right now at 5:00, facing a judge. the man accused of killing tech executive bob lee will be in court in a matter of hours. the new details coming to light about the relationship between lee and the suspect. also behind bars, a live report from washington on the 21-year-old air national guard member accused of linking those highly classified documents. and the question top lawmakers are asking, how did it take months to find him? combating our climate in crisis. the event ahead of earth day aimed at making the bay area a cleaner place and how you can take part. this is "today in the bay."

it is friday and a good morning to you. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. let's start out with a look at that friday forecast. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect. it doesn't really matter because it's friday. >> it's friday. whatever is happening outside will be happening. but we're going to have some beautiful weather throughout the weekend as we take a live look outside in san jose. cool mornings and mild afternoons are on the way and we're at 44 degrees right now. as we go into late morning into the rest of today, we do start to warm up and it will feel much nicer later this afternoon as we head for the upper 60s in the southbound, some mid-60s for the inner bay. san mateo reaching 62 today. and upper 60s from novato. we have a look at a smooth-flowing traffic from the golden gate bridge to the san

rafael bridge. not a lot happening yet. let's keep it that way. we'll take a look at what's going on once again as we track what's happening with our friday light commute coming up in just a few minutes. >> thank you, kari. in just a few hours, the suspect accused of the murder of tech executive bob lee is expected to appear in court. >> "today in the bay's" thom jensen joins us from our newsroom. a lot of people are wondering why the suspect, who was a friend, would stab lee. >> the motive is still a mystery to everybody was police and prosecutors at this point, apparently. it's something we might learn later today in court documents when 38-year-old nima momemi is arraigned possibly at 9:00 a.m. that's when the criminal court calendar is normally. a lesser known tech consultant momemi was and he was one of the last people known to have seen

bob lee before his stabbing ten days ago. investigators say he was arrested yesterday at his emeryville home. police found lee with stab wounds and he died later on a hospital. a longtime friend says it only makes sense that police would eventually talk to momemi because friends saw the two together just hours earlier. >> that was the last person he was with. in my mind, i asked, well, shouldn't be people looking into this guy? >> police also would not say whether they found the murder weapon. but they saw police recover a knife near the murder scene. that's another thing that we could learn about in court records today. but we don't know if those documents are going to have a lot of details. laura and marcus, stay tuned. >> all right, will do. thank you very much, tom. we have some details for you now. neighbors in the emeryville building where the suspect was arrested are stunned by this latest development. >> i heard this bang, bang,

bang, bang, and i don't know what it was. it sounds like something hitting metal. >> that is what one neighborhood described what she heard yesterday. she calls the suspect nima momemi polite and friendly as does another neighbor. singer recently moved into the space next door to momemi's unit and momemi gave him a tour. >> very typical san francisco technology office. there's a big pool table in the middle, lots of technology equipment, a lot of wiring. a very fancy gourmet food in the kitchen. there's fancy upscale stereo system. >> neighbors also tell us about another mystery. they say early in the morning the night before the murder, they could hear a woman knocking on doors screaming something that sounded like the suspect's first name. but it's not clear if there's any connection. we're going to continue to follow this story closely as it

develops. we're posting all of the updates in one place. head to our website and click bob lee. it's right there at the top of our home page. antioch's chief of police releasing a new statement responding to the revelations surrounding racist text exchanges by officers. those texts are part of a wide-ranging ongoing investigation by the fbi. the department says the officers involved have been off the streets for some time. but the texts include racist language and other frank comments about the use of police force. last night chief of police steve ford released a statement saying in part, i condemn in the strongest possible terms the racially abhorrent content and incomprehensible behavior being attributed to the members of the antioch police department. i have taken immediate action to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted and the community is not exposed to any individuals under question from this reporting.

