for the texas man authorities believe murdered five neighbors in cold blood. new details on what investigators say sparked the rampage. >> and a new strategy to fight fentanyl in san francisco. you may see new patrols on the streets if you're in the city today. we'll tell you more about that. you're watching "today in the bay." here we go, monday morning. 5:00 right now, thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. mike is keeping his eyes on the road. first, we've got to talk about the forecast coming off of a nice weekend. >> yeah, but it changed drastically between saturday and sunday and we're going to continue sunday's weather today, and we're also looking at cooler temperatures. i think some people were excited to see the cooler weather coming back, and we are seeing clouds and a little bit of drizzle as you're driving around parts of the bay area. it's going to stay mostly cloudy, temperatures right now in the low 50s, and as we go through the rest of the morning we're going to stay in the 50s
5:02 am
today, with some gusty winds. only reaching 60 in san jose, now some of us will not make it out of the 50s this afternoon, with hayward reaching 59 degrees and napa reaching 62, in santa rosa we'll see a high of 66 degrees. more weather like this and we'll add in some rain. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. mike, you're tracking an alert in san jose. >> i've been tracking it for a while. we had all lanes of 880 blocked about 15, 20 minutes ago. we did open the two middle lanes and traffic is light enough it has been able to recover with speeds. still very slow down past brokow road. the middle two lanes are open, the outer two lanes are blocked. i think they're waiting for a sweeper truck, so that will mean slowing on 880 south of 237, clearing by the time you get to 101. there is a crash reported earlier in the berryessa area, but 101 does move smoothly
5:03 am
northbound. some wind reported in the east bay and san francisco. back to you. >> thank you very much. 5:02 right now. breaking news overnight, first republic bank is no more. the company took the bank over the weekend and sold it to jpmorgan. scott mcgrew joins me here. you say for first republic customers it's going to be business as usual. >> not even a hiccup. they were first republic customers and this morning they're chase customers. it's as easy as that. federal regulators took control of the san francisco regional bank over the weekend. this is the second largest bank failure in u.s. history, and it comes a few days after first republic said it saw a billion in withdrawals from nervous customers following the failure of another regional bank, silicon valley bank. chase the one of america's strongest banks, well familiar with first republic. chase ceo jamie dimon had worked with other banks on a rescue plan depositing hundreds of millions in first republic to help it out, but it didn't work.
5:04 am
he said this morning, our government invited us and others to step up, and we did. >> so all the deposits in first republic are safe? >> 100%. accounts under a quarter million are guaranteed by the fdic. deposits over a quarter million, not guaranteed, but they're certainly safe. it's jpmorgan we're talking about. >> huge. >> it's a big bank. >> but people are able to go to first republic/chase now, and if they want to go withdraw money? >> this morning when the bank opens up it will still say first republic, but go in there and do banking as normal. i used to be long time ago a washington mutual customer, and one day i woke up and it was chase during the financial crisis. >> exactly. so if you have a home loan, it gets taken over by a different company, you'll get some new paperwork. >> exactly. >> we'll continue to follow. big development this morning. thanks. 5:04 this morning, and developing out of texas this

