tracking a fire burning near a lake and creating a smoky father's day for some self-pay neighborhoods. >> president biden will be in the bay area. we will get a look at his schedule and the big announcement he is set to make. >> a positive side effect of all of that rain. how the stormy part of the year is bringing life back. thank you for joining us on the special edition of nbc bay area. we are on right now because of the u.s. open. >> we will have highlights from the final round in just a bit but we want to begin with an update on that fire. it broke out in san jose about format:30 this afternoon. here is a look from a wildfire camera. it looks like they got it knocked down. we have not heard that from firefighters yet. that is where it was. now it is not. despite all the smoke, there was a lot of it. firefighters say has only burned one acre. they jumped on this thing. no structures threatened. >> crews in the north bay are making good progress on the

snell fire. the good news is it is not growing. flames have burnt 103 acres. that has not changed since yesterday morning. containment up to 90%. cruiser keeping an eye on the windy conditions on the forecast for northern napa county. you can see some trees right there swaying in the wind. let's bring in meteorologist rob. those wins are not going to help. >> you saw how that snow smoke was. there is another look where the trees are moving around marin county. the wind sustained from 20-30 miles per hour. wins up to 20-25 miles per hour. during the day it was northwest wind up in santa rosa that had humidity levels down in the 20% range. they had increasing wind, decreasing humidity and

temperatures did warm up around the north bay. earlier we were seeing 80s around santa rosa now. we will see more wins tomorrow but some cooling temperatures in addition to that. look what is happening in the northern sierra. a chance of snow showers into tomorrow. we will not see showers this far south that we will have ongoing winds around the bay area for the coast, san francisco and the inland hills. temperatures dropping into the 40s and 50s. we will talk more about these cooler temperatures on the way and when more summerlike weather returns coming up in about 10 minutes. president biden heading back to the bay area for the second time this year and this time it is all about fundraising for his reelection campaign. yesterday in pennsylvania, the president held his first major rally. he is coming to the bay area to finance the campaign. he is set to land at moffett's field tomorrow.

he will then travel to palo alto. also tore some coastal wetlands. mr. biden is expected to announce more than $60 million in funding for climate adaptation projects. then he has plans for multiple campaign events. tickets we are told start at around $6600. on tuesday mr. biden has an event in marin county and governor newsom are set to appear at a fundraiser in kentfield. tonight we are speaking with bay area climate activists ahead of the president's big announcement. we will be joined life with the reaction in about 30 minutes and will continue to follow the president's visit on air. coverage continues tomorrow morning. you can always find the latest information online by downloading our free nbc bay area news app. san francisco police officers said they were attacked when they showed up to a car burglary in progress. you can see in this video posted on twitter, officers

approached a man. they say he wouldn't drop his weapon and you can see what happens. officers taken down and arrested that man. in bodega bay, a big accident involving courses. it happened three this afternoon south of bodega bay. a large horse trailer with six courses inside crashed down an embankment. it triggered a three-hour rescue operation from a 25 personal response team. somehow the animals survived with superficial injuries only. three were even able to walk held themselves. three others were pulled up with ropes, harness and a makeshift harness system. the horses belong to a local business who rents out a local children's business. as pushback continues over drag performances, a church became the venue for a drag queen bible story our in san

stories. yesterday the batters up guns down softball tournament took over san pablo park. >> this might be another sign that drought conditions have eased up for the first time in three years. and east bay lake is finally back open for swimmers. we are live from shadow clip regional recreation area and pleasanton. >> this swimmers have cleared out. i promised there were dozens of people packed on this beach a couple of hours ago. the water you see behind me, much of that is new because the lake has been refilled with water. the east bay regional parks district says it started in may to buy extra water from the -- water district to bring back recreation to this lake. swimming and boating here stopped three years ago at first due to the pandemic but then continue due to severe

hellfire investigators have not determined the cause for a deadly wildfire that tore through the town of weed last year. mill fire was apparently caused by mill operations at the roseburg forest products property which harvested timber. september 2022 fire killed two people and burned 4000 acres across siskiyou county. 144 structures were damaged or destroyed. hellfire says it has forwarded its findings to the das office. fire crews are gearing up for this fire season. we are taking a closer look at how first responders are training in new advancements. we also delve into what you need to do to keep yourself safe. you can find a link to the special on our website nbc bay area.com. the 67th annual north east -- beach festival racked up today.

