>> reporter: it's the dramatic rescue that has captured the world. four small children found deep in the amazon jungle their survival after 40 days nothing short of a miracle tonight new details on how they stayed alive the children members of an indigenous tribe had been living off the forest their grandmother explains the eldest child just 13 years old had always taken care of her siblings, including the youngest with them, just 11 months old. she found cassava flour from the wreckage to eat, along with fruits and seeds her grandmother says the young girl knew which ones were safe to eat photos taken by the search team show fruit half eaten which along with foot prints, a baby bottle, and tiny shoes left behind helped lead them to the survivors. their father calling it a miracle of god the children had been missing since may 1st when their plane crashed killing three adults on board including their mother together members of the tribe joined the colombian military, searching over 1600 miles, through thick rain forest and jungle rivers, never giving up until the children were found alive.
