round up the votes. now just five days away. some hope on the horizon. now a compromise headed to the house floor today. but the 99-page bill which suspends the nation's borrowing limit entirely until 2025 in exchange for spending cuts and other conservative priorities is running into roadblocks on the right. more than 30 house republicans say they will vote against the measure for not cutting spending deeply enough. >> not one republican should vote for this deal. it is a bad deal. >> reporter: in a narrowly divided congress, this means democrats need to convince their side to get onboard and republicans can't afford any more defections. as of now, both sides think it will pass the house tonight. student loan payments suspended since 2020 will restart and work requirements for snap benefits

a lot of turbulence. intercepts are not uncommon. i was onboard for one a couple months ago when the chinese jet was so close to us i could actually see the pilot. but the pentagon says this sort of behavior is unnecessary, and they're warning it could cause an accident. u.s. spy planes in the region are a violation of china's sovereignty, and they will continue to safeguard it. >> all this is coming as china just declined a request for a high-profile meeting by the united states, so what does that say about the state of relations between our countries? >> reporter: yeah. secretary of defense lloyd austin wanted to meet china's minister of national defense on the sidelines of a security forum in singapore. china turned him down, saying the u.s. lacks sincerity mainly because lee was sanctioned by the trump administration in 2018

apartment building. it comes amid protests of transparency after officials said they believed everyone was out to the point they were ready to begin demolition on this building. only then you saw the video there to backtrack and rescue a woman seen waives out her window monday night. prior to that crews have done searches with drones, k-9s and heat seeking technology. now families say two other men may also be trapped inside, savannah. >> okay. so what exactly is the plan to rescue people if there are still people inside? >> reporter: yeah. so it appears the search effort has already begun at this point. the city saying that fire crews late yesterday went back in and found several trapped pets and they got those out safely. but they found no people or signs of life. it is unclear how crews will be able to search again today. they say this is a delicate balance going forward because of

the stability or lack there of. they say this poses a risk to first responders. each time that rescue crews went into that structure, the building, they say, shifted at some point adding to concerns that it basically could collapse here downtown at any moment. but officials say finding people that may still be trapped inside remains a top priority and they're evaluating with structural engineers basically to determine if they could go back in and the safest way to strategically do that and search again for people who may still be trapped inside that rubble. >> maggie, thank you for the update. the republican race for president is heating up this morning with ron desantis kicking off his first full day of campaigning in iowa. he gave voters a preview of what to expect last night, stepping up attacks on donald trump. >> reporter: good morning. governor desantis had not gone after former president trump
