we are going to see much more sunshine today as we look at the sunrise coming over the city. we are going to see a few clouds here and there, but temperatures mainly in the 60s. it's going to be slightly warmer for our inland areas, 77 in concord and livermore. 77 in san josé. 78 in lo gatos. about the same in oakland and novato, 71 degrees. tomorrow seeing the same temperatures and maybe slightly cooler in some spots. mike, before we get to the weekend you may need to fill up the gas tank. >> right now, 4.19 a gallon. the south bay, the best price sunniville has is costco at 4.23 a gallon. and then in santa rosa, 4.75 for

is looking good. stocks open slightly lower this morning. meantime, the dow finished the day in positive territory. in focus today, we will get data for the week and docu sign will complete its quarterly results after the market closes. google is tracking office attendance by tracking employee badges and meeting with workers who are not coming in when they are supposed to. poor attendance will be reflected in the employee's performance reviews, and this according to the memos reviewed by nbc. employees are expected in the office at least three days a week. and used car prices are

now we are seeing some of that starting to quiet down just a bit. the disturbance that brought us the rain earlier this week, still spinning across southern california. vegas is getting rain right now, and we are seeing unusual weather across the region for today, but for us it's looking nicer. novato, they are in the upper 50s. we will see a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning and a gradual warm-up eventually reach into the low 70s for today. oakland and san mateo expect a high of 69 degrees. 71 in hayward, as well as in scots valley. 75 in dublin and fremont. for tomorrow it may be slightly coolera stronger ocean breeze picking up. we will also see a few more clouds coming in. saturday is also looking very pleasant for any outdoor activities going on. looking ahead, we are still seeing the potential of more

rain across the region. some of the rain gets close to the bay area, so we are watching out for a chance of a very quick pop-up shower, and more clouds for the weekend and that will bring down the temperatures a few degrees. take a look at livermore. one of the spots where in june we are usually seeing hot weather, but we don't have that anytime soon. we are going to stay in the 70s here through at least tuesday, and then only low 80s for next weekend. our 7-day forecast shows a mostly cloudy weekend. once again, a slight chance of rain on sunday and monday. clearing out for the middle of next week, and for san francisco, expect the temperatures to be a little cooler for the weekend, so you do need jackets for festivals and the games and we will have a wrap-up for some events going on around the bay area, and that's coming up in about 10 to 15 minutes. mike, you are seeing a

welcome back. you are watching "today in the bay." here's a live look at sfo. if you ever thought the time you have between connections in a place like l.a. or phoenix were fight, there's a reason the airlines set it up that way, and it's called the minimum connection time. it's the shortest time needed for passengers to transfer between flights. mct was created on a variety of factors, like distance between gates and time of day. the average time is 40 minutes, and airlines are not willing to

4. no backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. we should see the metering lights on in the next five to seven minutes, guys. back over to you. >> thank you. students at willow glen high school will end the year with a sense of tragedy. this comes as they mourn a classmate that was hit and killed yesterday. it was in the middle of the night. >> kris sanchez is live. it's going to be a tough day. >> reporter: it is, and students here at willow glen high school will end their school year with access to grief counseling. a teen was hit and killed by a car in the driveway of his family's apartment complex. he was adored by his 3-year-old little brother. last night family and friends gathered to honor justin at two

separate memorials and try to make sense of things. his aunt smoke on behalf of the family and echoed how his friend described him as well. >> they are an immigrant family from the philippines, and they wanted a better life for justin who is a positive young man that had a bright future. >> he was loved in the community, like in the school and everything. >> reporter: the gofundme account set up for the family is an indication how the community is supporting the family, and compounding the tragedy is the fact that the driver that hit and killed justin is a teenager herself. she's cooperating with the investigation, and it appears this was a terrible accident. kris sanchez for "today in the bay." >> thank you.

we are learning new details in the investigation over a side show that -- a slide show, rather, that contained racist comments. it was circulated at a middle school in santa rosa. the superintendent said multiple students created a slide back in march. it was sent to teachers and students. students made mistakes and the district is working to assess that situation. one of the men accused in the deadly highway shootout that killed a 23-month-old, jasper wu, is back in court. ivory bivens faces murder charges with gang enhancement. yesterday his family told us

they are frustrated by the d.a.'s attorney decision to drop other enhancements so those defendants would not face a sentence of life without patrol. a boy was bit by a rattle snake yesterday, and the child was walking through grass when it felt the bike on his lower leg. his mom carried him back to the parking lot. ultimately a chp helicopter arrived and flew that boy to the hospital and they had to stabilize the boy. >> his mom was able to keep him calm. having family there is definitely the most important thing for younger snake bite victims. >> the rangers said because the hospital is close and treatments

are good, the child should be okay. rangers say hikers should watch where they are walking especially if they are off trail. if you are bitten, try to stay calm and know where you are so you can call for help. also happening today, 5:35, the san francisco sheriff has a new plan to deal with the city's fentanyl crisis. it's a specialized team of sheriff deputies who have undergone extensive training. they are set to be deployed to places where open air drug use runs rampant and it comes as the city is trying to crack down on the fentanyl crisis. now for a high-end bike heist. thieves walked out with $50,000