morning, authorities are offering a reward this morning, this is after -- an $80,000 reward to find a man who killed five people, including an 8-year-old boy. this happened in the houston metropolitan area. law enforcement saying on friday francisco oropesa's neighbors asked him to stop shooting assault rifles so their beans could sleep and that's when he started shooting at them. we have new pictures of the suspect. we do have new pictures of the suspect. they are now saying that they have leads surrounding the area. now, as more than 250 officers searched the area, they say they are shocked and pain is really settling in. >> my heart -- is with this 8-year-old little boy. i don't care if he was here
5:06 am
legally, i don't care if he was here illegally. >> a vigil was held last night in that area for five victims. starting today, san francisco will have more officers patrolling the streets, but they won't all be san francisco police officers. >> "today in the bay"'s kris sanchez joins us. this is all to try to fight the drug crisis. >> we know fentanyl is ravaging people in the city and beyond, and so the focus will be patrolling neighborhoods with the highest rates of overdose deaths. those are the tenderloin and the south of market areas, and that's where people will see chp officers as part of a joint effort directed by governor gavin newsom. they will be working in the background gathering intelligence on drug rings and cartels operating in the city and bringing that fentanyl into the bay area. some opponents say this will disproportionately impact people of color and people who are poor, but mayor london breed
5:07 am
says this should better connect them with services. >> substance use is a public health issue, and so we would much prefer a public health response. we have a situation where it's really difficult for people to access treatment. >> this is different. this is program service, second chance opportunities, but also accountability. and what's been missing has been accountability, and that's what this is all about. >> san francisco police say that they seized more than 85 pounds of fentanyl in just the first four months of this year. so district attorney brooke jenkins expects that this extra force will need to more significant prosecutions, and, again, the goal is not to go for those low-level offenders, the people using the drugs. it's going after the big fish who are bringing it in. >> hopefully they have a chance to tackle it, put a dent in it, definitely. thank you so much. 5:07. happening today, governor gavin newsom expected to deliver an update surrounding our climate
5:08 am
in crisis. he is scheduled to visit a renewable fuels facility in southern california. he says his trip is meant to highlight the state's transition to clean fuels. last week regulators passed new rules to ban diesel trucks by 2036. it is the first of its kind in the world. yosemite national park fully reopened earlier than expected after flooding concerns forced closures. the melting snowpack sending water rushing into rivers and over yosemite falls. forecasters expected the merced river to overflow its banks over the weekend but that never happened. for now, the risk of flooding has passed. park rangers are still urging all visitors to stay away from all of the raging waters out there. beautiful sights to see. meteorologist kari hall is here with us right now. i know that we're getting a pause on the warmer weather that we've been experiencing. >> it's still a little warmer compared to what we like to see with all the sierra snow, but
5:09 am
there's also going to be rain on top of that, which could cause a greater snowmelt with temperatures above freezing. but we could see slow for the upper elevations, so kind of a mixed bag. for people who were waiting for the weekend to go and hike around yosemite, well, the next few days, the weather is going to be pretty dicey here with temperatures reaching into the upper 50s and then those overnight temperatures in the 30s with, also, the possibility of some thunderstorms moving through. we're also going to see big changes here in the bay area as the storm system moves through, and for the next few days we're going to see off and on showers, a chance of thunderstorms, and the sierra could see about 4 to 12 inches of snow through the next several days. so a lot of big changes here compared to the 80s and 90s we had just a few days ago. i'm going to talk more about this, along with a timeline of the rain in a few minutes. mike has a look at where we can find lower gas prices. >> not as dramatic as the change
5:10 am
with the weather. we have no change for our best, santa clara still leads our board, $3.91 a gallon at the platinum gas on washington street. that's holding from last week. now, in mill valley the arco on redwood highway, $4.23. concord super stop on willow pass road, $4.25. that's some of the reports that come in from all of you on gasbuddy. on the roadways, everything is moving pretty well. the update from the chp, they had managed to clear all lanes southbound 880, now back at speed heading toward 101. no major injuries, but there were a number of vehicles that had to be cleared. the rest of the south bay looking nice, but we have a crash 680 near berryessa and 101 at tuli, the off ramp may be affected. >> thank you. so first monday of may means glitz and glamour in the big apple. still ahead this morning, the

final preparations under way for tonight's met gala and a look at the coveted guest list of this year's theme, as well as how you can watch the procession on the red carpet. >> some apple watch users say it is about time the company overhauling the look of its apple watch. why you may find yourself saying what's old is new again. >> and a carpool after the break, we're going to talk about that surprising guest one passenger had during her ride share. >> you've got to stick around. it's crazy. >> and before we head to break, i want to want my lovely kids a very happy birthday. hard to believe, but the triplets are 14 now. i don't know where time goes. >> they're as tall as you. >> they are. i think most people know that's pretty easy. don't forget, you can always find me on instagram, twitter and facebook. i love to hear from you. st with us. st with us. aya - life is uncertain.

