devastation. >> reporter: kristen, good morning. i spoke to a woman who rode out the storm in this shelter. she emerged to find that this is what was left of her home. cinder blocks and back porch back there. it was destroyed. now many items are gathered in piles like this throughout the yard and this is the kind of devastation that so many people in this community are returning to as severe weather across the south and midwest is wrecking havoc. >> oh, [ bleep ]. >> reporter: a twister through tyler, texas. unrelenting rain in austin causing dangerous flash flooding and water rescues. >> that water came up to here. >> it was pretty bad. >> reporter: as golf-ball sized hail hit oklahoma and illinois. thousands in texas and oklahoma

and arkansas remain without power. the governor declaing a state of emergency after an ef-3 tornado killing three. many there now grappling with the path of death and destruction left behind. this woman is still shaken after riding out the storm in the bunker in her backyard. >> good 50 pounds. it ripped the hinges off. >> reporter: when she emerged, there was nothing left. she is unsure of what comes next. >> how are you feeling? >> scared. we are trying to find temporary housing or a hotel to afford. month to month. i'm not sure. >> reporter: in the midst of the uncertainty, her fiance's boss helping a hand. >> all we have is hands. we are taking care of our family. >> how much do those things mean in this moment? >> it is keeping a smile on my face. i feel i have hope.

we turn to the violence in sudan as the fighting rages with the sudanese army. the biden administration is looking to get the embassy employees out. we have courtney kube following the latest. good morning. >> reporter: kristen, good morning. despite both sides agreeing to the three-day cease-fire after the holiday, fighting raged on in khartoum prompting planning to get people out. thousands of americans among those caught in the crossfire in sudan. a 72-hour cease-fire not ending the violence. the state department announcing an an american was one of those killed. the sudan international airport shutdown. many residents without running water or food. the pentagon sending troops to

the military base in jbooti. >> we haven't been called on anything yesterday. >> reporter: the biden administration is leaning to the evacuation of the u.s. personnel there according to the sources familiar with the planning. while the planning is to rescue the rest in sudan, the mission is too dangerous. this morning, one among those stranded. >> there is no plane that can safely land. at the moment, i'm kind of taking it day by day and hour by hour. >> reporter: late friday, chairman of the joint chiefs mark milley called his counterpart to discuss those trapped in sudan. now they are coordinating efforts to evacuate american

diplomats. the airport in khartoum is closed and at the center of the recent fighting. the rescue mission could be very dangerous. kristen. >> courtney, let me follow-up on you with that point. if there is an evacuation of u.s. government personnel, when he could it happen? what is the earliest? what about those not government employees? >> reporter: the u.s. military could rescue personnel in a matter of hours. they have the aircraft and troops and logistical support. although the state department says it is dangerous to evacuate the 16,000 in sudan, the officials tell me they are preparing for all contingencies. including if ordered to conduct a larger evacuation. for now, americans are continued to shelter in place and register with the u.s. embassy in khartoum. kristen. >> courtney kube, thank you. filming and production on

the set of "rust" is back under way a year and a half after shutdown after the accidental death of the cinematographer. the prosecutors dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charge against alec baldwin. we have erin mclaughlin with more. >> reporter: peter, good morning. alec baldwin back on the set of "rust." this image obtained by nbc news after the announcement that the charge of involuntary manslaughter has been dropped against him. baldwin has denied the charges maintaining he never pulled the trigger of the gun that killed halyna hutchins. now a source with knowledge of the investigation tells nbc news the new prosecutors recently learned that the colt .45 in question was modified with a new trigger making it possible to misfire the gun. prosecutors released a statement

the developments. allie, good morning. >> reporter: kristen, good morning. access to mifepristone remains for now unchanged this morning after the supreme court late friday granted emergency request from the biden administration and one of the drugmakers to block a lower texas court decision to remove fda approval of the drug after two decades. the texas ruling would have taken the pill off the market, but for now, mifepristone remains available to women in person or by mail for use until ten weeks into the pregnancies. president biden celebrating the decision, but acknowledging the case is not over. vowing to quote continue the fight in the courts. now because the supreme court decision is just temporary, the case now heads back to the fifth circuit court of appeals where a three-judge panel made up of mostly conservatives will evaluate the merits of the original lawsuit. it is unclear who will hear the case. an expedited hearing is set for
