good morning. it is saturday, april 15th. 7:00 as we take a live look outside toward some clouds over san francisco from our emeryville camera on this saturday morning. thank you so much for starting your weekend with us. i'm kira klapper. cinthia pimentel joins us with a look at your microclimate forecast. looks a little chilly out there, but didn't feel too bad earlier this morning. >> yeah, it's actually that cloud cover, kira, that's helping us stay warmer out the door this morning. live look over san francisco. the cloud cover is popping up on satellite and radar. you can see the areas of gray coming in towards the coastline and trickling into

vallejo. the temperatures right now running a little warmer compared to 24 hours ago. 49 in san jose. up in the north bay, areas such as santa rosa and napa running 8 degrees warmer compared to 24 hours ago. stick with us. we have a lot to talk about. this warmest day of the weekend. we'll see more clouds as we go into day on sunday. showers running to the bay area. we've got the timeline in a few minutes. >> thanks. we begin with new revelations surrounding the brutal killing of cash app founder and tech titan bob lee. court documents are shedding light on what happened in the hours leading up to the deadly stabbing. those documents also reveal the suspect's sister was one of the very few people lee was with on the night he was killed. that sister also was at the center of some sort of disagreement between lee and his

alleged killer. "today in the bay's" gia vang has the story. >> reporter: nima momeni's family navigated a crowded hallway. cameras weren't allowed inside the courtroom, but momeni made heart gestures to his family, who gestured back. among them, his sister, who was in the center of a dispute between lee and momeni that night. it began april 3rd with drinking at an apartment. lee, and witness one was there. they go to a hotel room, where witness one claims to hear lee talking to momeni about his sister, assuring him nothing inappropriate happened. lee arrives at millennium tower where kazar lives, then momeni

and lee leave together. they get into the white bmw at millennium tower. cameras track then to the 400 block of main street. there, the prosecution claims momeni and lee get out of the car. minutes later, momeni lunges at lee, who was stabbed three times, one punctuing his heart. attorney jenkins calling this premedicated murder by momeni. >> this was a person who was in his vehicle with a kitchen knife. that's not something most of us carry around at all times with us. this was something that he intended to do. >> reporter: d.a. jenkins said momeni acquired a lawyer before the arrest. she asked the arraignment to be moved to the 25th when she was back in the country. he said momeni is not a flight risk. >> my client is a super nice person. his family loves him and supports him. there's so much more to this and

a much greater backstory than is disclosed in the government's pleadings. >> reporter: with the arraignment moved, kazar remained close to her husband, as they were taken away in a truck with blacked out plates. gia vang, "today in the bay." >> you can see those court documents on our website, nbcbayarea.com. just click on "bob lee" at the top of our homepage. in the east bay, allegations are growing against a police department embroiled in accusations of racism and homophobia. we are learning that, now, nearly half of antioch's police force is involved in the text chain fallout. as "today in the bay's" stephanie magallon reports, the contra costa office is calling for a halt in prosecutions involving the antioch police department, saying no one should be charged by a department, quote, so thoroughly riddled in

corruption. >> reporter: with every new racist text unearthed, an officer identified, the fear and outrage grows. >> it frightens the community to know that the people that are charged with protecting them, the people who are funded by their tax dollars, feel a certain way about them. are joking about committing violence against them. >> reporter: in a new letter to the contra costa county district attorney, publish defender mcdonald reveals there's now at least 45 antioch officers on text chains. they call them racist, homophobic and violent against black people. also, at least 16 of those officers are in leadership roles. >> the number of officers involved is so deeply concerning. it raises questions about how this went on for so long, who was complicit, what was the impact on all of, not just the cases, but the people who called for help? >> reporter: tonight, the council on american islamic

relations, san francisco bay area, condemned the recent revelations. its executive director says she's afraid to read the messages and the effect they'd have on her, messages like these exchanged during a stakeout for four murder suspects. officer texted, so many black people. officer jonathan adams replied, bro, they all look the same. he responded, tell me about it. i feel i'm at the sitting behind bars based on the testimony of these officers who are proven to be incredibly discredited, racist bigots acting under the law. >> reporter: from a letter from mcdonald, he request the d.a. dismiss all cases involving antioch pd, release their incarcerated clients and cease filing any cases. >> if anybody attempted to do real harm to the community, you