the prosecutors are investigating as well. they released a redacted report covering those controversial text messages. the man suspected of leaking classified documents on the internet will appear in federal court later this morning. this comes less than 24 hours after he was taken into custody. brie jackson joins us live from washington and the suspect is a service member. >> good morning. and that came as a surprise to many people. the fbi traced the leak to a low-ranking member of the air national guard. we're told that the suspect enlisted just 3 1/2 years ago. >> reporter: the suspected leaker of highly classified documents in custody after heavily armed agents swarmed his massachusetts home. >> the justice department arrested jack douglas teixeira in connection with an investigation into alleged unauthorized removal, transmission, and retention of classified national defense

information. >> reporter: the justice department says the 21-year-old air national guardsman worked in the intelligence wing of the guard. it the leak exposed important documents including intel about key u.s. allies and russia's war against ukraine. military officials say they have measures in place to safeguard such sensitive government secrets. >> this was a deliberate criminal act, a violation of those guidelines. >> reporter: lawmakers say they plan to examine why this happened and how to prevent future alex. >> this is very dangerous. when you hear stories like this, of someone who is doing this for a grantizement for the purpose of promoting themselves, kids and un -- are looking this almost as a game itself. >> reporter: the defense department is assessing the scale and scope of the leak. president biden appeared to downplay it. >> i'm not concerned about the -- i'm concerned that it

happened. but there's nothing contemporaneous that i'm aware of that is of great consequence. >> the criminal investigation is ongoing. and this case is raising serious questions about who has access to government secrets. while there are measures in place, they will further tighten access guidelines if needed. laura? >> all right. such an interesting case to follow. thanks for the latest. maybe you only work a four-day week this week and you wonder, okay, what do i do to keep myself busy today. we have an idea for you. how about volunteering? volunteers will clean and restore the gardens. pg&e is leading an effort ahead of next week's earth day. that's going to be next weekend. >> good. we can all, you know, make a difference. go out, make it beautiful. perfect day to go out and do

something like that. >> it's going to be an amazing weekend around the bay area. let's take a look at the forecast. we're going to continue to see some sunshine over the next several days and temperatures warming up as we check out that forecast. low 60s for today. and reaching 64 degrees tomorrow. we're back to about the same on sunday with a breezy wind and also looking at some great outdoor weather. also looking at that hiking forecast because we're trying to look for the opportunities to enjoy the superblooms as well as how green all of the vegetation is right now. we will continue with sunshine for today. temperatures start out cool in the north bay and santa rosa will be at 44 degrees at 8:00. at 2:00, it's 66 degrees and 67 at 4:00 today. and around all of the bay area, cool near the coast, but definitely much milder for the inland areas. and a look at traffic. we are starting out with a look at the golden gate bridge that's flowing well.

also the richmond san rafael bridge. no cars right now. and then as we take a look at the sensors, it is all green. watching one spot coming into the bay area. we're seeing one accident on the pass and it's starting to slow down on isabelle going through 84, into that cut through. starting to slow down there. i'll have another update in a couple of minutes. >> i had to drive that way yesterday. there is a lot of construction over there. be careful. >> there you have it. april is financial literacy month. still ahead, the warning from financial advisers when it comes to using social media for advice. what you need to watch out for when you're scrolling through that feed. users on twitter run into trouble and ask themselves, is it broken or is it just twitter. and listen up dog lovers out there, that's pretty much everyone here, i want to tell

by e. jean carroll against donald trump. she accused him of rape. hoffman has made donations to organizations opposing trump in the past. pbs says it will quit twitter. the public broadcasters have objected. npr quit twitter earlier this week. npr pointed out, twitter doesn't drive much traffic to its shows or websites. accounting for only 2% of that traffic. some twitter users are reporting they cannot reply to tweets. seems to be isolated to certain more high-profile users. some wonder if musk is cutting off access, others think it's just a bug. musk fired many of the engineers that kept twitter running leading to the question many

have asked before, is it broken or just twitter? and when i got into the office today, i had a reminder on my calendar to pull up this article from exactly one year ago today. april 14th, 2022. bitcoin could hit $100,000 within a year. the crypto firm ceo predicts. it did not. it is much higher. i mean it's above 30,000. it had been pretty low. but not the hundred thousand. we'll see. >> interesting. >> i remember when it was 63,000. >> yeah -- really high. there was one point where it was like less than a dollar and that's when we should have all bought it. >> next time. >> thanks, scott. new this morning, april is financial literacy month and financial advisers say more and more people are going to social media for financial advice. >> one of the best financial advice you've ever received? >> invest in assets, not