good monday morning. the time is 5:13, as we take a look at palo alto. it's 54 degrees as you step out the door. also, still pretty windy. watch out for any fallen debris that may have come down overnight with high winds. it's going to be a cool day, so wear that jacket. we'll get a look at the rest of the week in a few minutes. >> the roadways are clear for 880, the earlier alert has
5:15 am
completely cleared. south 101 there may still be a crash. so it's not affecting the off ramp. it may be affecting the lanes. we'll track that and more coming up. good morning. very happy monday to you. futures are flat, after san francisco's first republic bank was seized by federal regulators and sold to jpmorgan. now, we talked about this earlier in the newscast. our pete suratos is at one of the branches. he's got a live report coming up later. shares in the electric car rivian got a slight boost, but they're still down 95% from their highs. the fed meets this week to talk about interest rate hikes, could be one of the last considering all the economic rough waters. fed rates are already at a 16-year high. and today is may 1st, the day that a new fee structure takes effect at fannie mae and freddie

mac. people are complaining those with good credit scores are getting penalized, while those with lower credit scores are benefiting and it's not entirely wrong. fees will go up slightly for some and down for others. it is a complex matrix of credit scores and the amount of your down payment. they have a charter to help americans get into homes and so the well to do appear to be picking up the tab on this. it's not at direct as that, that we're taking money from the good credit people and giving it to the poor. that's kind of what's happening. >> it is confusing. this is spread out over the course of the mortgage. >> right. any sort of fees that you are paying is going to be a 15 to 30-year. you shouldn't see a huge effect. the one thing i am worried about about people on the internet is, well, i'm just not going to pay my bills and lower my credit
5:17 am
score. that would be foolish. >> there are other things you might want to buy. >> that's not a good financial plan. >> good credit is so important. >> it is. you never know when you're going to need it. thanks, scott. this is new this morning, apple is set to give your smart watch a big overhaul. it is now making the widget a core part of the device. this is after launching the original watch back in 2015, in favor of highlighting notifications and multitasking. bloomberg reports the redesign will allow users to scroll through a series of different widgets rather than having them launch on those apps. trending this morning, final preparations are under way in new york for the met gala. crews on the other upper east side have been working all weekend to prepare for fashion's biggest night out. this year's dress code is in honor of carl, a tribute to the late fashion icon, karl lagerfeld. nbc bay area will bring you the glitz and glamour direct.
5:18 am
don't miss new york live presents the met gala, today, this afternoon, starting at 3:00. you can watch it on roku, peacock, or xumo. >> i have a few shorts. >> we'll coordinate. trending this morning, video you have to see to believe, and you might even find it pretty unbelievable. watch it. >> it's a fast friendship between that uber passenger and a crow with an obvious appetite. take a look. >> oh, my god. oh, my god! >> you saw the crow mid-air, grabbing what the passenger is telling "today" is a piece of a biscuit held out of the window. she said the crow first showed up about the time her uber driver arrived. she was in ireland dealing with a flat tire, which is why she had to call uber. she tells "today" the driver and bird apparently have a type of
5:19 am
long history there. the driver normally feeds the bird, but clearly the crow is now branching out to new avenues. she says that the whole thing immediately made her day ten times better. >> oh, my gosh. that is amazing. crows are some of the smartest birds and they are the one bird that can actually identify a person. >> oh. >> that's why you hear sometimes when a crow is not happy with someone. >> exactly. isn't that interesting? >> thank you, i'm out. >> the scarecrow itself shouldn't be that affected. >> they're really smart. they used to land on my brother's head all the time. we have a history of loving animals in my family. >> she's got a squirrel story. we'll tell you about that another time. >> i'll share that one another time. my little squirrel is probably nestled up warm. >> it's cold and windy.
5:20 am
it's going to be pretty gusty throughout the day, too, as we go into the next several days. big changes ahead, and now we're seeing a clear view this morning, but those high winds will continue. we may also see some showers moving in as early as late this evening, with a better chance of rain and possibly even some thunderstorms tomorrow. in the sierra, there will be snow at times this week, all the way down to about 4,000 feet. let's get a look at our high temperatures today. hayward reaching 59 degrees, only 62 in martinez. so just think about a couple days ago when we were near record highs, in the upper 80s and even some low 90s. today fairfield will reach 64 degrees and 60 in novato. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen showing slight rain chances the next few days, and we're going to see that continue into tomorrow with highs reaching the low 60s all across the bay area. by wednesday, it's starting to warm up just slightly, reaching
5:21 am
into the mid-60s for san jose, upper 60s for fairfield, and we'll also see upper 60s for parts of the north bay. as we go hour-by-hour, not expecting much rain today. later this evening, rain chances start to go up, especially for the north bay, with some spotty showers and possibly even some thunderstorms where you see the brighter colors, the yellows and oranges, which indicates much more intensity. that's going to be coming in during the overnight hours as the system kind of winds its way down the coastline. as we go into tuesday, there still may be hit-or-miss showers, but not everyone is going to see rain. and then going into wednesday, it starts to taper off. so between now and wednesday into thursday, we could see the potential of about a half inch of rain for many spots, especially san francisco on southward, there could be lighter amounts of rainfall actually this time around for the north bay. so we're going to see off and on gusty winds and the chance of a
5:22 am
few spotty showers, maybe some thunderstorms early tomorrow. by wednesday, it's starting to taper off, and much of the rest of the week is looking cool and windy. we're going to stay in the 60s throughout the next seven days, so not seeing the temperatures change too much more. mike, you're saying the drivers may have an impact from the wind. >> possibly. it's enough to register on our maps. the road weather index talks about conditions for drivers and when you see this pale yellow, that's not fog, this is wind. windy through the oakland hills, through the san francisco side as well. it doesn't really have as much impact through the city, but may get you as you're coming off of the bay bridge. a smooth drive through the south bay, where earlier alerts have cleared. 101 looked just fine past tully, we have the closure coming through sunol and that's scheduled. you do see the camera trembling a bit so there may be gusty

