the afternoon, we will see temperatures warming up as the sky clears. gradually we will be at 65 degrees at 11:00, and upper 60s at noon as we head for 77 degrees. that's about three or four degrees warmer than we were yesterday and we will see that trend across a lot of areas, with a high of 79 in san mateo. mike, you had an alert for the san mateo hills? >> we did. let me get you out to the maps. the bay bridge is clear right now and that's an important note. the san mateo hills, there was a full stop in the westbound direction. speeds are recovering as traffic is starting to go through the area once again. chp just cleared this from their report. the crash went off the roadway into the hillside. crews are clearing from 92

between 280 and highway 95. >> thank you. a young girl has been shot in oakland. >> so sad. let's head out to today in the bay's bob redell with what we know so far this morning. bob? >> reporter: we know and believe this girl is going to be okay. last night in oakland, this was late last nighta 4-year-old girl was shot in the leg and rushed to the hospital. firefighters say the shooting appears to have been accidental and we don't know what led upo the shooting and if anybody will be charged in the shooting. this is near mills college. we did reach out to opd for more details and are waiting to hear back again. it's our understanding this girl will survive.

reporting live, bob redell, for "today in the bay" much relief in washington as we look at capitol hill this morning after months of back and forth negotiations, the bipartisan measure hammered out by president biden and house speaker mccarthy passed the house in a 314-117 vote. brie is on the hill. the ball is in the senate's court, brie? >> reporter: that's right. the bill to raise the debt ceiling is on the senate calendar. we expect the process to be similar with what we saw in the house with opposition from both sides of the aisle. >> the bill is passed. >> reporter: with that gavel,

oakland city leaders is putting their support behind what is known as the ebony alert. it's similar to an amber alert. this specifically would concentrate on black women or children. if a person is between the ages of 12 and 25 years old, if they suffer from a mental or physical disability or if the possible victim is trafficked or kidnapped. the tech company meta announced it's laying off another additional thousand employees. meta announced its initial plan this year in a blog post to layoff workers and it's believed to be the second round of that plan. in another move from meta, the company threatened to pull news

will gradually start to warm up but we are headed for slightly warmer temperatures today. that would be the trend go into the weekend. we will check that out in the microclimate forecast coming up. things are relatively calm right now. won't start to build for another few minutes. we are looking at the san francisco side and maybe a fire affecting the freeway itself and that would affect the metering lights. more details coming up at the half. >> thank you, mike and kari. wall street is set for a flat open. after the debt ceiling bill cleared the house last night. the markets fell yesterday to close out the month and it was a split decision for stocks in may. the nasdaq rising by almost 3% as excitement around a.i. boosted tech and chip stocks.

cameron was a disney gal. my daughter is a fan. >> there you have it. >> thanks to you guys, i know more. >> watch the "descendants" -- >> i got it. your kids were in that play. heading into the weekend, it will be warmer. the kind of weather we saw in may is starting us out in june. look at the clouds over san francisco. we are going to head for more sunshine today going from the mid-50s as you head out the door and get the day started to mid-60s for this afternoon. maybe light, long sleeve weather. we will head for 73 degrees in mountain view. 71 in hayward. instead of a lot of 60s here we are seeing low 70s. so progress. we are going to head to warmer temperatures as well.

up to 80 degrees in santa rosa tomorrow, and the same in concord, livermore. take a look at 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. we are going to have warmer temperatures for the weekend. up to about 84 in concord on saturday and santa rosa reaching 83 degrees. now this is the first day of meteorological summer, so we look at what we see in terms of our trend for summer as we deal with climate change. we are across the country seeing all of these areas in red anywhere from 4 to 5 degrees above normal than what we typically have seen in history from 1970 to present. in san francisco now our summers are averaging 2.3 degrees warmer than what we used to see back in the day. also, many more of our days are above normal with san francisco seeing now an additional 29 days of temperatures above normal for the season.

