"early today" starts right now good to be with you. i'm frances rivera. >> and i'm phillip mena. we begin in sudan, where nor than 400 people have been killed in eight days of fighting between the sudanese army and their rivals the paramilitary rapid support forces known as rsf. american forces have evacuated all u.s. embassy personnel from the country in a stunning airlift happening amid fierce clashes in khartoum. secretary of state antony blinken said the ungoing flight posed an unacceptable risk to our embassy personnel. let's go live to london and ali

arouzi ali, germany what more can you tell us about these evacuations? >> good morning, phillip that's right, the situation on the ground has become so unstable and so violent that the white house announced that it conducted an operation on sunday to remove embassy staff. u.s. officials say around 100 special forces evacuated a little less than 100 u.s. personnel on three chinook helicopters, and they called the operation fast and clean now the u.s. embassy has now closed in khartoum they have suspended operations and they've also posted a statement saying that the u.s. government is not able at the present moment to evacuate private citizens from sudan because of the situation on the ground now mark warner the democratic chair of the senate intelligence committee said the united states is working with partners and allies to get u.s. citizens out of sudan as soon as it's safe.

but at the moment, they need to shelter in place until circumstances on the ground change the u.s. also announced on sunday that it was sending disaster response team to the area to coordinate a humanitarian response, both for people inside of sudan and people trying to get out u.s. aheaded by samantha power announced they said up operations in nearby kenya and they were focusing on life-saving humanitarian assistance after eight days of incredible violence there. and it's not just the u.s., phillip, that have evacuated a long string of countries have also evacuated their personnel, including the uk, germany, france, sweden, saudi arabia, just to name a few because the situation on the ground has become so perilous as you mentioned already, over 400 people have been killed in eight days of fighting and thousands more injured >> extremely dangerous situation