it's 5:25 right now. may is mental health awareness month, and a recent cdc report shows our nation's group are in crisis. >> more than 40% of teens and preteens reported feeling sad or hopeless and nearly a quarter of kids say they've seriously considered suicide. that's why a spokesperson says the ad council started the sound it out campaign. so here is a clip from one of the ads that highlights the importance of talking about emotions and mental health with children. it also gives those tools to have for those conversations. >> we really need for our parents and our caregivers to have that relational connection with them so that they're able to voice what they're feeling. because we know their emotional well-being is just as important as their physical well-being. >> experts say there are signs you should watch for in your children, including changes in their eating or sleeping habits. also, those mood swings.
5:27 am
and we also say using substances can be a warning sign for you as well as a decline in school performance. >> really keeping those conversations going, even earlier than before you need them. it's so important. 5:26 right now. coming up next, the top stories we're following today, including, believe it or not, tracking some incoming rain. meteorologist kari hall has got a look at our forecast as we start a new week. >> plus, mike inouye is tracking our monday morning commute. >> reporter: another major bay area bank is sold. the third major bank to go down in less than two months. i'll have the details coming up. >> reporter: school is on here in oakland as teachers hold off on a strike, for now. the official announcemt en

control and what customers can expect when they show up at local branches today. this is "today in the bay." a lot going on overnight. good morning. 5:30 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. always got the commute on our mind, but before you get in the car you've got to get through the forecast. meteorologist kari hall has a look at that. >> you want to know what to wear because it's not what you were wearing at the end of last week. it's windy, it's cool, and we are seeing the cold front dip across the state. as of now, it's not bringing a lot of rain. there will be rain chances over the next few days. as you're stepping out in santa rosa, it's breezy and 50 degrees, mostly cloudy. notice these temperatures stay mostly in the 50s throughout the morning and we won't get as much sunshine as yesterday. today it's only going to reach 59 in fremont and dublin and 60
5:32 am
in novato, santa rosa reaching 66 degrees and upper 50s in san francisco. this is what we can expect throughout the next several days temperature-wise, but there will be some changes as far as when we could see some rain coming back. so i'll have more on that. mike, you were tracking flashing lights. >> yeah, the last few minutes things may have changed a bit. we have traffic flowing not as steadily through the bay bridge. i thought it may be these flashing lights, but it's just a change in the volume. we'll see it build. the flashing lights don't appear to be causing an issue at the toll plaza itself, but as you come off of the maze and the berkeley curve, they will object the right side. 880 over-crossing is moving smoothly. we'll watch the impact as the volume starts to build. we see a little slowing past that, heading toward the incline. that does indicate a bigger volume and the metering lights are likely to be turned on in the next five, seven minutes. a little slowing for highway 37 and highway 4.
5:33 am
so there's your monday build, starting early as we typically see in the east bay. the rest of the east bay heading south is fine through the castro valley y. back over to you. >> thanks, mike. breaking overnight for you, another major bank goes down, and is taken over by federal regulators. and after bids from several banks, first republic has been sold. "today in the bay"'s pete suratos joins us live from outside of the mill valley location with the details on that sale. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you. yeah, france bay's first republic bank taken over by regulators over the weekend, but has officially been sold to jpmorgan chase. this marks the third major bank to go down in less than two months. at the time of the sale first republic bank held about $229 billion in assets, so that makes it the second largest bank failure in u.s. history. so it does surpass silicon valley bank, which collapsed back in march. now, as far as the issues there,