of bikes. it was a well-planned operation. here's surveillance of the break-in. three people broke in with a bar and they are eventually joined by two others in redwood city at about 5:00 in the morning last thursday. the owner of the business says the thieves took six e bikes and a high-end road bike. >> they knew what they wanted. yeah, they knew the exact bikes they were going for. >> another business in the area said their store was also broken into, and they want to see more police in the area especially at night. nevada lawmakers will continue to debate the future of the oakland a's relocation to the state for a second day. they worked well into the night trying to reach a deal. the special session was called by the governor specifically for

this purpose after lawmakers were unable to reach a deal during the regular calendar. the a's are asking for $380 million in taxpayer money to build a new ballpark on the strip. some nevada lawmakers are skeptical as to why the billionaire team owner needs help from the state. >> the governor vetoed funding for summer school and a bill to support children's mental health and a bill requiring paid family leave all because the governor said we can't afford them. >> if nevada lawmakers approve the money it would give the a's the green light to move to las vegas. a poll shows 87% are against using taxpayer dollars. 5:38 right now. we're celebrating pride. yep, they are going to do flag

technology. north dakota's governor and former vice president mike pence launched their campaigns yesterday. pence accused his former boss, former president trump are putting himself ahead of the u.s. constitution on january 6th. >> my former running mate continues to insist i had the right to overturn the election, but president trump was wrong then, and he's wrong now. >> this comes as trump says he's being informed that he is a target of a doj investigation into how he handled classified documents. that's according to two sources briefed on a meeting between lawyers and prosecutors. we have known for more than a year that a special prosecutor was looking into trump's handling of the documents, but

informing him of the next step in the process means prosecutors believe he committed a crime. last year the fbi searched trump's home and found more than 180 documents marked classified. president trump has denied any wrong doing. governor newsom is proposing a historic 28th amendment in the constitution aimed at ending gun violence. that's according to something sent out moments ago. it would bar the civilian purchase of assault weapons. there will be more on that announcement coming up at 6:00 on "today in the bay." later today the supreme court is set to announce a series of decisions and one could be the fate of president

for another. >> the sun is rising and a clear start. a different picture from yesterday at this time. we will see our weather changing. we have had a lot of thunderstorm activity now in southern california. they are getting a lot of storms over the sierra. i have an update on the drought monitor released minutes ago. taking a look at the drought conditions across the west, and we know we have seen major improvements here in california, but we are still seeing some very minor moderate drought, i should say, for parts of southern california and abnormally dry conditions further to the north. we have seen improvements for much of the west, including parts of the rockies and off towards the east as well. our reservoirs continue to fill up.

look at lake orville, now completely full. trinity lake goes up as the sierra snow-melt continues, so we will continue to see the reservoir levels still rising even though we have not seen a lot of rain here recently. our temperatures reaching into the upper 70s for our inland east bay as well as the south bay today, reaching 77 in concord. 73 in napa, and san mateo reaching 69 degrees. comfortable weather, but it could be cooler tomorrow with clouds coming in. we will enjoy the sunshine today because there will be disturbances nearby that will keep it cloudy throughout the weekend, and we could see a slight chance of showers sunday towards monday as an active weather pattern continues across the region. as far as temperatures, it will take a while before it starts to feel like summer around the bay area. brentwood, one of our usual hot

spots will be in the 70s and 80s, and next week we will reach into the 80s and we will have swimming weather then, but until then we are looking at the 70s in the forecast for a lot of the inland areas. we will see a mostly cloudy weekend which will bring the temperatures down in san francisco as well as the bay area beaches. mike, you were talking about a slow drive through berkeley? >> yeah, it's lighter at the bay bridge, and we will show you that in a second. i did want to call out highway 37. that earlier car fire has not caused any slowing or a real disturbance. highway 4 lighter. this is thursday, so yesterday would have seen a heavier volume, but many families are taking vacations. i forgot this was going to

happen today, this is closed for work and that's shifting people towards university, and once you past university everything lightens up. the backup just forming at the bay bridge. the lights were turned on at 5:40. we are seeing a build not out of the maze but the altamont pass. overall, it's moving great. vasco where we see the typical slowing, and it's over a half hour to marsh creek, and there's a fire in discovery bay. the rest of the tri-valley showing an easy drive. north 101, just a little traditional slowing there north of 880 and oakland road. we are approaching 6:00, and that should clear a bit.

welcome back. you are watching "today in the bay." right now about 100 million people on the east coast are being blanketed with eerie and dangerous amounts of wildfire smoke blowing from eastern canada. you can see the orange skies, and it's reminiscent of what we saw in the bay area in 2020. some of these conditions are the worst air quality on the planet and the worst new york ever recorded. this is stretching down into parts of the southwest as the u.s. and canada are seeing all the wildfire smoke. more than 9 million acres

already burned there, and tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from northern quebec. and flights in laguardia were canceled. >> i'm not going anywhere. i was supposed to teach in manhattan, and it dependant seem worth it today, especially with a baby on the way. >> there are things that people there can do in those hazardous conditions like checking the air quality alerts regularly, and running the filtration unit if you have one and limiting time outdoors. people going from the bay area, if you must go there, wear a mask to keep the small particles out. we take a look at where we see purple sensors.
