lee and the suspect. plus, shots fired at a carjacking suspect dead. the investigation in the east bay at this hour. and fighting wildfires with space technology. the way nasa is tracking fires without risking lives. this is "today in the bay." good friday morning to you. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. i want to get you headed out the door -- if that's where you're going -- with a look at what we can expect from the forecast and the weekend. >> it's going to be a great weekend. we're starting out with cool temperatures around the bay area. once again, we're in the mid-40s, even the upper 40s right now in hayward. 49 degrees in oakland. 47 in san francisco. as you're heading to work in pleasant hill, it's in the mid-40s for the next few hours and then we start to warm up. it's going to be just slightly warmer compared to yesterday.

reaching 68 degrees in san jose, 66 in dublin. we'll talk about that weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, kari. in a matter of hours, the suspect accused in the deadly stabbing of bob lee will face a judge. >> in a stunning twist, it turns out the accused is in tech himself. we have all the developments and reaction from city leaders. >> reporter: more than a week since this exclusive surveillance video obtained by the daily mail caught bob lee stumbling for help, police have made an arrest. 38-year-old nima momemi is charged with murder. momemi and lee knew each other. a friend is shocked. >> always in a good mood and happy. that's why i think it's surprising that it was a friend that killed him. that was the last person he was with. in my mind, i asked, should we be looking into this guy?

>> reporter: lee's friend learned through text. >> members of the san francisco police department's investigations bureau and tactical unit served an order. >> reporter: police executed to search warrants. they won't say yet what happened between lee and momemi that fateful night. the pair were driving together downtown when a confrontation erupted and lee was stabbed. someone told nbc bay area news, they saw police recover a 5 to 6-inch knife. the district attorney is charging momemi with murder with an enhancement alleging that it was committed with a knife. >> this is very much an ongoing investigation and my job is to make sure that nothing is

compromised. >> we have other homicides that we work just as hard on. i understand and appreciate the interest in this case. that's not lost on any of us. but let's not forget that we have lost other lives in the city and there's work to be done on those cases as well. >> reporter: it's surreal he's gone. >> we were supposed to be hanging out this week in miami. it was weird. he got killed the day before i was heading out to miami. so who is the suspected killer? as we mentioned, like bob lee, he also is a bay area tech worker. jodi hernandez spoke with people who know momemi. she has more. >> i heard this bang, bang, bang, bang and i don't know what it was. it sounds like something hitting metal. >> reporter: she describes the sound she heard as police descended on the building where he lives as they arrested her

neighborhood nima momemi. >> he was a very nice guy. professional. great neighbor. absolutely shocking that he is accused of this crime. >> reporter: public relationships specialist has an office space right next door to momemi's unit. he said momemi gave him a tour of his place when singer moved into his new office last month. >> very typical san francisco technology office. there's a pool table in the middle, lots of technology equipment, a lot of wiring. a very fancy gourmet food in the kitchen. fancy upscale stereo system. >> reporter: he left some of his business cards behind. he founded a company called expand it. according to the company's website, a client-sentic i.t. outsourcing firm. >> he does cybersecurity and server work. he handed us a stack of his cards when we first met and said if you need i.t. help, give us a call. >> very jovial, down to earth

kind of person. >> reporter: he worked with momemi a few years back. a start-up company he worked for at the time hired the i.t. specialist to set up their network. he said he never saw any red flags. >> every interaction that i had with him, it was always very cordial. never anything untoward on any -- any signs of any anger or anything of that nature. >> reporter: while police say nima momemi and his alleged victim tech executive bob lee knew each other, the nature of their relationship is still unknown. adding to the mystery, a woman was knocking on doors on april 3rd just one night before the murder. the woman was roaming around the hallways and screaming his name.

the cameras caught the behavior. >> they looked at security footage and there was a woman wandering around calling his name and knocking on the wrong door to get entrance into his space. >> reporter: jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >> you're going to continue the follow the story closely. head to our website, click bob lee, you'll find it right there at the top of our home page. this morning police are confirming a carjacking led to an officer-involved shooting. one suspect is dead. a second is in custody. about 3:20 yesterday afternoon they were alerted by their cameras that a carjacked vehicle came to the city on mallory avenue. the car was found on cedar boulevard and conducted a high-risk stop. the officer-involved shooting

occurred at the time. one suspect died. the second was taken to the hospital. he's been released and is now in custody. what's not clear is if that second suspect was shot or if the suspects fired at police. investigators say several officers were involved. >> our understanding, not all shooters have been interviewed at this time. but it's our understanding that there are officers involved from both areas. >> police confirm a weapon was recovered at the scene. no officers or bystanders were hurt. nasa is using space-age technology to fight fires. the agency wants to put high-tech eyes in the sky to better track the way fires move. researchers at nasa research center are using sub orbital assets to conduct that study. it includes unmanned planes used to care firefighting gear. project leaders say it includes drones capable of moving cameras without risking lives.

wall street is set to open lower after the markets rallied yesterday following data showing the pace of inflation is slowing. producer prices fell in march boosting hopes the federal reserve is seeing enough evidence of ending its campaign of interest rates hikes in the future. the s&p gaining more than 1% and the nasdaq 2%. now, retail sales, import prices, industrial production, and consumer sentiment, plus earning season kicks off with results from jp morgan chase, citigroup, wells fargo and united health. twitter is increasing the tweet limit to $10,000 characters. that's up from the 4,000 character limit the platform expanded to just in february. twitter also announced it supports bold and italics. twitter blue is $8 a month for

including the amazing weather. here's a look right now as we're getting started in san rafael. it is all quiet and we're starting out with cool temperatures. it's in the low 40s right now. the wind is calm and we have more sunshine in the forecast for today. as we go from low 40s to low 50s at 10:00, 56 degrees at 11:00, yeah, you'll need the jacket for the start of the day, but the rest of the day is going to be comfortable with hayward reaching 64 degrees, 68 in martinez. all of these temperatures, very seasonal for this time of year. and we'll see it gets slightly warmer in some of our inland areas for tomorrow. reaching 73 in morgan hill. livermore, 69 degrees. napa reaching 68 degrees and upper 50s in san francisco. heading into sunday, it's going to be just a touch cooler in some spots. mountain view reaching 66 degrees. still pretty nice for everything going on, including the cherry

blossom festival and parade. we're going to be out there. so you'll want to check him out for the parade. it's going to be 56 degrees and we're headed for 58 degrees, maybe a little bit breezy too. but you need the sunglasses, sunscreen and a nice warm jacket. next week, we're getting ready for slight rain chances especially for the north bay and cooler temperatures coming in. our north bay areas could see light showers but it looks like some very light drizzle. it doesn't look like a lot of measurable rain and we're also going to see a significant change in how it feels out there. we're going from upper 60s for the weekend, only to about 58 degrees for a high temperature on tuesday. but look at the rebound after that. we're talking about highs in the low to mid-70s again for next weekend. so nice weekends ahead. just slight chances of rain for monday and tuesday. and we're going to enjoy this weekend that's going to be nice