5:34 am
they say that deposits dropped by 40% in the first quarter, so people switching to safer banks with better returns following the failures of svb and signature bank. now, first republic was carrying many fixed loans with long-term interest rates. now, some experts do say it is a good move for customers with a big bank like jpmorgan chase coming in to hopefully stabilize the situation. all bank offices will reopen today as branches of jpmorgan chase, we don't expect any sign changes right away. but customers shouldn't expect an interruption to services. reporting live, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> you wake up this morning and there's a bank change everywhere you look. pete, thank you. it's 5:34 right now. families across oakland waking up this morning facing tremendous uncertainty. classes are going on as planned today, but it's still possible
5:35 am
teachers will soon agree to walk off the job. "today in the bay"'s bob redell joins us live outside oakland high school this morning. what is the union saying at this point? >> reporter: well, they are supposed to make an official statement later this afternoon to announce whether or not they would go on strike. but right now classes are on at oakland high behind me and other schools here within the oakland unified school district. you'll recall, however, last week that the union that represents the teachers within oakland unified voted to authorize a strike starting today if they wanted to. but so far, they are holding off on that. this as both the teachers union and oakland unified continue to meet and negotiate over a new contract for the teachers. both sides were at the bargaining table for hours yesterday afternoon, over the weekend teachers gathering preparing for a possible strike by hand painting signs and banners. educators want more resources for students with special needs,
5:36 am
bilingual programs, as well as a 22% raise. the district came back with a tentative 10% raise proposal, as well as a one-time $5,000 payment, but teachers say their demands go beyond better pay. they're also asking for facility upgrades, including repairs at a school with a rat infestation and ceiling tile replacement so they don't collapse on a class. on friday we spoke with a teacher from oakland high who was not optimistic that a strike could be avoided. >> i am really worried that they're going to come up with something that's not good enough and teachers will feel pressured to vote yes on a ta, because we don't want to strike. i've got 50 pages left in the novel we're reading with my students, we're struggling and scrambling to find places off campus to do graduation, to figure out how we're going to do
5:37 am
ap. >> reporter: last week oakland unified superintendent released a video statement. she says the district's current offer for the first time in decades would put teachers compensation at above average compared to other teachers in the region. and that a strike would be inappropriate and unnecessary, since both sides are still talking and are not at an impasse. the district did send out a note on friday letting parents and teachers know that schools again will be open today. reporting live here in oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks for all the details, bob. 5:36 right now. san francisco police say no arrests have been made in a deadly shooting south of market about 24 hours ago. it happened near 5th and folsolm street. the victim has not been identified and no other details have been released. oakland police are not commenting on last night's sideshow activity that took over some streets. here is some video on international boulevard near

