it is almost impossible -- impossible to tell where the wind is coming from down here on the tee. >> that is fine. >> all right. >> there has to be a committed swing on this one, morgan. no doubt. >> where is that orange umbrella she is talking about? >> right above the head. >> and that is a long way right. maybe hoping to catch the slope on the green. >> that is a long way. >> i can get it, like, it is -- if i can get it just over that
3:31 pm
hill. >> yeah. >> did she club up or down? >> i think she clubbed up. i think that she is going with the same club that corpuz has, 7. >> aiming way to the right. >> oh, that is not good. >> oh, my goodness. that is going to make it difficult and i wonder if that ball plugged there. it did not seem to come back into the face of the bunker, and we will see. drama here at the chevron drama here at the chevron championship. drivining diversitity takekes energy,, boboth on and d off the cocou. as proud s sponsor off ththe chevron n championshsh, we're expapanding accecess toto more amatateur golfere. and we're e increasingng stem e education and careerer opportuninities for women,n, to l lift the nenext generatan upup—in bususiness...anand in .

back at the 17th and it has
3:34 pm
come out of the pitch mark, which is good news for angel, karen. >> but the bad news on the slope, and it is struggling to get to the landing, and it is going to struggle to get it there, and so hard to judge this -- >> oh, no! >> she couldn't have left it in a worse spot. >> she tried to get too much height on it and bend it a little bit out to right. >> it is unraveling a little bit here for angel yin having been playing so well here today. let's have another look here, morgan. >> yeah, tried so hard to get underneath it and get any spin. she carried it way too far. that is a tough shot, but i think that the mistake was off of the tee there. >> and albane venezuela is laying up here, paige? >> yes, by the 3 wood, she wanted play it as a three-shot hole. >> and you have to wonder if she
3:35 pm
knows where she is and make eagle, it is going to post eagle. >> yes. it is a curious choice. >> some players don't want to know where they stand. but you need to know, don't you? >> that is where the caddie needs to know at least. i am sure her dad has been looking at the leaderboard, but there is something that she felt uncomfortable with that tee shot not to hit the driver. >> and now corpuz. >> that is a blessing there for angel to gather her thoughts. and tom, we have seen quite a few from here. >> and that is going down the hole left to right. and it is one of the putts that you like, karen, because it is
3:36 pm
going to get there. >> over the spots, and jay monahan poinpointed out that if pitch it there, you will have good speed. >> it is an interesting view of angel and the self-talk which has changed dramatically since hitting it in the bunker of 16 off of the tee. she handled the adversity of 15 well, but since then, everything is tighter. >> make this, and eagle at the last and ties with lilia vu. >> no chance at all. very soft. >> okay. the best she is going to be able to do is a 3 here to keep her at 7 under par and even an eagle at 18 would not be enough. but it would still be a very, very good week for allisen corpuz.
3:37 pm
the leaderboard as it stands right now, and the players will see. we will go up to the 18th. >> this has to go in for valenzuela. >> the wind is up and down to the left. >> well played. curious strategy at 18. >> angel yin. any issue to get the putter back there with the fringe, karen? >> well, it is tight and a little adjustment to pick up the putter a little bit quicker which means she might chop back on the back of the ball there more and you might see it pop up a little bit. it rolled smoothly.
3:38 pm
>> it should be a four, but it is back-to-back bogeys for angel yin at just the wrong time. she will mark and she is going to be standing in corpuz' line. >> it wasn't a bad putt, but she had to take it over the quicker cut of rough. >> and now, she'll have to take the driver over to 18, and this tapped in, a birdie would tie her with lilia vu. allisen corpuz. >> it is going straight back up the hill, tom. for allisen.
3:39 pm
>> yep, she has had the experience of playing in a final round of the major championship and a chance to make a very big check on 18. and now angel yin to tap-in for bogey. >> how does she compose herself for the final hole. >> yes, this is an important walk to focus and change her composure. >> the gallery is trying to help her along with that. and lilia vu has made her way over the range to keep loose and hit some balls. 10 under in the clubhouse.
