san francisco, where at least five people are shot in north beach. new information from one witness about what was heard as the gunfire erupted. >> and deadly weekend on bay area roads as well, with an unusual string of wrong-way crashes, and an update from authorities this morning on multiple investigations. >> and new short-term rental regulations may soon be coming to one north bay county. the new crackdown leaders in wine country are considering. this is "today in the bay." a very good monday morning to you. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. we're going to get to the latest on the violence out of san francisco in just a moment. just a scary situation out there. first, we want to look at that forecast for us today. how is it looking? >> it started to warm up over the weekend, cooldown a bit yesterday, and we're going to have the same weather as yesterday for today. let's get you started with a look at our temperatures this

morning, mostly in the upper 40s and low 50s. it's 50 in sonoma, 49 in san francisco and 50 in san mateo. as we head into today, we're going to reach into the upper 60s in fremont, and 73 in livermore. notice that these temperatures are anywhere from mid-70s inland to upper 70s, and even reaching 80 degrees in fairfield. we're going to see warmer temperatures as we go through the week. i'll have more on that coming up in a few minutes. mike, you're concerned about a report from hayward. >> i am, because we don't have a lot of detail, but one report comes in saying 880 northbound, as you're approaching a street, a crash is reportedly affecting all lanes. i'm not sure why, if it's debris or a number of vehicles across lanes. it sounds severe, but it's been there for a couple of minutes and no sensor slowing. i'll continue to try to get a live camera, but watch north 880

approaching a street. the rest of the approach toward the bay bridge fine, but there are smaller incidents coming up. we want to begin with breaking news right now out of san francisco. one person is dead, four others injured, after gunfire in popular north beach. this happened a little before 11:00 last night along grant and columbus near broadway. the person killed died at the scene. police say a gun was found nearby. one witness from the uk even saying that he was in his hotel room when this all happened just a few steps away. >> i looked out the window, there was a guy being dragged in the street to a car, the car drove off. the guy got dragged back over to the convenience store and a girl ran down here, got shot as well. >> so far, police are not revealing much about that investigation, including whether they know what led up to the shooting. but "today in the bay"'s bob

redell is there gathering information for us this morning. he'll have a live report during our 5:00 hour. it's 4:33 right now. the chp is still investigating a deadly and dangerous weekend on bay area roadways. a string of wrong-way crashes left four people dead, five more injured between san rafael and sunnyvale. officers responded to five reports of wrong-way drivers in less than 38 hours. "today in the bay"'s marianne favro following all the latest developments. >> reporter: a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on highway 237 left two men dead. chp officers say a man drove his honda civic the wrong direction on westbound highway 237 in sunnyvale. >> it was a two-vehicle traffic crash and it appeared to be head-on, determined that one of the vehicles had entered the freeway and was traveling the wrong way when it collided with another vehicle in the number two lane. >> reporter: the crash killed

both drivers, two men in their 20s to 30s. less than 12 hours later, officers responded to reports of another wrong-way driver on the same highway. >> our officers were able to respond to that location and get the vehicle stopped and contacted the driver, who was having some sort of medical emergency. that driver was transported to a local area hospital. >> reporter: in oakland, another wrong-way driver, this time on westbound i-580. chp officers say the driver of a ford pickup hit an oakland city tree maintenance truck. both survived and the wrong-way driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. all of that follows a crash on southbound 280 on woodside saturday. chp officers arrest today driver of this white sedan, 24-year-old

constellatia martin is suspected of driving the wrong way. she's been identified as 54-year-old eden palmer who died at the scene. her 14-year-old son was also in the vehicle and suffered major injuries. no word on how he's doing. chp believes martin may have been under the influence of drug. the spree of deadly crashes began early saturday morning in san rafael, when a 22-year-old wrong-way driver was killed after hitting another car on southbound highway 101 just north of the i-580 interchange. the other driver suffered major injuries. chp officers say most wrong-way crashes happened at night and usually involve drivers who are unfamiliar with the area or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. marianne favro, "today in the bay." chp is also investigating a deadly dui crash in the east bay that happened yesterday morning in hayward on southbound 880