fruitvale. it also shows some participants driving the wrong way on international. then a short time later, sideshow activity led to a broken fire hydrant, and h heres more activity for you around nightfall along 5th street. according to witnesses, police say they never intervened at any of the locations, despite a department tweet earlier in the day about adding resources and stepping up sideshow enforcement. well, we're on the hard floor this morning. here we go. warriors, boy, they pulled it off, but they really don't have time to celebrate. dub nation and everybody else still buzzing this morning. steph curry went where no player has ever gone, sending the warriors into the second round of the nbc playoffs. >> our guy scoring 50 points in game seven as the warriors knock out the kings from sacramento. steph scoring the most points ever in a postseason game, and he really came alive in the second half of this, because
5:39 am
he's scoring 30 points there as the warriors went from 2 down to winning that game by 20. now, following the game he gave credit to the entire team coming together when it really mattered. >> you focus on the details, how you're trying to execute, you trust everybody out on the floor. we had great energy off our bench. everybody who played came in with the right intentions. there was a lot of conversation and communication and togetherness on the bench, which is huge for us. >> that's what an experienced championship team looks like. for the fans gathered outside of chase center, yeah, they could not have gone better. now, the warriors move from the kings to king james, lebron and the lakers tip off their best of seven against the dubs tomorrow night right here at tomorrow at chase center. >> oh, my gosh. a little less than four hours from now, at 9:30 this morning, warriors second round tickets go on sale.
5:40 am
season ticket holders have the first crack, then at noon chase card holder presale starts, at 4:00 this afternoon, any remaining tickets will become available to the general public. game one tips off tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m., then game two on thursday, also at chase center. games three and four take place in los angeles. >> this matchup is going to be everything, right? >> across town and trying to keep it local. >> i bet it's all games, too. we'll see. they're going to fight for it. >> i wish i could fight for a ticket. >> i just told you, you can get them. >> no. [ laughter ] >> and you've got to work the next morning, too. marcus, you all right? >> might be a little tired. >> let me tell you what the weather will be like for tomorrow night, if you're going to the chase center, well, it sometimes rains in northern california. and when the lakers come in, we're going to see scattered
5:41 am
showers at the chase center late tomorrow evening. it's only going to be 66 degrees. so definitely some cooler temperatures. and we may need the umbrellas off and on throughout the day tomorrow. so just a heads-up, if you're going to be standing outside waiting to go in, it may be a little soggy. and we could start to see rain coming in later this evening, and it's mostly for the north bay tonight, and a lot of it coming in during the overnight hours as we go into the day tomorrow it's going to be hit or miss with even a chance of thunderstorms. so we're going to talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. mike, you were saying there was a traffic break. >> there was. we missed seeing it on the air, we also missed the backup. it was a short backup, a burst of traffic as they held the flashing lights. there you go, over here. we have now smooth-flowing traffic once again as we get ready for the metering lights to be turned on. we see the slower drive averaging to a slower approach. nothing dramatic from the eastshore freeway heading west. tonight you will have the

closure like we had a couple days last week. tonight they're closing off 580 to 80 east, that means out of oakland and into berkeley, overnight. the closure will happen about 10:00. watch the surface streets. you can use telegraph and there will be signs posted. coming in for the morning, smooth drive, predictable. smart train is adjusting service and expanding friday into saturday, but still you'll see signs. back to you. >> thanks, mike. hollywood studios is facing a lot of behind-the-scenes suspense right now. ahead on "today in the bay," writers may be poised to strike in a matter of hours. the latest this morning on the 11th hour negotiations and the impact it may have on hundreds of works now in production. >> and cities as far north as chicago or new york say they are chicago or new york say they are dealing with a crisis of

those bridges, no problems reported for the bay bridge. but we do have pesky metering lights active. westbound 80 slows as you're coming out of oakland and then up the incline toward san francisco. everything moves steadily. we'll show you how the build impacts the rest of the east bay. it's a quarter until 6:00 right now. huge pressure is mounting this morning on washington to do something about the growing number of immigrants at the border. >> scott mcgrew is joining us now. scott, it's may 1st, but a lot of people are looking at may 11th. >> it's going to be a big day and it's ten days away. good morning to you. in ten days, if everything goes according to plan, we will see an end to the title 42 covid restrictions put in place at the border during the pandemic by then president trump and extended by president biden. they expire because our government says the pandemic is over. now, there's a lot of misunderstanding, in latin american communities about all

