now. the city is symbolic from both sides. what do we know about where the fighting stands now? >> good morning, frances the leader of the wagner group on saturday said his troops completely conquered he announced that on telegram, a claim that seems to have been backed by russia's defense ministry as well as vladimir putin in a statement congratulated the troops for liberating the city. a claim that was denied by president zelenskyy in hiroshima in japan where as you mentioned he was attending the g7 summit, saying there are still ukrainian troops in the city but he also admitted a city so destroyed and devastated that it reminded him of what the city of hiroshima looked like in the aftermath of the atomic bomb attack by the u.s. in 1945 frances? >> ukraine is expected to launch a big counter-offensive. did zelenskyy give any clues than at the g7 >> well, while he was in japan,

he said he could not share any tactical views of ukraine's military but there is no doubt that as you mentioned, a decision by the u.s. to allow its weapon to provide f-16 is a major boost to ukraine and kyiv, a president hailed by president zelenskyy in japan as a historic decision ukraine has long since the start of the war asked for fighter jets to counteract the operations by the russia to protect its skies. so far the u.s. allies have not given to them because they were afraid that ukraine will attack russia in its own territory. but president biden during a press conference over the weekend said he received flat assurance by president zelenskyy that they will only use them to fight russians inside ukraine's territory. it would take months to train ukrainian pilots to fly f-16s. but once they receive them, that will be a major boost to its counter-offensive. >> claudio lavanga, thank you.