we are starting to see the temperatures warm up, and we are going to see that happen just briefly. we know this year has been different, and now we are talking about the possibility of rain in june. yes, by the middle of next week, we could see scattered showers moving into the bay area. some of that activity drifting over from the sierra into the bay, and we could see that for several days next week. we will introduce the showers and thunderstorm chances starting on tuesday into wednesday after a hot weekend, and we will definitely cool off by the middle of next week. san francisco in the upper 60s for the weekend. mike, you have reports of a fire in san francisco? >> sounds like it might be a trash fire or something just off the roadway as you come down towards 8th and bryant. that's potentially going to be an issue as folks make their way on to the city streets off of the skyway. we are watching this area. the speed sensors show no problem. there are reports of a fire but

hit-and-run at the intersection of willow pass road and diamond boulevard. the black sudan hit a bicyclists and stopped briefly before pulling off on 680. paramedics took that man to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. a 4-year-old girl is recovering after being shot in oakland. firefighters telling us she was accidently shot in the leg. investigators are still not revealing what led up to the incident. it happened on 68th avenue near macarthur boulevard near mills college. we know she was taken to the hospital and we are awaiting word on her condition. bob redell is tracking this story as well. he will have a live report for us coming up at 6:00. to a story you will only see on "today in the bay," couples recovering after a fence fell on

them while they were riding bikes on memorial day. they were out riding on a trail in berkeley near i-80. jonathan was out in the front with a friend and amy was 50 yards behind with another friend. in the middle of the ride, a fence tipped over crushing all four people. amy said she suffered a broken happened and wrist and may need surgery. they say there was no safety warnings and they want the fence taken down. >> the whole reason for making our story public is because we don't want this to happen to anybody again. >> the fence was installed by a contractor as a safety precaution due to a road project, and the contractor they are working with and another subcontract tried to reinforce the fence this morning. the man accused of stabbing a bakery worker in san

francisco's china town is due in court today. witnesses say they saw him stab her several times. police later arrested the 61-year-old. he's accused of attempted murder and assault of a deadly weapon. he appeared in court for an arraignment, but the court could not find an intermediater. head over to nbcbayarea.com/investigation to hear that story now. and then information was leaked during a ransomware, and employees argue their data was not protected. the ransomware happened in january by a group named play.

information leaked included addresses, social security numbers and driver's license data. the employees are suing and asking for information to be encrypted. a project will create 60 new units focusing on housing and low-income families. it will be a five-story building with one to three-bedroom units. that project kicks off at 11:30 this afternoon. and then the soccer team, what will their colors be? where will they play? don't expect a traditional mascot. >> kris sanchez joins us live with the growing excitement.

we will see things clearing out for a little while and bringing up our temperatures a few degrees. it will head up to 66 degrees in the city, and 75 for napa and novato. 75 in dublin and fremont. reaching 77 in san josé. that's a few degrees above what it was the past few days. we do continue the warming trend for tomorrow and into the weekend with some of our valley temperatures hitting 83 degrees. much warmer than it has been, but just slightly above normal. we also had quite a few storms developing over the sierra. now that that activity is pushing off to the east, there still could be a chance heading into the weekend. we are starting out with hurricane season and watching a tropical system heading over towards florida, and on the first day of hurricane season, let me show you the names for this season. if you know anybody's name on here, just check it out. i was looking at events -- we have a producer called vicente,

scientists with the u.s. geological survey looked at satellite data at ocean beach in san francisco. they combined it with information like sea level rise and other coastal processes and they estimated by 25 to 70% of california's iconic beaches could be completely eroded due to the rising seas going anywhere from one to ten feet. researchers say these projections can be applied statewide. the study calls on us to maintain our coastline, keeping sand on the beach. losing our beautiful beaches would not only affect our climate but our economy. you can watch my full report on the impact on ocean beach and what is being done to prevent erosion. click on the climate in crisis tab to learn more.