3:40 pm
and now, it wasn't the case when she finished, but up by one and in first place all by herself. the eagle at the last to post a 9 under and angel yin with a chance at par 5 to make birdie and get it to 10 under to force the playoff or perhaps an eagle. pretty wild what we have been watching over the last half hour. >> i have a sense that she does not know that angel has made another bogey, and her physio is asking me what angel has done and lilia is seeming really, really calm. and annalise says she is more calm than lilia is. >> and what needs to happen here? >> she needs to get back to the
3:41 pm
free throwing angel that we have been seeing for 90% of the day we have seen. and her caddie needs to come in and lighten the mood, and there is a nice smile we have plenty of height off of the tee ball and play it up the right and off of the green in two. >> and obviously, you have to know where you stand in the tournament, and you trail by one, and you need a birdie to tie and eagle to win it. >> and maybe needing birdie to tie helps her refocus and instead of having the lead and now behind saying, this is what i have to do. >> frees you up a little bit, too. >> yes. >> allisen corpuz and this is going to be the best finish for her on tour, and the best finish
3:42 pm
for her was the handa world invitational. from honolulu and went to usc. >> she is just building experience, terry. every single time she puts herself in this position, she is going to learn a little something about herself and what she needs to put herself across the finish line for future lpga championships. >> nice shot. >> okay. it is going to stay in the fairway on the left side. >> critical tee shot now for angel yin. >> now you have to attack. change modes.
3:43 pm
i like the aggressive practice swing there, morgan. showing intent. >> shaking a little bit off, and taking a deep breath and you heard her sigh out. >> they like it. >> plenty of distance for her to get to the green. game on. >> pretty impressive, right? after what has been taking place in the last couple of holes and having had the lead and being the name at the top, and you think about her career, and the california state women's amateur, and when she was 12 years old and won it at 14 and then the u.s. women's amateur and then the u.s. women's open with the seven-year career here on the lpga, and looking to win for first time and right now in this moment though, based on what you saw from the tee shot, you think that she is back in the same mode?
3:44 pm
>> i think that like i said, and like karen said, she has to be offense and catch back up, and there is a very large leaderboard at the 17th green, and she knows right where she stands and in her reaction and she knew where she stood, and things were tight coming down the back few holes of the major championship and tested with adversity and we saw the adversity of 15 that she handled well and 16 not so well, and we saw some of the negative self-talk coming in and that is what she has done so well with the positive self-talk, and even got started with the bogey on the card today, but rebounded well, and stayed positive and stayed her smily and bubbly self until 16. and she needs to bring it back out right here. >> so, take you back to the 16th and what took place, and remember she drove it in the bunker and then a long discussion with the caddie about what that next shot would be, and laid up. gave herself a chance in the
3:45 pm
fairway. >> i think that she hit a beautiful shot and recovery here and she gave herself a look at par. and i think that she hit a good putt, but played too much break, and it was not necessarily this putt, but it was her whole attitude and her body language and you could see her talking to hearse and then, i think that this is a big mistake here, terry, aimed way too far right off of the tee and almost hit the bunker shot off of her back foot. and just starting to unravel ever so slightly. but she put herself in good position here on 18. >> and so in the fairway in a reachable par 5 and one off of the clubhouse leader. so much of this game is not spent actually with the action of golf but the walk in between
3:46 pm
and the moments in between. it is as much of a challenge as anything of what is going on as you are thinking about the next shot and playing that hole. >> that is what you say to yourself in those moments. you have caddie, but it is just you out there for the most top 99 flag. that is allisen corpuz is away. >> that is going to be an easier
3:47 pm
chip if i lay, right? >> yes, anywhere over there, and you have 12 or 15 paces of green to chip. >> you think that is it? i think it is too tight. >> that is what i am thinking about, too, and still, i think it is so close. >> i think it is just over and try to make up and down for birdie. >> and hit the back grandstand real quick. just over to the left-hand edge of the bunker? >> yes, perfect. just straight down? >> just a hair off of the right. >> okay. >> i do like that she is on the upslope and it is a nice feeling when you have a fairway looking
3:48 pm
at long instead of short. >> it sounds like she would be happy if this goes up against the grandstand. kind of a similar place where we saw lilia chip from and got up and down successfully. >> quite a sensible play to ben host with, you because the alternative is not a good option. >> oh, left. >> look out! >> that flew a long way. >> is it lodged up at the top of the grandstand? i think she is shocked, too. >> oh, it is. >> wow. what in the world. how does that even --
3:49 pm
>> how did that happen? >> i don't know. >> hmm. >> well, relief obviously. >> back to the second for angel yin now. angel is 179 to the hole. >> you think so? the last hole, we like to the left edge of the bunker and then we cut it in threes and left-hand side. >> i like the line of the left center of the bunker or the middle of the bunker is fine by me. >> they have missed last few holes to the right, and more intense under pressure. >> you have to make sure that you center the hole rather than guide it. a lot of height there and it is right on the line. ooh, coming up clutch! >> what a shot. >> way to regroup.
