"early today" starts right now good morning, i'm frances rivera. >> and i'm phillip mena. we begin in texas where police are searching for answers after a prom night ended in gunfire. officials say about 250 people were at an after prom party in jasper county when just after midnight early sunday shots rang out. nine people were hit the victims range in age from 15 to 19 and they are all expected to survive police say they have people of interest who are being questioned but have not announced the arrest of suspects. now to american forces that evacuated all u.s. embassy personnel from sudan in a

stunning airlift happening amid fierce clashes in the capital of khartoum secretary of state antony blinken said the ongoing strife posed an unacceptable risk to our embassy personnel. let's go live to london and ali ar arouzi. >> reporter: with the situation on the ground becoming ever more unstable and violent between government forces and military forces the ars the white house conducted an operation on sunday to remove embassy staff. they say about 100 special forces evacuated less than 100 personnel on three chinook helicopters in an operation that they said was fast and clean now, since then the u.s. embassy in khartoum has closed, they have suspended operations there and they have posted a statement saying that at the current

moment the u.s. government is unable to evacuate private u.s. citizens from sudan because it is so dangerous and unstable on the ground but mark warner, the democratic chair of the house intelligence committee said that the united states is working with partners and allies in and around sudan to safely evacuate u.s. personnel that are still stuck in the country, but he's advising them to shelter in place for the time being until the situation changes. now, the u.s. also announced that on sunday it had sent a disaster response team to the area to coordinate humanitarian response, both for people who are inside sudan and peopletha have managed to get out. head of u.s. aid, samantha power, confirmed that the u.s. had set up operations in a neighboring kenya to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance for people that have been able to get out and

whatever they can get into the country. it's not just the u.s. that are evacuating personnel, a long string of other countries including the uk, germany, france, sweden, china, saudi arabia to name a few, are evaluating all of their personnel in khartoum as the situation continues to deteriorate as over 400 people have been killed and thousands more injured in clashes between government forces and the paramilitary rsf. >> it is clear how dire the situation is with that kind of evacuation and those numbers, too. ali, thank you the massachusetts air national guardsman accused of posting classified pentagon documents online may have started his alleged leaking a lot earlier than authorities originally thought "the new york times" reporting that jack teixeira first uploaded military secrets in late february, not december like he's charged for here is ken dilanian >> reporter: new reporting that the accused leaker of classified

information began posting secrets more than a year ago, shortly after russia's invasion of ukraine "the new york times" says it discovered that airman jack teixeira allegedly began sharing military secrets as far back as february 2022 to a chat group containing 600 members, that's ten months before the december 2022 leaks that teixeira is charged with two sources familiar with the matter tell nbc news investigators gave no indication when briefing congress that they were aware of this new set of disclosures. the fbi and the pnt gone have been scrambling to assess the damage from a leak they first discovered april 5th. >> the longer something is out there floating in the ether, in the cyber world without the government knowing, without them being able to shut it down, the more potential damage can be done. >> reporter: teixeira's lawyer, the fbi and the pentagon declined to comment. the "times" matched the new post to teixeira through a series of digital clues, including a handle he had previously used,
