glowing. a beautiful morning starting. kari is talking about changes. we've got some slowing instead of growing across the san mateo bridge which i will show you coming up. the search for four people onboard a plane that crashed in southwest virginia has been suspended. this all started yesterday when fire pilots were called after a plane went off course and appeared to be heading to d.c. the flight route of the plane indicated it was headed to long island from tennessee. many people who live in the area heard the fighter jets being scrambled. you heard it right there. the national guard says the jet tried to contact the plane, but the pilot had passed out. that plane is registered to a florida businessman who told nbc news his daughter, granddaughter, and their nanny, were onboard that plane along with the pilot. >> back to the story we were covering at the top of the newscast, the political fight over immigration is taking
6:45 am
another turn. it comes after 16 migrants were flown and left in sacramento late last week. florida governor ron desantis has dumped migrants in martha's vineyard before. governor gavin newsom and attorney general rob bonta believe the sunshine state was behind the flight that flew 16 migrants to california on friday and left them outside a church in sacramento. the 16 people are from venezuela and colombia, including four women and an 18-year-old. they've reportedly been through months of trauma, walking to the texas border where they were duped into thinking they would have jobs waiting for them if they boarded a private plane. yesterday on cnn, attorney general bonta suggested ron desantis used them as a pawn to score points in the fight against immigration.

well. he's expected to announce tomorrow. mike pence, the former vice president under trump, expected to announce wednesday. he has a town hall on cnn shortly thereafter. and then on the right, north dakota governor doug bergam, a software millionaire. he can afford to get his message on his own without having to depend on donors. now, one way of interpreting this news that there are three brand new candidates this week is that none of them are afraid of florida governor ron desantis, who announced his candidacy in a botched twitter announcement may 25th. their biggest competitor in the race is trump. there's news about him, too. the grand jury investigating his possession of classified documents is reportedly meeting again this week. nikki haley, also a candidate for president, will be at a silicon valley big ticket fundraiser next week. she did a cnn town hall over the weekend. she tried to separate herself

from other candidates on ukraine. she supports ukraine. desantis has dismissed ukraine as a regional conflict. trump has often hinted he would side with the russians. >> what we need to understand is that ukraine has the ability to win, but we have to think bigger than that. and for them to sit there and say this is a territorial dispute, that's just not the case. to say that we should stay neutral. it is in the best interest of america, it's in the best interest of our national security for ukraine to win. we have to see this through, we have to finish it. >> haley also railed against critical race theory, claiming it was taught to kindergartners. it is not. president biden's strategy seems to be just being president, which is one of the key advantages to being the incumbent. over the weekend, the president signed the bipartisan debt ceiling into law, praising both sides for coming together as americans. the stock market today largely neutral, which is a nice change. >> thanks so much, scott.

a big announcement could come today in oakland as the a's quest to move to las vegas and it is the last day nevada lawmakers are in session before they adjourn. there is still a key decision to be made, whether the state officials are willing to fund that move. last month the a's agreed in principle to a deal that the state would allocate about $380 million in public funding to help build a new ballpark. however, that still has to be voted on by lawmakers and as part of the state's budget. the a's lease on the coliseum expires at the end of next year and one week from tomorrow a's fans are set to host a reverse boycott to urge the owner, john fisher, to sell the team. trending this morning, peta's push for people to not eat chicken is backfiring. >> this week for dinosaur day, peta tweeted out saying think twice before ordering that

chicken sandwich. t-rex wouldn't approve of you eating their descendants. if you wouldn't eat a t-rex, don't eat a chicken. that tweet sent twitter users in a frenzy. many people started trolling saying they would love to try t-rex, some posting pictures of their cooked chicken pretending it was t-rex meat. it didn't go off as they planned. >> my daughter eats those chicken nuggets shaped like dinosaurs and those are the only ones she'll eat. >> more historically accurate than we thought. brontosaurus burgers, the flintstones use to eat those. >> go back in time. >> i don't think that's what they intended. >> probably not. let's get started this morning. we have a lot of changes as you get this workweek going.

first week in june and our weather is not going to be anything like what we typically see. in fact, it's going to be much cooler than yesterday and our temperatures will head for the mid-70s for the south bay, upper 70s for the inland east bay, even some lower 70s from napa to santa rosa, while san francisco is still not seeing as much of a change in those temperatures. we're headed back to the mid-60s today and even cooler for the inland valleys as we get a system coming in. that could bring us some rain. we are talking about rain in june. and usually when we see this kind of weather setup, where we see those thunderstorms and the surge in moisture, the moisture really dries up before it gets here. we could still be left with lightning. this time around it looks like we could see thunderstorms that hold it together all the way across the sierra into the central valley and moving into the bay area. and what's happening here is we're seeing a low coming up the coast that's going to draw that in. so as we go into this evening,

we're looking at the possibility of some showers and thunderstorms moving from the sacramento valley into the north bay and then some showers moving into the tri-valley, into the south bay later this evening. it's going to be off and on in terms of the rain, but we could really start to see things picking up by tomorrow morning, with possibly heavy rain that's going to be moving in for 9:00 to 10:00 tomorrow morning. and then we get a bit of a break for late morning into the early afternoon, and then there may be one last wave coming in tomorrow evening. now, some of our models are putting down the possibility that we could see anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch of rain to possibly a tenth, to maybe even a quarter inch of rainfall, with higher amounts of rainfall just depending on where some of those heavier cells pass by. not only that, but we're going to see a significant drop in temperatures. santa rosa is going into highs in the upper 60s, low 70s to mostly 60s throughout the rest