know, gets an opportunity to have their case dropped, that's on the hands of these officers. >> reporter: antiochpro tem says the latest reports are shocking to read, and there is a request for the mayor to bring an audit to the police department. that request will be heard tuesday during a special city council meeting. >> i've been getting a lot of calls. a lot of people would like to see every officer named and every in leadership who was aware leave the department immediately. >> reporter: stephanie magallon for "today in the bay." >> the police chief released a statement apologying and promising a thorough investigation. we reached out to the d.a. and public defender's office for comment, but it was after hours. we have not yet heard back. it does appear both entities are set to meet on monday to discuss this issue. in oakland, the mayor is the

latest victim of a car break-in. it happened thursday night while the mayor was attending a film screening at the grand lake theater. she was there to watch the new documentary, "steph curry underrated," at the opening night of the san francisco film festival. oakland police say they're investigating a number of car burglaries in the area that night. also in oakland, critics of the mayor today will gather to send a message. their anger has been simmering ever since the dismissal of the now former police chief, armstrong. his supporters will gather to share their grievances at 1:00 p.m. outside of light house charter school. now to a major break in the case of a freeway shooting that killed a 5-year-old girl from santa clara. three suspects already in custody for another crime are now being charged with the death of eliana. humberto, emmanuel and krista

were named in dublin. all three men are gang members. eliana's death likely was the result of mistaken identity. eliana and her family were driving south on 880 near the mission boulevard exit when the shooting happened. prosecutors say those three suspects believed her family's vehicle belonged to a rival gang member. a santa clara councilman is facing charges he lied while under the oath. in october, a civil grand jury was investigating the 49ers for trying to stack the city council with team-friendly members, including councilman anthony becker. before the jury planned to release its report, someone leaked it to the 49ers. that leak triggered a criminal grand jury investigation. prosecutors accuse becker of leaking that report and lying to the grand jury about leaking it while under oath. >> this is clearly a case of the coverup being worse than the crime. giving the 49ers an early peek

at this scathing report may have curried favor for anthony becker, but at the same time, when he got on the stand and lied about that, he created a very big criminal problem for himself. >> councilman becker did not respond to our request for comment. he is scheduled to be arraigned on monday. all right. we're going to turn now to the warriors waking up in sacramento for playoff game one against the kings tonight. steph, draymond, the whole team loaded up onto buses yesterday at chase center. without traffic, the roughly 90-mile drive is about 90 minutes from san francisco to sacramento. get this, one of our own viewers spotted what appeared to be the warriors buses driving across the bay bridge with a chp escort. the best of seven series tips off at 5:30tonight. you can catch pregame coverage on nbc sports bay area and nbc sports california starting at

cinthia pimentel says the clouds are keeping us warmer this morning. she'll have your microclimate forecast in a few minutes. first, we are learning san francisco state university has temporarily closed its lgbtq center over safety concerns. this follows a viral video of protests on campus. you might remember we told you about this last weekend. college swimmer ryan gaines spoke on campus after being invited by a conservative group. gaines supports banning transgender athletes from competing in sports. dozens of protesters you saw there showed up at her speaking event. gaines claims she was ambushed and physically hit by protesters as she attempted to leave the campus. video of the event, which does not show gaines being struck, has since gone viral. lgbtq center staff say it sparked intense harassment aimed at the campus group, leading to concerns about their safety. for now, the center is temporarily closed. the center says it did not

organize the protest against gaines. former president donald trump shared his thought on gun control at the national rifle association's annual conference yesterday. >> this is not a gun problem. this is a mental health problem. this is a social problem. this is a cultural problem. this is a spiritual problem. >> trump proposed giving teachers a tax credit to pay for concealed carry gun training. he blasted democrats, accusing them of standing in the way of common sense school safety measures. new this morning, april is financial literacy month, and financial advisers say more and more people are going to social media for financial advice. >> what is the best financial advice you've seen? >> invest in asset, not liabilities. >> second question, what is the worst financial advice you've ever received? >> the way to build wealth is saving your money. >> social media videos are

