disappointment from the warriors loss in l.a. could be felt in san francisco. they were away from chase center, but the fans were there watching game three of the western conference semifinals on the jumbo tron. alyssa gourd was there too for the roller coaster of emotions. >> reporter: the game three watch party started out with such optimism. from kids to the dogs, to the lawn chair viewers, the excitement was everywhere. >> just the atmosphere. it's the camaraderie, it's the noise, it's just being here and enjoying dub nation together. >> reporter: many told us they were there for the first time. >> it's still so nice to be around dub fans, no matter how far they have come, whether from the east bay, around the peninsula or from san francisco. >> reporter: the cheers gave way
7:03 am
to agony, when the game finished with the dubs in a 30-point deficit, you could hear the frustration. >> i'm not very happy at all. >> reporter: but warriors fans refuse to give up hope. >> they're still going to take the next game and then will win the series. >> they win win it all, 100%. this happens every time. they will win it all. >> reporter: and they will continue to invite fans to watch the games on the jumbotron for as long as the warriors playoff campaign continues. they recommend you register in advance. alyssa gourd, "today in the bay." chaos and tragedy are unfolding in texas after a gunman opened fire in a crowded texas outlet mall, killing several people. it happened yesterday in allen, just north of dallas. this is video from above.

the law enforcement evacuating the entire shopping plaza. the mall has about 120 stores. hundreds of people witnessed the shooting. one of them happened to be a police officer who ran towards the gunfire. >> one of our officers was on an unrelated call at the out let mall. he heard the gunshots and went to the shots and neutralized the shooter. the governor has pledged all the support that the state has. it goes without saying that our deepest sympathies are with the families. >> we transported nine victims to area trauma facility. those are the ones that the allen fire department transported. there may be others transported in private vehicles. but those are the ones that we know of. >> we have learn nine people have died, including the shooter. >> everybody was frantic. i ran out to see what was happening.
7:05 am
>> a lot of people were like hiding. they told me to move out, and i kept on telling them, i'm looking for my daughter. >> investigators believe the gunman acted alone. the atf says canine officers are working to locate shell casings to trace the firearm or firearms involved in the attack. we continue to bring you updates even when we're off air. our team is posting updates as we get them. go to our website, nbcbayarea.com, and click the link at the top of the page. in california, police are looking for a shooter responsible for gunfire at a house party in chico that left a teen dead and several others hurt yesterday morning. officers found six people shot. paramedics rushed them to the hospital where a 17-year-old girl died. the other five people that were hurt are now stable. one witness was there helping

>> assembly membera carter is calling on cal trans to explain why they're shut down. >> we just wash to make sure decisions are being made because of policy and not fears and stereotypes they fear what may have happened because of their impression of the population that celebrates cinco de mayo. >> we reached out to caltrans for comment but haven't heard back. in a statement on friday announcing the closures, police said while the majority of police who visit downtown san jose during cinco de mayo are

welcome back, everyone. this morning we are talking politics with nbc news political director and moderator of "meet the press" chuck todd. let's talk about the supreme court, which has taken a real confidence hit with more allegations coming to light about financial dealings and relationships that may have been disclosed by certain justices who then chose not to. so the other controversy started off with justice clarence thomas, but now we have other members of the court caught up, as well, including liberal justice sonia sotomayor. can the court just continue sticking its hand in the sand and moving forward like nothing has happened? >> i hope not. because, you know, the court's lack of legitimacy right now, that's how you sort of undermine
7:13 am
the fabric of this country. we've already sort of destroyed the perceptions of congress, the presidency. losing the judiciary branch would be another level all together. look, i think this is incumbent on the chief justice. he's the head of this branch of government. i don't think there's a law constitutionally that congress can pass to force these justices to fall under the same ethical guidelines that every other federal worker has to fall under, except those justices and the elected president and vice president of the united states. chief justice roberts can come out and say no, the nine justices are going to abide by the same ethical rules that the rest of the federal judiciary has to abide by, that when there are questions they'll take a review under the judicial committee that reviews cases where there are questions of conflicts of interest. but i think the silence is only
7:14 am
undermining the credibility even more. it looks like they want to avoid scrutiny all together. >> yeah, it doesn't seem to stop people from commenting on it either. let's shift to senator diane feinstein feinstein. he's missed dozens of votes due to illness, but she's refused to resign despite being called to step down. she released a statement saying she is coming back, but didn't offer a timeline. what does her continued absence in washington mean for the democrats? >> well, look, it certainly tied their hands a little bit. anybody that has considered a partisan, a very liberal nominee is probably not going to get out of committee, because it's the way the rules work. the democrats have a one-vote advantage in that committee. if it's 11-11, it cannot move to
7:15 am
the floor of the senate for approval, even though democrats have the advantage there. so it does tie their hands a little bit on this front. but look, we go back to the same issue here. i don't know who is looking out for senator feinstein. there is -- she is estranged from some key members of her family. it's not clear whether anybody is looking out for her best interest. it feeling as though people are looking out for their own best interest. maybe there's staffers that enjoy running a senate office. neighbor there's, for whatever the reason, but look, this is damaging her legacy, and it's sad to watch, because she is -- she's one of the important icons of the 20th century in the history of california. >> chuck todd, live for us in washington. chuck, thanks. well, if you missed this morning's"mt the press," whichired at 6:00 a.m., you can watch the show online and streaming on peacock. coming up in about 30
7:16 am
minutes from now, we'll talk to nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston and look at how the ethical collapse for the u.s. supreme court and if the public's opinion on the judges could be detrimental in the coming months. they come into the final six lengths. it's going to be made to win the kentucky derby. >> you watched it right here on nbc bay area. a long shot horse won the kentucky derby. mage was making his fourth start with a 16-1 shot. seven horses died during the week at churchill downs, including a hopeful "wild on ice." the deaths have raised new concerns about the treatment of horses. new this morning, the mtv