3:50 pm
>> birdie to tie and eagle to win. >> i was like, marcus says to slow down. >> nice, nice. >> okay. let's do something great. >> let's be great today. >> and the smile is back, morgan. >> it is a special moment here. >> how long was that? >> 185. >> definitely. >> i love what she said there. you told me to slow it down and
3:51 pm
try to pause at the top, and under pressure things get quick and tight and she pulled off the shot of her life there. >> please welcome allisen corpuz. and miss angel yin. >> so the walk up to the green and it will be an eagle putt to win it. obviously, a two putt to force a playoff. angel yin in a moment of time that she says she has thought about and been dreaming about every single day. when she talks about that,
3:52 pm
talking about just a win, a victory on the lpga tour, but how about making it a major championship. as lilia vu waits. she had waited for a while near the green, and then headed over to the range. and all that she has been through, and every athlete goes through adversity and some more than others but coming out of college with big expectations and not getting it done initially and going back to the epson tour and making it back to the lpga and breaking through with a win earlier in the season and holds a one-shot lead here in a major. >> you can see how her self-talk
3:53 pm
changed there. let's do something great. >> totally. so, from the grandstand to this spot for allisen corpuz. >> it is quite quick from the back of this green back towards the hole. >> karen, a chance not the win it, because chance to place in a major championship to go a long way. >> yes, it cements in your own mind that you were here and contending in the final group. not everybody can come straight out in a major championship and win their first time of putting themselves in that position.
3:54 pm
>> and we talked about, karen, about self-belief with angel, and i think that allisen needs some of that to believe she belongs there. >> and sometimes it just takes somebody to tell you that, too. >> well done. so, karen, what about this eagle putt for angel yin. >> from here to the hole is going to be very speedy and all you have to do so get the ball
3:55 pm
started on the line that you want it to go on. and the point about the speed is not the thing here, but it is the line. initially, you will have a feeling that it wants to go left, but i think that at the hole, it is going to want to drift back to the right, and so another one of those tricky reads. the dilemma is being great and making it or making sure that you have an easy two putt. >> and of all of the moments of the 72nd hole here of this championship and karrie webb holing out for eagle, and mirim. >> i remember that drama here with karrie webb. >> this is for the win.
3:56 pm
hang on. as she has done all day long, she got it to the hole and aggressive. >> she has been definitely confident with the club in her hand. and needs one more good solid stroke here to get her into this playoff. i don't think that this should have a ton of break to it.
3:57 pm
>> that ball traveling to the hole, you have to be thinking please slow down, please slow down. >> her head is down and just regrouping. just regrouping. i like that a little bit. is she trying to read something into this putt, karen. >> i think that is a temptation, morgan. she had the advantage of watching the ball go past the holement i know that i am not putting this putt and my heart is beating out of my chest, and hers has to be doing the say. >> for birdie to force a playoff.
3:58 pm
>> will that birdie putt into the hole. and we will have a playoff here. at the chevron championship. corpuz to finish up. terrific week here at the major.
3:59 pm
74 disappointing number in the final round. it was tough today and did not get off to the start that she did yesterday, but it will be a playoff. angel yin and lilia vu. the third playoff in the last four tournaments. another look. i mean, this was no gimme. >> she was so solid from that distance all day t today. and one more here. at she said, i did not want a playoff, but you got one now. >> at that moment, you did. >> and lilia vu over on the putting green, and perhaps on the putting green heard the reaction. so it will be the 25-year-old from california lilia vu versus