everywhere, but we spoke with a financial adviser who warns some messages cannot only be dangerous but costly. there's no guarantee the creators are credible. anyone can claim to be a financial expert, but, in reality, may have little to no knowledge of the subject matter. because social media is not regulated, there are no real guidelines nor rules. he says you should proceed with caution. >> i'm not saying that all financial advice that's available on tiktok is bad, but there are some really concerning trends that we're seeing. a lot of these trends center around schemes on getting rich quick. we both know that that's never a scheme or an idea or concept that is successful. >> as for tips, financial advice should be tailored to an individual's unique situation or goals. it should come from qualified professionals who can provide

personal recommendations. and make sure to loop in your kids because so many of them connect to social media. free financial programs can provide young people age-specific advice at sites like everfy.com. trending this morning, the website my pet child is out with the most popular dog breeds in california. coming in at the top of the list, the french bulldog. the bulldog, minus the french part, comes in at number two. golden retrievers round out the top three. the website based its findings on google keyword searches of 284 different dog breeds. it says french bulldogs are more prone to health conditions, causing them to pant when they walk. despite this, that breed has won over the hearts of many americans. we already know how great french bulldogs are. our own kris sanchez's cole is a member of the "today in the bay" family. here, you can see him try to

pick a fight with a water bottle. might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he is the cutest. we love our cole. cinthia pimentel is a dog mom herself. your baby, cece, is a mutt, right? >> she has a little golden retriever in her and is a boxer, as well. definitely a paw-leasing story to start off the morning. wonder what the weather will be like to kick off the middle of the month? we'll begin in hayward, where some of the coastal fog made its way to the east bay shoreline. worry not, it'll mix out into the afternoon, giving you plenty of sunshine to take the dogs out for a walk. another cool thing happening around the bay area, today we have the home game for the new york mets. yeah, there's the music. against the a's this afternoon. plenty of sunshine, so definitely bring the sunglasses, the hats, and layer on that

sunscreen. winds will be calm, as well. beautiful day around the bay area. a touch cooler, of course, at the coastline, 59 in san francisco. 57 in half moon bay. santa cruz, making our way into the santa clara valley, 69 in san jose and 70s in morgan hill and san martin. beautiful as we make our way to the north bay, as well. napa at 68. this will be the warmest day of the week. make sure you are getting out there and enjoying it. if you are headed to tahoe, beautiful sunshine, as well. which is good and bad news. there's a little bit of a concern as we are starting to see these warmer temperatures. we have our flood watch for parts of the sierra that is going to continue tonight through monday. that snow melt concern after all of that impressive snow pack that we've gotten. creeks and streams will be running high and fast. if you have outdoor plans that involve water activities, be careful of that. i also wanted you to be careful if you dip your toes or accidentally fall into the water, that could cause some

shock, as it is very, very cold temperatures. something to be careful as you enjoy your weekend and make those plans. but those concerns are going to be short lived, as more rain and snow is coming into the picture. a system will be dropping in from the gulf of alaska starting monday night. it'll hit the north bay in the evening hours, then bringing the snow for northern california into parts of the sierra and tahoe. going to continue with this as we go into tuesday morning's commute. it is no atmospheric river. the roads will be slick, so just something to watch out for. then clearing and warming up as we go into the second half of the week. look at these rain estimates. find your city. if you notice, more of that contouring, higher rain amountaiamounts will be in the north bay. quarter to half an inch if we squeeze that much out of this rain system. san francisco seven-day forecast. if you want to go out today, a little coastal fog remaining before we see the rain start to move in late on monday night, into parts of the north bay and

welcome back. many of our across the bay area were considerably impacted by those consecutive winter storms. but for people in one community, well, they were able to rely on their neighbor to help with the cleanup. garvin thomas shares his story in this morning's "bay area proud." >> reporter: one big reason people choose to live deep in the santa cruz mountains is a desire to put some distance between themselves and their next door neighbor. although this past winter, it sure paid to have a neighbor like darrell hardy not too far away. >> in times of need, it's good to have people around. when i was coming across this bridge here -- >> reporter: that was never more true than in early january up here in the hills above, when the small bridge that connected darrell and six other families to the outside world was being

