small town. at least three people killed. >> there is more on the way. a chance of high winds, hill as that system makes its way east into the weekend. the forecast ahead with catie beck. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. so many homes in this area look just like this one, without walls, without a roof, just levelled by that ef-3 tornado that swept through here. we're hearing incredible stories of survival this morning from folks that lived in this home and narrowly escaped here by just 15 minutes. now after all of this loss, the hard work is just beginning. in cole, oklahoma, a community coming together to clean up a town left in pieces after what the national weather service is calling an ef-3 twister tore through the area. >> i lived here for 18 years. not once have we gotten this close to a tornado hitting us. >> reporter: as the recovery begins, severe spring weather sweeping its way across the country, impacting tens of millions in the south and the midwest with brutal conditions heading east.

prayed. it was the scariest thing i have ever been in. >> reporter: and potentially good news on the horizon for folks here. the threat of severe weather has passed. they say the top priority now is going to be restoring power to this area and finding permanent housing for so many who can no longer sleep at home. savannah? >> catie, thank you very much. all right. let's get some details on the forecast from bill karins. >> good morning. how about last night? we had severe storms from wisconsin to texas, but we made it through with no injuries, no fatalities. that was a blessing. we do have damage and cleanup to be done. but it wasn't horrific. what we are dealing with you is strong thunderstorms across the gulf coast. nothing severe, just plain old rain right along the mississippi river. later on today, isolated strong storms will form in louisiana. mississippi, the areas of

concern. we may see isolated storms with some of the gusty winds, a little bit of hail, but nothing like we have seen over the last two days. this is that area of concern. but as we fast forward this storm to the east coast on saturday, it gets a little more juice so that will allow the thunderstorm to be a little stronger. a head's up to our friend from washington, d.c., raleigh area, myrtle beach headed to south carolina. to savannah. those are the areas of concern saturday. if you have afternoon plans, keep an eye to the sky. we could be dealing with isolated tornadoes, gusty winds and the possibility of hail. we're not done yet. but yesterday we were lucky and fortunate it wasn't worse. >> bill, thank you. now to this morning's political story. president biden set to make it official, launching his re-election bid next week. nbc's chief white house corresponden peter alexander joins us peter, what do you know? >> reporter: good morning. president biden is expected to make a re-election run official as soon as next tuesday. that is according to three sources familiar with the plans.

what do you make of this the prosecutors right before this key moment in the case dropping these charges against alec baldwin. >> i think that hearing is what did this they were clearly scrambling to tie try to prepare their case. at that hearing, they have to offer probable cause for why they believe he committed a crime. if they could n't do that, it would be even more embarrassin to have the judge toss the case out. >> and saying there is some new evidence that now cast sufficient doubt on whether he had the criminal intent, whether this truly could have been an accident. >> and the evidence is significant. but even before the latest development, the case was shaky from the start as you and i have discussed, their whole theory was that baldwin was supposed to somehow look at the gun himself and check it even though he was told, at least he says he was told, there was no live ammunition in that gun and on set and he relied on the armorer, whose job it was to check it. before the latest development, i

those storms brought hail and powerful winds overnight. catie beck joins us from cole, oklahoma, a town that is still, of course, taking stock from the damage of that deadly tornado this week. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, savannah. that's right. recovery and cleanup is underway after that ef-3 tornado levelled so many homes and businesses and claimed the lives of three people. but as that recovery is underway, severe spring weather has been sweeping the nation, impacting tens of millions of people with brutal weather conditions. we know of a tornado that touched down in tyler, texas, overnight. also pounding rain causing stalled vehicle and water rescues in austin, texas, as well. we are also aware of golf ball sized hail that was impacting arkansas and illinois overnight. so a lot of people facing damage and threats and clean up left today. but, of course, here in cole, oklahoma, this is a situation that will take months, they say.

using peels. >> we don't know what else to do with it. let's start with mango peels. >> yes we have mango peels here this is an indian recipe we like to eat everything in india. i'm trying to bring that to america as well. we will make a chutney with this all we will do is put the peels in with fresh ginger, garlic, green chili and fresh coriander or cilantro. add a little bit of salt because you want to balance all the flavors. we will blend this up. once it is blended, it looks like these we have some spices. these are black mustard seeds. we add this in and cook it through until it's softened once this is cooked through, you can store it in an airtight ja or container for up to a week in your fridge. i love to eat this with pita bread or as a condiment. so if you want to taste this. >> so the mango peel is fully edible >> yes make sure to get organic mangos and scrub them clean.