this all means, and it's causing a huge influx of new immigrants at the southern border, even bigger than past months. here is the mayor of el paso, texas. >> they've come in really with a false pretense that there will be open borders starting on may 11th and anyone that's already in the united states will no longer be required to have proper documentation, and that is an untrue statement. >> now, he's right, absolutely untrue. but we have seen this before. rumors deliberately spreading lies to drum up business and it's working. our chuck todd asked the head of homeland security about the crisis on this sunday morning's "meet the press." >> shelters are overwhelmed, the cities of chicago and new york are already overwhelmed. what's may 12th going to look like if we're already overwhelmed before the expiration of title 42? >> a few things, chuck. first of all, this is a really tough challenge and has been, as

we all recognize for years and years. we are seeing a level of migration not just at our southern border, but throughout the hemisphere that is unprecedented. it is the greatest migration since world war two. the president on day one delivered a solution. he delivered immigration reform legislation that we had hoped congress would act on swiftly. they haven't. >> that's correct. congress has complained about, but not acted on immigration for years. but it's unlikely a change in the law right now would have any effect on this current crisis. these next few days are unique. the expiration of a pandemic, a rash of misinformation, and a lot of people yearning to cross that border. >> crisis of a different form here, scott. drama unfolding in hollywood right now. this is where production on hundreds of movies and tv shows may come to a grinding halt. this is at midnight. that's because, barring the

company. we still pay for our tickets to get in. i know one little boy, not so little anymore, he wants to see it again. >> oh, really? >> he loved it. he said, it's my favorite movie of all time. >> that's a good endorsement. >> exactly. let's talk about the changes that we have in weather, because our weekend started out warm and sunny, and then turned windy and cool. and it's still pretty gusty out there. we're going to continue to see breezy winds, especially as you're coming across bridges and some of those hills around the bay area, and the temperatures only reach into the 50s and 60s today. now, we're not expecting a lot of rain today, even though it may be misting a little in some spots. we'll have a better chance of rain tomorrow and possibly even some isolated thunderstorms. for the sierra, we're going to see snow coming back and dropping down to levels of about 4,000 feet, so let's talk about this system coming in, with some spotty showers late tonight at

10:30. north bay getting in on the chance of rain, we'll see the darker greens t yellows that indicate heavier rain, and then going into the overnight hours it's moving down the coastline into san francisco, as well as parts of the south bay. there will be parts of the bay area that only see rain for a few minutes as it kind of slides down the coast, but produces some very unsettled weather throughout the day tomorrow, and some off and on rain and cool temperatures will continue. we're still looking at even some slight rain chances going into wednesday as well. so between now and wednesday, there's the potential that we could see an inch of rain in half moon bay. the higher rainfall totals will be near the coast and in the santa cruz mountains. as you make your way inland, it could be much less, but the north bay may see a few hundred dregts of an inch of rain. temperatures cooler than last week, we were in the 80s, hitting 90 degrees.

over the next few days we're only talking about 60s and the cool weather sticks around throughout the week with rain chances on the front end of our workweek. as we get closer to the weekend, it does look mostly cloudy, but only reaching into the upper 60s. so definitely this week we are back to early spring, maybe even late winter type weather. mike, you're seeing slowing in the south bay. >> this is typical for this time of day. northbound 101, we had a lot of traffic, this first burst, we're sorting the speeds out. we may get up to the speed limit before it kicks in again. there's already slowing north 101 just past the airport. we're tracking the trend. so far, everything looks pretty normal through the area. over here at the berkeley curve, volume builds heading toward the bay bridge. others heading through the maze, no problems in both directions through the maze. we do have the builds for the bay bridge, highway 37 and the speeds also continue lower for highway 4. back to you. well, the search is still on