details on this visit. >> first of all, the president is expected to announce $600 million in funding to help tackle the climate crisis. he's set to fly in to moffett federal airfield from delaware tomorrow afternoon and head right to palo alto. once there, he'll visit the nature interpretive center and preserve. according to the white house, the president will tour the coastal wetlands and talk about how community leaders are working to safeguard homes and infrastructure from the growing impacts of the climate crisis. the president is also expected to announce funding to protect the nation's power grid from

extreme weather and prepare coastal communities for climate change impacts, including sea level rise, and storm surges. matt renner says more still needs to be done. >> i think he has to speak for his record and i think any climate activist will tell you it's definitely mixed. i personally think that the bay area is an important place to speak about this because of how much money is flowing into the bay area through climate tech and how much federal spending is going to benefit the bay area. but also because you know, the bay area at least theoretically should be a place where he and the vice president are answerable to climate activists who want to see even more action. >> the president also plans to discuss creating good paying, clean energy jobs, and protecting the environment for future generations. his visit is not all about climate change. he also plans to attend two

different campaign fundraidsers. one in the late afternoon and one a few hours later in atherton. both of those will be held at private homes. nbc bay area news. >> thank you. we will, of course, continue to follow the president's visit on air throughout the evening. our coverage continuing tomorrow morning on today in the bay. you can always find the latest information online or by downloading our free news app. it is not just the president coming to the west coast as the 2024 presidential race heats up. one of his republican political rivals, ron desantis also hitting the campaign trail in northern california this week. our affiliate in sacramento reports he's going to be there tomorrow for a private fundraiser. desantis' stop will be his first in california since they admitted their involvement in transporting 36 migrants, dropping them off unannounced right there in sacramento. new questions surrounding the transportation of those migrants. each of the 36 migrants was given a release form to sign

before boarding the plane. accord together the sacramento bee, the form asked for identifying information, and then verifies the person signing is at least 18, literate, and that they want to participate in the voluntary transport program. now it goes on to ask the person to verify they have been processed and released by the u.s. government and have been authorized to travel freely within the united states. advocates say they were lied to and expected to be taken to a place where they would be protected and have work. first responders are calling it amazing. a driver escaping a fiery crash involving a tanker truck in the east bay this morning. happened just after 1:00. this is near willow avenue just north of hercules. a driver crashed into an unoccupied car. first responders rescued that driver. >> it's actually amazing that

people escaped both of these crashes relatively unharmed. we had one moderate injury. >> gasoline tanker involved in the crash leaked diesel on to the freeway, and the freeway was partially closed as cal- trans cleaned up that man. a man accused of blowing up his sunset district home. they say new evidence has come to light. he will now face a murder charge for the powerful blast that killed his wife and rocked that neighborhood. the explosion happened back in february. price is set to be formally charged on wednesday. he faces several other charges in addition to that murder charge. keeping an eye on our climate and crisis. how a bay area company is helping to test air quality in the nation's capitol. we're back in two minutes.

the launches seem to happen so often now, but every single time it's really something stunning. space-x spent another falcon 9 rocket into space from cape canaveral today. this launch comes as part of a push to provide greater coverage of broad band access to the thousands of islands throughout that country. the first stage falcon 9 booster supporting this mission has launched more than 10 times now. last week's dangerous air quality was a bit of a wake-up call for the east coast. washington, d.c. is rolling out a new way to monetary air. >> using high-tech cars to help measure air quality in some d.c. neighborhoods. we got behind the wheel to see how it works. >> reporter: gets paid to drive

around big cities. you might spot them driving one of these cars around d.c.. >> we drive 24/7, so from different drivers. >> reporter: he works for a san francisco based company that gathers air samples and measures air quality. conducting testing for the d.c. department of energy and environment, he drives his electric car. this funnel on the side of the car grabs air samples that go through these tubes and into the momonitor in his trunk.k. that data isis then sent to scientists in san francisco who compile and analyze it. the cars will be monitoring three neighborhoods over the next two weeks. ivy city/brentwood, buzzer point, and mayfair. those neighborhoods were chosen for the first round of testing because they're at high risk of the same type of pollution we

saw last week from the wildfire smoke. >> these neighborhoods have a history of red lining and one of the main pollutants it will be measuring is particulate matter. obviously, we're not seeing the same level of particulate pollution, but particulates, they're produced by diesel vehicles. they're produced by brake wear on cars. they're produced by asphalt plants. >> reporter: the epa monitors the air quality of the district from five sites across the city. over the past few decades, the district's air quality has been getting much better. >> for the first time ever, our air quality levels are in compliance with all federal air quality standards. >> reporter: money to conduct more testing in other neighborhoods next year. >> kind of interesting. rob was just talking a moment ago about how few spare the air

the subject of a graveyard mystery. after three long months, sidney cooper's decades old remains are still missing. his family is taking legal action to figure out what happened. >> our main issue is to get them reunited as intended to be. >> reporter: the cooper family put on brave faces as they took the stage to commemorate juneteenth. but instead of focusing on the events that led to their freedom, they're now held captive by the loss for the second time of their father. sidney cooper, sr. died 22 years ago when his widow died in march, the couple's four

children got comfort in the fact that they would soon be reunited. but. >> the day before my mother's funeral, they told me they opened the grave site, and my father was not there, and i was absolutely devastated. and they asked me did i want to hold my mother's body until they try to locate my father. >> reporter: the they she's talking about is greenwood memorial park. not only did greenwood lose their father's body, the cooper family says the cemetery also disrespected their mother's remains. the family went through with their mother's burial only to discover this, their mother's gravesite left with only plywood covering the family plot. >> and when i went to see plywood on top of my mother's grave when it was raining, i was heartbroken. i cried at the gravesite. >> reporter: that's when they hired a lawyer. on friday, a lawsuit was filed

