in the skasies and on the roadsi a moment but let's begin with angie lassman tracking the all-important weekend forecast how is it looking? i'm so happy to tell you guys i have mostly good news when it comes to the travel forecast if you are trying to get to last-minute destinations. we have mostly green, san francisco, illinois, chicago, detroit, all looking good. we will be watching the atlanta airport for delays potentially because we have a lot of rain thanks to an area sitting offshore of the carolinas, bringing days of heavy rain for folks in the carolina, up and down the atlanta and even into the ohio valley. we have gusty winds leaving us with high surf and dangerous conditions on the water, too here is how it plays out for us as we get through the weekend. this is the saturday forecast. you can see the bands of heavy rain leading to torrential rainfall for folks there we will watch for flooding potential to remember i said the ohio valley,

rampant delays and cancellations, largely in part because of staffing and crew shortages. today the faa is forecasting some 37,000 flights and the airlines are saying look,, we got this, we are prepared for the rush today as we know is expected to be one of the busiest travel days in recent years but look at the numbers. according to aaa some 40 million expected to travel more than 50 miles from the home, an estimated 3.4 million catching a flight and 2 million going by rail or bus. it is no secret so many people are choosing to hit the road with gas about a dollar cheaper than this time last year at the airport transportation officials are taking somewhat of a victory lap as the cancellation rate has remained about 1%, under 1% i should say nationwide really good news there you have to take a little bit of the bad with the good because as we are looking this morning some delays are starting to creep up at some of the nation's major airports as i said so far things looking

with house speaker kevin mccarthy's team. while progress has been made and the key negotiators have called the talks candid and productive there are major sticking points here republicans want stricter work requirements for some federal benefits while democrats say it would plunge the americans who rely on them into poverty. another hurdle, democrats want the eventual agreement to lift the debt ceiling for two years the republicans are pushing for a shorter extension with spending cuts and caps in place. look, there's still incredible risk to waiting until the last minute to raise the borrowing limit including a possible credit downgrade for the u.s., which is what happened when a similar standoff took place in 2011 kristin. >> yes, indeed, it did monica, of course, once there is a deal in place there's still a lot of hard work to be done. what is it going to take to get it through such a deeply divided congress >> reporter: yeah, and time is of the essence and urgency here really is key because of how long it could take to become
