not guilty to the charges spent the weekend at events where he declared his innocence and claimed that the justice department is using him to get to his supporters. many of trump's fellow republicans rushed to his defense over the weekend two of trump's allies in congress, jim jordan and lindsey graham attempted to down play the indictment with graham saying that trump is not guilty of espionage as the charges claim he is. meanwhile, trump's rivals in the republican primary mainly focused their criticism on what they called a weaponized justice department rather than trump himself. one candidate vivek ramaswamy is doubling down on his stance of pardoning trump if he is elected. >> brie, i want to ask you have any prominent republicans made an attempt at criticizing trump for his actions? >> reporter: frances, there is one republican who is speaking out against trump is his former attorney general bill barr barr appeared on fox on sunday

truck caught on fire beneath an elevated section of i-95 in northeast philadelphia causing it to collapse there have been no reports of injuries but it's unclear if the tanker truck's driver was trapped during that collapse officials say this section of freeway carries about 160,000 vehicles a day so travel and commerce could be disrupted for months while the freeway is rebuilt. the city of new haven, conne connecticut, has agreed to a $45 million settlement with randy cox. he was left paralyzed from the waist down while being transported in the back of a police van last june he was handcuffed and without a seat belt and went head first into the metal partition when the van had to brake hard. the agreement was reached on friday two days after the city fired two police officers who authorities say treated cox recklessly and without compassion according to body cam footage officers mocked him, accusing him of being drunk and faking his injuries while dragging him by his feet and placing him in a holding cell five police officers including those who were fired face

criminal charges, all have pleaded not guilty. the nation saw yet another weekend of deadly gun violence from coast to coast. three people were killed and three others hurt in a shootingover night in annapolis, maryland police believe the shooting began with a fight at a home and there is no threat to the public a person of interest is in custody. meanwhile, police in houston, texas, are searching for at least one suspect after shots were fired into a crowd outside a nightclub. six people were shot, one of them was seriously hurt. and san francisco police are investigating a drive-by shooting that injured nine people officials believe the shooting was a targeted attack. the victims are all expected to survive. moving now to russia where a moscow court says another american citizen has been detained, the u.s. state department tells nbc news they are aware of the arrest of michael travis leake he is accused of drug-related charges according to a russian court statement via telegram we go now to josh lederman for

what do we know about the latest on the fighting there? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. since zelenskyy confirmed the counteroffensive has now started the ukrainian army claims they already conquered three villages previously under russian occupation in the southeast of the country. russia has yet to comment or confirm this, but there is a video on social media showing ukrainian troops raising a ukrainian flag, on a destroyed building on one of those villages and another video shows another ukrainian brigade saying or chanting or shouting glory to ukraine in another of those villages the three villages are small in size and population but are considered to be strategic because they paved the way for the ukrainian military to bigger targets like the city of mariupol or the crimean peninsula or the city of bakhmut which was the scene of one of the longest and bloodiest battles since the start of the war. what is boosting the ukrainian army is the use of military