7:18 am
the world. they are excited to tour in the u.s. after being away for several years. >> four, five years, that's more than the olympics, so it's been more than ever since we last went to the u.s. we're really stoked to go back there. california is one of my favorite states in the usa. the vibe that the cities have, the atmosphere that the cities have, it's so beautiful. i can't wait to see san francisco again. >> i bet that mask came in handy during covid. the band will begin their tour on may 14th. tickets can be purchased online. well, if you're looking for activities to do, we have you covered in this weekend's calendar. mike, what do you got going on? >> good morning. today, we're going to keep it lower tech, like this old timy experience called sturgeon's mill. it's not just a mill, but it's a

full-on museum and students learn about the milling process, black smithing and draft horses, some goats are thrown in there too. and from the mill to the hills if you want. go to alameda county for the second day of the hillside festival. we're looking at the el cerrito trail trekkers are putting this on. even a haiku hike for groups of five -- seven, no, just five. no, that's a haiku joke. and let's go to contra costa county. we'll jump into the fie day of bring back the natives garden tour. we're talking about the plants native to this area, with plants that are meant to be there, noninvasive species, and there are examples of cleaner and greener way of living chld and check back with me tomorrow
7:20 am
morning right here on "today in the bay." >> are you a big gardener? >> i have a couple of house plants since i live in an apartment building, but i like to take them out for sunshine. i give them plenty of water. >> keeping those alive. speaking of plants, are they going to get some water out any time soon? >> they're going to get some water the second half of today into tomorrow for sure. but only in some spots of the bay area. i'll show you where. let's take it outside and show you current conditions out there in dublin. a little bit of a cloudy start and chillier compared to where we were yesterday. 51 in dublin. 53 in mountain view. look as we go into the north bay. 42 in santa rosa. so that lack of cloud cover as we make our way into the north bay is the result of these cold temperatures. beautiful live look out there right now over the presidio. drier day today. you will need the sunglasses as
7:21 am
we go into the second half of the day. however, don't put them away quite yet, because we do have showers returning late tonight into tomorrow morning's commute. before we finally start to see the return oh of that spring sunshine. so what's happening out there right now? we have that sort system from yesterday that's pushed into the central part of the country. however, we already have our low pressure system that will start to move in later tonight and impact our morning commute for tomorrow. as far as the morning goes, we still hang on to that cloud cover today. so sweater weather into our early parts of sunday, but then clearing and drying out as we go into 1:30 this afternoon. might still hang out to some drizzle out along santa cruz and cloud cover in gilroy. but enjoy, give the plants some of that sunlight. temperatures today, 60 in san francisco. places that will feel warmer today, compared to yesterday, but still a little below average. areas like concord, 68, as well
7:22 am
as livermore and san jose. 64 for you in scotts valley. now into the start of our workweek, here is that low pressure system. that will start to impact our neighbors to the northcom monday morning. i'm going to give you a tighter look for the bay area. come 4:00 tomorrow morning, taking on the roads bright and early, we'll see showers along the 101 in the north bay. maybe a few sprinkles along the coastline in santa cruz and half moon bay. otherwise, staying dry and warming up. look at our temperature outlook for the text couple of days. once we go into the second half of the week, the colors you see on the screen there, indicating temperatures will go into above average territory. so the seven-day forecast, a little hiccup before we get the 70s and 80s. >> so be prepared for that commute home tomorrow. >> early morning commute. still much more ahead. coming up, the warriors blowout