liabilities. >> second question, what is the worst financial advice you've ever received. >> the way to build wealth is saving your money. >> the social media videos are really everywhere. but we spoke with an adviser who warns some messages can not only be dangerous but costly. and there's no guarantee it's creators are credible. anyone can claim to be a financial expert. but in reality, may have little or no knowledge of the subject matter. and since social media isn't regulated, there are no guidelines or rules. he said you should proceed with caution. >> i'm not saying that all financial advice that's available on tiktok is bad. but there are some concerning friends that we're seeing. and a lot of these trends center around schemes on getting rich quick and we both know that that's never a scheme or an idea or a concept that is successful.

still pretty windy. take a look at these winds. 21-mile-per-hour winds to start out the day and we're going to see that continue as we go into the afternoon. so temperatures going from 46 to 59 at 11:00. your lunchtime temperature will be 62 degrees. eventually make it into the upper 60s for today. we'll see in the north bay, highs reaching 68 degrees. mount view headed for 66 degrees. and about the say over to the tri-valley and down to the south county. upper 60s for today. even reaching the low 70s for tomorrow. it's going to be great for getting out in the garden, enjoying a hike and spending time with family outdoors. it's going to be so comfortable. and we continue those temperatures into sunday. looking ahead to see when we could possibly get a little bit of rain on those freshly planted gardens, well, it could be mostly in the north bay on monday with a slight chance of showers. but it's only looking like a few

spotty sprinkles. i'm putting some drizzle in the forecast as the cold front moves through. it's going to be starved for moisture. we're not expecting any significant rainfall. it's also going to be a clear weekend. if you're hitting the road and going to tahoe to see all of the fresh snow on the ground, it's still going to be cool out there for today. reaching into the low 50s for the weekend. we're going to have a beautiful weekend. comfortable temperatures. cool to start, but reaching into the upper 60s. and about 70 degrees tomorrow. and then next week, it's going to be significantly cooler. in fact, it's going to feel a little bit more like winter once that cold front comes through and we'll watch out for some slight rain chances. now as you head out on the roads, we're taking a look at the bay bridge. it is starting to pick up just a little bit. but it's still slowing and we're not seeing any major issues around the bay area. so watching that accident that's coming into the bay area on 580

afternoon they were alerted by safety camera that is a carjacked vehicle came into the city. officers found the car on cedar boulevard and conducted a high-risk stop. and that's when police say the officer-involved shooting occurred. one suspect died. the second was taken to the hospital. but he has been released and is now in custody. what's still not clear is if that second suspect was shot. investigators say several officers were involved. >> our understanding, not all shooters have been interviewed at this point. but it's our understanding that there are officer involved from both newark -- >> police confirm a weapon was recovered at the scene. no officers or bystanders were hurt. the dangers of fentanyl, the focus of a community meeting. leaders last night hosting a town hall meant to inform parents, the town's police school resource officer

organized that meeting. police say one particular concern involves recognizing fake medication laced with fentanyl. >> the pills are being marketed, traded, handed out. a kid says, i'm going to pop a xanax bar. this is what they think they're taking. in reality, it may not be a xanax bar. it may contain fentanyl. >> leaders focused on how young people are finding the drug and what parents should do if they happen to discover the drug in their home. san francisco's meals on wheels is on the move from one location to the other. the non-profit has new headquarters which you can see here in some photos. the new digs are located south of the hill. later today, leaders will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony. the warriors are nearly set to begin defense of their nba championship. >> you can call them commuters. this is the start of round one.