near winton avenue. chp says the car slammed into a flatbed tow truck. the passenger did not survive. the driver is facing dui and manslaughter charges. the tow truck driver was not hurt. sonoma county leaders will consider a new crackdown on those short-term rentals like a airbnb. one would put more operation standards, including limiting guests to 12 people and establishing stricter parking rules, the other would place caps on certain neighborhoods to prevent over-saturation of rentals. it comes with a vacation rental moratorium set to expire on ma 9th. oakland teachers getting closer to another possible strike that comes in the wake of what teachers call stalled contract talks. the district says it remains confident it can still reach a deal with the union. teachers are threatening to walk off the job as soon as next monday.

announced the move on sunday, after it failed in several last-ditch efforts to raise enough money to keep the company alive. shares of the company closed at 29 cents friday, giving it a market value of $136.9 million. the stock is down about 88% this year, and the company's 360 namesake story and 120 bye-bye baby locations will remain open for the time being as it begins to close the business and liquidate assets. >> jury selection is under way for a trial that claims that ed sheeran owes a share of profits from his hit "thinking out loud" for copying marvin gaye's "lets get it on". it's made it to a trial that is expected to last about a week in a manhattan federal courtroom and sheeran is among the witnesses expected to testify. keep an eye out for that. we'll see what happens. >> i was hoping marcus would

take a look at this, a live look outside over san francisco. trans america pyramid lit up in warriors colors. we're all tied up now and maybe the brightness of it will see us through. >> a win is a win. >> it's cool. really nice. >> we need more yellow. >> purple. >> nice and clear to see it. yeah, it is all clear out there. great weather, too, especially as we are going to have milder mornings over the next several days as our temperatures warm up. and today we are going to have breezy winds and mild temperatures, but we are set to start a warming trend over the next couple of days. and then our temperatures for

the bay will reach into the low 80s, but inland we're talking about highs near 90 degrees midweek. so today our nicest day of the week as san jose starts out with temperatures in the low 50s, as we head toward noon it will be 67 degrees. then reaching into the low 70s for the afternoon, just briefly, and great weather for the giants home game this evening. our temperatures drop down into the mid-50s. it's going to be breezy, but a nice night for some baseball. take a look at these temperatures for today, reaching 71 in mountain view, 75 in martinez, and some upper 70s for santa rosa, while san francisco will be in the low 60s. we can see the range in temperatures here but it does continue to warm up tomorrow, with a few more 80s on the map from san jose down to the south county, over toward livermore and parts of the inland east bay, as well as the north bay. but then on wednesday it gets even hotter in those areas,

while san francisco will be in the mid-70s, it will be in the mid-80s as you make your way to the tri-valley. as we go to the middle of the week, it will feel like summer. then by the weekend we're going to have a cool front move in that's going to bring down temperatures. and we take a look at ukiah, starting the week at 72 degrees, but reaching 92 on thursday, and then we're back down several degrees for the weekend into early next week. so we're going to see the spike in temperatures lasting for a few days. mike, you're following up on a couple of incidents. >> nothing major. we do have a follow-up for 680 northbound. you see a little slowing right here, north 680 around capital expressway. now, there was a crash and a number of lanes were blocked. then chp's report said all lanes are clear. there must be something going on along the shoulder. the sensors just changed from red to orange.

even more likely those sensors are skewed by people who are still there, some squad cars, perhaps. we're looking at the rest of the bay and have the closure on 680 through sunol and the crash at 880 north at a street has cleared. back to you. developing this morning, with the violence in sudan spiraling further out of control, the u.s. military has successfully evacuated dozens of american embassy workers from the nation's capital. the move as rival military leaders battle for control. nbc's courtney kube reports many u.s. sit sentence are desperate to get out. >> reporter: tonight the urgent race to evacuate citizens from the growing violence in sudan city khartoum. carrying out evacuation flights successfully, italian flying citizens and others to safety. the u.s. carried out their daring rescue operation under
