39% of americans say they are struggling to afford enough food for the household. there are some things that you can do to save. so experts say you should minimize your expenses by

64 in oakland. and 64 in san francisco. tomorrow it's about the same. maybe even bringing it down a couple degrees in san jose. looking at a high of 64 degrees. 66 in napa. it's about the same on thursday as well. maybe even just a touch warmer in some spots. but what's happening is we have the cold front that's coming through, burr the rain is really trying up as it approaches the bay area. so we're just looking at some drizzle this morning. and then as we head into the weekend, dry weather continues. we may see the north bay getting in so on some rain monday and tuesday. we'll be watching out for that. take a look at our temperature trend. upper 60s today. mid-60s tomorrow. a little cooler. then you can see it coming back up. we're in for a pleasant weekend with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. and we'll also see the temperatures dipping again next week. so we're still kind of going

ing. he asked our team to step in. >> good morning. robbie in fremont was flying united home from london via washington. he checked three bags at customs in washington he claimed his bags and rechecked them to sfo. how many arrived? zero. he says he filed a claim with united. it sent him a note saying his bags were in transit and would be delivered to his home. two bags arrived, one still missing. they acceptability no status updates for four weeks. the wait wm contacted us. we called united. he then admitted his bag was missing and paid hymn $1246 for the loss. they did not respond to our request for a statement. robbie said i am convinced that without your intervention, i would still be on hold with united airlines and getting nowhere. generally when your bag is missing for 21 days, it's considered permanently lost. then the federal government

morning still appears to be wide open in the weekend shooting on interstate 880 that killed a 5-year-old girl. >> we're still learning more about the young victim as family and friends grieved this senseless tragedy. what have you been able to learn? >> reporter: good morning. it's trly a senseless tragedy. police are still searching for the suspect involved in the deading shooting that took the life of a 5-year-old. we're hearing from a close family frent. friend. this victim is a 5-year-old. she was shot ask killed over the as she was riding in the car with her family. they were coming back are from a party heading back home that night when it all took place. lis are trying to determine if this is connected to another shooting in the area. that took place around the same time. we got a chance to speak with a mom's best friend. the family is grieving. they are heartbroken by all of this.

who grabbed and groped a woman on campus. it happened at 12:30 this morning. the woman fought back and got away. investigators say the latest incident maybe related to two other sexual battery cases yesterday. anyone with information should call uc police. a bicyclist is dead after a car crash on the peninsula. this happened around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. that cyclist was hit and killed in redwood city. this is near the historic house. both the bike and that car traveling the northbound direction before the collision. cyclist a 37-year-old. the 22-year-old driver and another passenger in that1ñ car were taken to the hospital as a precaution. that collision happened around 9:00 last night.