they're taking on the kings. for the first two guys, going to be playing in sacramento. pete is live for us outside of the chase center. why go there when you can have a viewing party at the best place in the nba. >> that's a good point. good morning to you. you can watch the game with the rest of the nation here at thrive city outside of the center. and that will be the case during the playoff run. let's hope it's another long one and they repeat as champions of the nba. they're only going to travel 87 miles to sacramento. it's much different than last year's first-round matchup when they took on the denver nuggets. there is some familiarity when it comes to the warriors playing the kings. the kings head coach is mike brown. they're a division opponent with -- let's be honest, the

and cool down into the evening. here closer to home in san francisco, we've got the cherry blossom festival and parade happening this weekend in japantown. we're going to be out there and enjoying the sunshine. it's going to be a little bit cool with mid to upper 50s. but then as we go into today, the wind calms down. it will feel nice out there. as we are also making plans hitting the road if you're going to coachella this weekend. it's going to reach 82 degrees for this afternoon. cool tonight. we're back into the upper 80s tomorrow and it's going to be really hot on sunday reaching 93 degrees. but if you're going to the sierra, want to enjoy some snow, it's going to reach 46 degrees. we have clear conditions getting there and also heading home with a high of 52 on saturday. dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s. and the sunshine continues in

sonoma valley. we have a lot of beautiful views around that area and we're going into the upper 60s for the next several days for those high temperatures. and our morning starts out in the lower 40s. you got to get to work this morning. here's a look at the san mateo bridge. we're seeing a smooth flow this morning. we're hoping that the friday light commute continues and so far it's been fairly quiet with a lot of green sensors around the bay area as we -- if anything is starting to slow. some of the longer commutes coming through the delta. we're seeing a couple of spots slowing down. there was one accident coming into livermore and that has slowed down things on 580. and we're also starting to see it slowing down coming through pleasanton, that cut through is slowing down a little bit. a closer look at the bridges. here are a couple of spots where people brake just a little bit.

right now at 5:42, as you're heading out in pleasant hill, our temperatures are in the mid-40s. it is all clear and we have sunshine in our forecast as it warms up today. we're headed for the mid to upper 60s. so it's going to be a great day. we'll take a look at our weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. and as you're heading out, let's get a look at the tri-valley drive times. it is starting to slow down on westbound 580. it is looking good for 680 and westbound 84 to i-680 takes about 11 minutes. a look at all of our drive times coming up. maybe the term free file means nothing to you. but it could save you a lot of money during tax season. taxpayer advocates are reminding everyone the irs offers a free tax prep service. it's called free file.

[ applause ] >> the president greeted at the irish legislature in dublin when he talked about a sustained peace established 25 years ago with a good friday agreement. that peace between the republic of ireland and northern ireland, the president visited both and they both did their best to welcome him. but journalists traveling with the president point out, the president is having so much fun in the republic of ireland that northern ireland has noticed.

the white house says the president's been briefed on the arrest of that 21-year-old air force reservist accused of leaking all those top secret tables, pictures and briefing reports about the war in ukraine. the president downplayed the importance of the intelligence. congress is talking about holding hearings, looking into a question many americans are asking, how does a 21-year-old low-rank reservist began access to america's secrets? that same reservist only gained access to beer a few months ago. the military has been here before. you recall private bradley manning who would later call herself chelsea manning gained access to a staggering amount of secrets while serving in the lowest and second-lowest rank in the military. he'll have his first court appearance in boston. we'll have the latest, including all of the reaction and fallout

temperatures in the low 40s at 6:00 and head for the mid to upper 60s for today as that great weather continues. it's been so pleasant and comfortable and it's been kind of breezy at times. we are expecting the winds to pick up near the coast and tomorrow it's reaching 59 in san francisco and half moon bay. compare that to the low 70s we'll have in san jose. and then as we go into sunday, it's about the same coming down a degree or two. very seasonal for this time of year. we'll see a cold front dropping in. that's going to bring in slight rain chances for the north bay. it doesn't look like any big storms on the horizon. as we've seen the trends, the rain dries up before it gets here. but the temperatures will change. santa rosa goes to 50s on tuesday. a little taste of winter. look at the rebound by next weekend reaching into the mid-70s. overall we are continuing with a mostly sunny weekend. cooler start to earlier next
