events craig? >> kristen welker from the white house there, thank you let's bring in nbc's senior washington correspondent hallie washington now president biden's approval rating 41% he will be 82 years old if he is re-elected let's talk about the hurdles and the challenges that the president faces as he launches this election. >> you hit on both of the big ones, craig, starting with how old he is, frankly his age. nearly half of people tell us in our latest poll that that is a major reason to oppose president biden running. only about a third say that it is not a problem listen, democrats that i talked to acknowledge that, yes, this is going to be a question that the president will have to face. conservatives are making it an issue. they have been but the biden team will try to make the age kind of an asset. right? talking about the experience he is a steady hand right now. you saw the video announced this morning. i think it was a very energetic and vigorous joe biden that wa sort of intentionally shown in

this video here. the other issue the president faces is the meh attitude of 70% of all americaning including 51% of democrats, so more than half of democrats, say they just don't want to see him run again. most of those democrats, however, say they would probably vote for him anyway in the end, which is what's going to matter here 16 months from now, craig. >> let's talk about the national mood today, hallie, versus four years ago. how much does that change the president's re-election strategy, or does it change it at all? >> well, it is a good question because you look at the national mood. october of 2020, 19% of people said they felt satisfied with how things are going. look at where we are this past month. 19% of people said they feel satisfied with how the country is going. not much has changed. on the political landscape, listen, the pandemic was a much bigger issue then. less so now. abortion access is a bigger issue now after the overturning of roe v. wade.

but bottom line, you are seeing president biden re-run some of his 2020, frankly, successful pitch, the battle for the soul of the nation. you are seeing republicans re-run, frankly, the same candidate, right, donald trump, who is the front-runner in the republican race and has united the gop around and at this moment. it is 2020 vibes, craig. that's what it is. whether people like it or not. and people don't. only 5% of americans say they want to see a joe biden/donald trump rematch. we'll see what happens in a year. right now those are the two front runners from each party. >> also breaking overnight, a temporary cease-fire taking effect in war torn sudan giving hopes for thousands of americans trapped in that deadly fighting and looking for a way out. richard engel joins us this morning with the latest. good morning.

>> i'm emma goss outside of san francisco's hall of justice, where later this morning the accused killer of tech executive and cash app founder bob lee will be arraigned. the lawyer for the man accused in the deadly stabbing, nima momeni, told us momeni will enter a not guilty plea and request bail. the arraignment is set for 9:00 a.m. >> reporter: i'm bob redell. teachers and staff with oakland unified have voted on whether or not to strike and possibly walk off the job as early as this upcoming monday. but they are not going to announce the results of the vote until a news conference at 5:00 tonight. the teachers and oakland unified are locked in a contract dispute over higher wages and other issues, and the union accuses the district of bargaining in bad faith. ousd says it's confident it can reach a deal, but if a strike is approved, it would be the second in a month after dozens of teachers walked off the job back in march. let's get a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. >> it's a hazy start to the day

killing is scheduled to appear in court later today nbc national correspondent miguel almaguer joins us. miguel, good morning >> guys, good morning. the suspect is facing up to life in prison if convicted in just a few hours in court, his lawyers are expected to argue why the tech entrepreneur should be released on bond if that happens, prosecutors could lay out even more of their case >> reporter: prosecutors say the moments before, during and after the murder of bob lee were recorded on surveillance cameras and helped detectives track down their suspect. according to court documents, the tech titan's relationship with this woman may have been the reason her brother, nima momeni killed the 43-year-old. is mr. lee's relationship with the suspect's sister a major part of this case? >> his relationship with the suspect's sister is certainl the connection that appears between the two. so that is something that's important to this investigation. >> reporter: denied bail earlier

this month, court documents allege momeni may have been upset with lee the night of the murder a witness telling police he was questioning plea regarding whether his sister was doing drugs or anything inappropriate. investigators say both men were recorded leaving his luxury apartment in the suspect's bmw around 2:00 a.m. soon after, arriving at a dark and secluded area where investigators say the victim was stabbed three times with a kitchen knife. one of the stab wounds directly penetrating his heart. authorities calling it a planned and deliberate attack. >> there is evidence regarding motive that has been located in this case, but certainly, we have to make sure that we look at every avenue. >> reporter: this video obtained by the dailymail.com shows lee staggering away after the attack police later found a text message from khazar momeni on lee's phone. just want to make sure you are

book that she co-wrote with her mom called "honey baby mine. good morning it is so good to see you. >> so amazing to you. >> i had the privilege of meeting your beautiful mother yesterday as we talked about this book. the genesis of your book is your mom gets a scary, terrible diagnosis in 2018 and doctors are saying to her, the only solution we have right now is to walk. >> right. >> and that kind of unlocked this incredible part of her. >> yeah. she was exposed to pesticides being sprayed in the neighborhood and was not notified and realized that she had scarring on her lungs. and they said if you could get her walking, expand her lung capacity, maybe it will help so i knew my mom as a story teller and actress might be willing to walk because she was reticent it was painful very difficult at the time she was on oxygen to just get her to tell stories. i said i will record them in my

phone and we will have them for you grandchildren. they said she might have 3 to 6 months to live so we told each other everything. >> well, these are the kind of questions that we don't ever ask our parents. we think we know our moms. we think we know our dads. but we really don't because we're afraid to ask them, ask them questions that are very poignant and meaningful. your mom lost a child when the child was just months old, and that was a difficult thing for her to discuss yet, she opened up and talked about all these things. >> and she said that she really felt finally releasing some of the grief and challenges and heartbreak of her life as well as us laughing over absurd fights and silly things we have been through was, in fact, so healing physically and emotionally. and i was shocked at how little i'd asked her the hard stuff because i thought i don't want to bring it up and hurt her. but even the simple stuff. i've been raised by an actor i worked alongside my mother yet, i never asked, why did you

welcome back this morning on "today table," making a 15-minute dish. joining us today alejandro ramos. scan the qr code to get all of the ingredients with one simple click. i think a lot of people would be intimidated to make it at home. >> it is typically made with dried chick peas we are starting with the canned chick peas what we want to do with that is drain them, right? >> okay. >> get the extra liquid out. use a dish towel or extra paper towels

make sure it is clean and blot out that extra moisture because you want it nice and dry that makes sure they have a great texture. then we just add flavor. i like to put it in a food processer. it makes everything quick. if you want to do it by hand we have grated garlic, chilly flake, cumin that all goes in get that all in there. a little bit of coriander, too, adds brightness, some chopped onions. >> red or white? >> whatever you have on hand parsley in there lemon zest that adds some really great freshness. salt and pepper, you know the deal. >> okay. >> then you just lock it in. >> and then you end up with this >> pulse button gives you more control. a nice, thick paste. really simple. i love using a cookie scoop for that you can make that little thing and pat it into these perfect patties. >> then you put these into the deep fry