against the cemetery charging intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence. >> i've had nightmares about, you know, what could have happened. >> reporter: a spokesperson from greenwood sent nbc 7 a statement that says in part we are diligently working to confirm the placement of a loved one. >> what they're saying about diligently working with us, that's bull. they have not diligently worked with us at all. >> reporter: after three long months, sidney cooper's remains still haven't been found. >> it almost feels like we're in limbo. we can't move on at all. >> reporter: his family and extended family just want sidney and his wife thelma to be reunited. they're hoping the lawsuit will speed things up and protect other families from suffering the way theirs is. a northern california bike shop is putting out the call for some helping hands. this is the mill valley location of mad dogs and englishmen. gearing up to put together 25 bikes for the boys and girls club of america this week. the company is in san francisco

for a total of 75 bikes. anyone who wants to put the bikes together part by part, just show up monday or tuesday. >> we're, of course, going to have professional mechanics doing the check overs before anyone rides these bikes. but we need help building up so many bikes. we've only got two or three people here that are professionals. so a couple more would definitely help. >> the bikes are all fairly small, entry-level bikes really. some will even have training wheels on them. the idea is to get kids who could not otherwise afford a bike rolling. in danville today, some families spent father's day roaming the rows of a car show designed especially for dads. this is the second annual john schneider memorial father's day car show at the black hawk auto museum. there was something for everyone from hot rods to newer sporty cars. the name of the game was family fun and making memories. some came with their young kids and others came with their own

fathers. >> my favorite car is the 1965 mustang. a car i loved since i was a kid, so it was cool to see it out here with the same colors i want when i get it. >> i came out with my dad to check it out, the old cars back from when he was in high school. so it brings him back, and i've always enjoyed these car shows. >> hundreds of cars were part of the show competing for prizes and a number of categories. >> 65 mustang brings back some memories. a gorgeous shot. plane taking off. >> good flying weather in terms of visibility. maybe a bit of a bumpy ride. wind gusts up to 41 miles per hour, 61 degrees. mostly clear skies around the peninsula. out toward san jose, also looking at 60-64 degrees. northwest wind at 17. but the clouds kind of interesting. looks like a stack of plates or pancakes in the sky. we get a lot of calls about this when these clouds form.

they're also known as lenticular clouds. it creates that stacked like appearance with the clouds, and then the air descends and dries on the other side. so one of these types of clouds will typically set up before a storm system comes in. we usually see this in the fall and winter, not so much in june. coincidentally, we have shower chances on the way for parts of northern california during the day tomorrow. back down and ground level, 20- 30-mile an hour winds. we'll stay that way until the morning. moving you forward afternoon to ening, still 30-40-mile an hour winds into the north bay. and by monday night, finally those wind speeds start to come down. so about halfway done with these gusty winds as we start off the new week. lots of 50s to start the morning. mid-50s for most of the bay

area during the day tomorrow. still breezy out there, and highs only in the upper 60s in san jose, low 60s for san francisco, and low 70s about the warmest we'll see inland, and the driver of the cooling and blustery conditions, and the chance of showers. tomorrow, probably into tuesday for parts of northern california we will have the chance of showers mostly north of lake county. if you like sunshine on the coast, we expect to see those low clouds stay away through tuesday. get that extra blanket out. tuesday morning, temperatures are in the 40s. for wind-sheltered valleys, it will feel quite a bit cooler. during the day tuesday, highs in the mid to upper 70s. right now, summer begins wednesday officially. should see numbers in the upper 70s. 81 in fairfield, and then things cool down again. as we get into thursday and friday, more wind as another area of low pressure. as soon as one moves out, it's

been the story since may, another one drops down the coast. that will lead to a second round of cooling returning by thursday. look at san francisco. briefly climbing into the mid and upper 60s wednesday cooling as we approach next weekend, and those valleys briefly warming on wednesday. back to where we are right now as we head into the first weekend of summer next weekend. not really feeling like it yet for those inland valleys. >> summer is here with those temps. new gm going to speak publicly for the first time since it was announced he's going to replace bob meyers. dunlevy, jr. played five seasons with the team before getting traded to the indiana pacers. he came back to the warriors in 2018. he's been working his way up the past five years. expected to speak tomorrow morning at chase center. all eyes will be on the warriors this week with the nba draft this thursday. could be a test for the new gm.

45 miles an hour. our daytime highs will be running quite cool, at least by mid-june standards. we're looking at 60s around san jose and livermore tomorrow. sunny skies again on the coast. not exactly warm. staying in the upper 50s to low 60s from san francisco to oakland. as we approach the final days of spring, summer begins on wednesday. so look at our temperatures there. warmest day of the week probably will be wednesday once the winds back off. also look at the bottom of the screen. tuesday morning, we'll have 40s in our north bay valleys. wind-sheltered valleys chilly at night. the daytime temperatures not too bad. the pattern kind of reinforces itself. you see the dip in temperatures there, again thursday more wind, and more mild temperatures as we head toward the weekend. the calendar says it's summer. not so much the 7-day forecast getting into the first weekend of summer. >> mid-70s for the first day of