overrun by a flooding creek. >> it's running a good 2, 2 1/2 feet over the bridge. i can see already that the retaining wall on the other side was starting to compromise. i could see it separating from the rest of the road. i knew we had a real problem coming on. >> reporter: in a bit of quick, creative thinking, darrell raced to install a zip line across the creek before the bridge collapsed. when it did, darrell's zip line became a lifeline to the community until the bridge was fixed. for months, it was the only way residents could get out and supplies could get in. >> the main thing is being able to survive until things normalize. >> we'll have to go from about where that is. >> reporter: as we all now know, the storms weren't done, and neither, it turns out, was darrell. another road in the community had also gone. this one, the only way for two

widows in their 70s to get to the home. >> i'll bring material up. we'll spread it. >> reporter: darrell organized a party that began repairing the road so the women can once again get their cars up it. >> yeah, i've had to walk -- i've had to backpack my food and stuff up. beer weighs a lot. >> reporter: it's a lot of work for which darrell, of course, takes no money and only reluctantly takes even a little credit. he says it's the kind of thing you do if you want to be part of a close-knit community. even when it's one where the people don't live all that close together. >> garvin thomas with another great story. thanks so much, garvin. it is 7:27 right now. we have much more ahead for you on "today in the bay." coming up, it's a battle of the northern california teams. the warriors versus the king, game one of the playoffs. where you can watch tonight.

as they look because we have that nice blanket covering up. i'm kira klapper. i want to thank you so much for starting your weekend with us. we're going to turn it over to cinthia pimentel for more on our microclimate forecast. >> hey, kira, good morning. good morning, everyone. yeah, that cloud cover definitely making it just a touch harder to get out the door this morning. 49 in san jose. temperatures in the santa clara valley are actually a little warmer compared to 24 hours ago. anywhere from about six to seven degrees warmer down here. look at the north bay, napa, santa rosa, close to ten degrees warmer compared to 24 hours ago. it's all thanks to the coastal fog that's moving on in. it'll start to burn out as we go to the mid-morning hours, then we'll give way to plenty of sunshine. as we go to the east bay, 69 in concord. 68 in fremont. low 70s in the south bay. we see plenty of sunshine and warmth as you make your way to the napa valley. it'll be short lived, however. we are tracking changes on the

way in the form of rain returning to the bay area. i'll give you an hour by hour outlook coming up in about ten minutes. kira. >> see you soon, thanks. we are learning more through court documents about the hours leading up to the gruesome stabbing death of tech founder and investor bob lee, nearly two weeks ago in san francisco. the suspect's sister was one of the few people lee was with the night of his death. that sister was at the center of a disagreement between lee and his suspected killer. we have the video of the suspect, nima momeni. they were at the hall of justice for what was supposed to be momeni's arraignment, on the left side of the screen there. his sister, khazar, appeared stoic. the outline yesterday focused on key locations. first a party on mission street where lee apparently met momeni's sister, khazar. it began monday, april 3rd.

the group drinking at an apartment on mission street. lee, khazar and witness one were there. witness one and lee eventually go to lee's hotel room at the 1 hotel san francisco on the embarcadero. witness one claims to overhear lee talking to momeni about his sister, khazar, reassuring him nothing inappropriate happened. 12:39 a.m., lee arrived at the millennium tower where khazar lives, and momeni also is there. at 2:03 a.m., cameras at the high-rise catch momeni and lee leaving together. cameras from around the area are able to track them about a half a mile to main street. there, the prosecution claims momeni and lee get out of the car. minutes later, the camera catches momeni lunges at lee. lee was stabbed three times, one of those wounds puncturing his heart. district attorney brooke jenkins called this premedicated murder

by momeni. >> this is a person who was in his vehicle with a kitchen knife. that's not something most of us carry around at all times with us. so this was something that he intended to do. >> here is momeni's lawyer. she asked the court to move his arraignment to april 25th when she is back in the country. she intends to oppose the detention of momeni, saying he is not a flight risk. she will enter a plea of not guilty. you can see those court documents on our website at nbcbayarea.com. just click on "bob lee" at the top of our homepage. we'll turn to troubling, new information on a case we've been tracking. a public defender now says problems within the antioch police department are worse than previously reported. the fbi and the contra costa county district attorney have been investigating the antioch police department since last year. they had accused 17 officers of

sending racist texts for years, but now a public defender within contra costa county claims up to 45 officers were actually involved in the texts. that includes 16 who were in leadership roles and even the internal affairs officer. now, that lawyer is calling for a halt involving prosecutions with the police department. she says no one should be charged by a department, quote, so thoroughly riddled in corruption. the council on american islamic relations, san francisco bay area, is condemning those recent revelations. >> people who are sitting behind bars based on the testimony of these officers, who are now proven to be incredibly discredited, racist bigots acting under the cover of law. >> the antioch major pro tem says the latest reports have been shocking to read. she's prepared to support a request from the mayor to bring a racial equity audit in the police department. that request will be heard

comment. he is scheduled to be arraigned on monday. happening today, alum rock park will reopen to hikers and cyclists, just about 30 minutes from now. the park has been closed since december of last year due to road and structural damage from the atmospheric river events this winter. park rangers say, right now, no cars are allowed to enter because the only road into the park is not yet safe for vehicle travel. again, the park reopens at 8:00 a.m. all right. dub nation, are you ready? the warriors are all set for game day, at least we hope they are. you can even call them commuters for the start of round one. they are taking on the sacramento kings with the first two games being played in the state capital. between the warriors and the kings, as the warriors kick off another nba playoff run. let's hope it is another long run where they're hanging up another championship banner inside of chase center. they'll have these watch parties throughout the entire playoff run. when it comes to the warriors traveling to take on the kings, it'll be a short road trip, only 87 miles to get to golden 1 center. much different from last year's first round matchup against those denver nuggets. now, there is some familiarity with the kings. their head coach is a former warriors assistant, mike brown, doing a great job there this season. they are division opponents, so they know the team very well. the kings surprised a lot of people this year. they are the higher playoff seed, the number three in the western conference. those fans are going to be excited in sacramento. this is their first time back in the playoffs since 2006. warriors coach steve kerr, he knows this is a different kings team that they're going to be

was one of the few people lee was with the night of his death, and khazar was at the center of a disagreement between lee and his suspected killer. we have video of the suspected suspect, nima momeni. they were at the hall of justice yesterday morning for what was supposed to be momeni's arraignment. the evidence outlined yesterday focused on four key locations on monday, april 3rd. first, a party at an apartment on mission street, where lee apparently met momeni's sister, khazar. the group drinking at an apartment on missionstreet, lee, khazar andnoer person, witness one, were there. witness one and lee eventually go to leave the hel room at the 1 hotel san francisco on the embarcadero. that's where the witness claims to have overheard lee talking to momeni about h sister. reassuring him nothing inappropriate, like drugs nor anything else happened. 12:39 a.m., lee arrives at the

millennium tower where khazar lives. nima momeni also is there. 2:03 a.m., cameras inside the high-riseatch momeni and lee leaving together. cameras from around the area are able to track them about a half mile away to main et. that's where the prosecution claims momeni and lee get out of the car, then minutes later, momeni lunges at lee. it was all caught on security camera. lee was stabbed three times, one of those puncturing his heart. he later died at the hospital. nima moomeni's arraignment is april 25th. his lawyer says she intends to impose the detention of momeni, saying he is not a flight risk. she'll into a plea of not guilty on his behalf. you can read those court documents on our website, nbcbayarea.com. click on "bob lee" at the top of our homepage. a santa clara councilman is

now facing charges he lied while under the oath. in october, a civil grand jury was investigating the san francisco 49ers for trying to stack the santa clara city council with team-friendly members, including that man you saw there, council member anthony becker. before the jury planned to release the report, someone leaked it to the niners. that leak then triggered a criminal grand jury investigation. prosecutors accused becker of leaking that report and then lying to the grand jury about leaking it while under oath. councilman becker did not respond to our request for comment. he is scheduled to be arraigned monday. we're going to turn now to the warriors, waking up in sacramento this morning for playoff game one against the kings tonight. steph, draymond, the whole team loading up onto buses yesterday at chase sin ter. center. included a smiling andrew wiggins. that's jordan poole.
