september. i love her. >> that looks good. >> and you know she can act, she can sing, she can model. she is everything. >> some would say that she is the goat in her category. i want to talk about some goats. some neighbors in texas are wondering maybe they woke up in a farm last week instead of their neighborhood. a group of goats invaded their neighborhood. take a look, this is mckinney, texas. they counted more than 40 goats grazing on lawns. some argue that they needed to move them through the area, so they kind of feasted. eventually the group made its way back to the herd which was nearby trimming vegetation for a contractor, which is good that we mention that. because in the hills of fremont and other parts of the bay, we see dozens sometimes 100 goats out in those fields because we do like to watch that. so glad that they are doing that in texas as well.

hunter biden, that name has been like a drumbeat for some in the republican party callinging for the conviction of hunter biden for foreign business dealing. his son though reached a plea bargain agreement with the u.s. prosecutor in delaware when was -- who was appointed by the trump administration. the plea agreement means he won't face any jail time. the first lady and the president said that they stand by hunter. >> any reaction to the guilty plea? >> i'm very proud of my son. >> if you were the president's leading political opponent, the doj tries to literally put you in jail and give you prison time. if you are the president's son, you get a sweetheart deal. >> reporter: the president had a fundraiser last night and before he landed, a fighter jet had to be scrambled to intercept a

3:00 yesterday afternoon. this is 61-year-old don williams. he has dementia and he was last seen wearing a blue sweat shirt, navy colored pants and blue baseball cap with an american flag on it. he is described as 5'10" with a slender build, has gray hear and blue eyes. anyone with information should call novato police. happening today, a san francisco man accused in a deadly house explosion is scheduled to be arraigned. you may remember that incident, it happened back in february in the sunset district. prosecutors say that darren price was operating a drug lab inside his home. the blast killed his wife and damaged nearby homes. price is facing a murder charge. developing now, the clock is ticking for rescue crews to find signs of the missing titan submersible. the five person crew went on a dive to the titanic wreckage

site sunday morning but lost contact with crews. and the u.s. coast guard says underwater noises were detected in the search area every 30 minutes yesterday, but so far rescuers have yielded negative results. as of last night, the crew had less than 40 hours of breathable air left. one team sea explorer tim taylor warns a loss of power in the sub means the crew has been in freezing temperatures for more than two days. >> i think temperatures is going to be a big factor if they don't have a way of keeping themselves warm. they have been if freezing temperatures for two days now. and that is a major factor to consider as well. >> taylor says a rescue is still possible if the passengers are found alive soon. 6:08. a live look at san jose. this is the first day of summer. vianey arana has more details of what to expect.

this is the price. you want to get a basic cable package, this is the rice. and nbc bay area is owned by comcast. the latest data on housing starts show a surprising number of homes under construction. could be because there are so few existing homes on the market about current owners deciding not to move to keep their lower mortgages. a study shows a huge amount of empty office space in the bay area. vacancies 17% in san jose, mountain view is worse, 20%. san francisco worse than that, 25% 3 and the education department has set the date for the restart of student loan interest. september 1. the recent agreement in washington to raise the debt ceiling also included a new restriction on extending any kind of delay on student loan repayments. so interest starts september 1, payments shortly thereafter.

separately the supreme court is considering the legality of student loan forgiveness deciding whether president biden and the department of education have the legal authority to forgive up to $20,000 in loans for millions of americans. that doesn't change anything. that is going to be the same. still waiting on that. unlikely the supreme court will say that biden has that power. we'll see. that is my bet. but again, as far as if you have a student loan, expect october to be when you are going to be starting to write checks again. it has been three years. interesting the effect on the economy. >> which has been a good deal if you had to pay, hopefully you saved. >> fantastic. the average student loan is between $600 and $800 a month. and millions of americans have not been spending that on student loans, spending it somewhere else. if you own a restaurant or something else, you may see -- $800 a month. >> and i was going to say yesterday we ran the story about the study on homelessness and

>> well, all right. new for you this morning, this bay area girl scout is on a mission to help those who are unhoused by spreading warmth. >> this is lila christensen. she's a girl scout's cadet and along with her troop, she had the idea of creating fleece blankets giving them to those unhoused to keep them warm during the winter months. she collected materials from neighbors and family and friends and the girls put the blankets together by themselves. >> we used a simple pattern which is literally just like taking two squares and we tied them together with little like tassels that we cut out. and like we kept tying them together until it made like a blanket. >> very sweet. and she then taught more than 100 other girls to help make the same blankets to make a difference in their communities.

you can plan out your lunch hour. mostly sunny, mild temperatures. notice 60s and 70s for your lunch hour right around 12:00, 1:00. and if i push the time forward to 3:00, we'll have highs reaching the upper 70s. it is not very windy right now for most of the area, but we can expect to see some afternoon wind pick up, but it will be more noticeable around the coastline and parts of the north. san francisco, even areas through novato. and in through the afternoon, 15 to 20 miles per hour. we'll stay dry for the most part, we do have a system that will cool us off for tomorrow with a chance for drizzle, but looking ahead to notice that is june 28th, we do have a warm-up in store. but before that, we'll cool off a little bit first. so let's get to the 10 day outlook for san jose. also does a good job of paintings picture for what is to

bridge crossing of the richmond to san rafael side, this buildup has formed over the last ten minutes. this started earlier the bay bridge backup and it is still there. new, disabled vehicle, and it looks like westbound direction of interstate 80 just around golden gates field. we'll double check. but slowing sensors indicate that may be in the commute direction. no major problems like yesterday though on the east shore freeway. here we have a bit of a build more slowing and more traffic coming down out of brentwood, discovery bay. but 27 minutes is a better drive than we typically see at 6:23 toward 580. it is summertime and we see the shift from the earlier commute to later in the day. over here north 101 with a light

will bring the possibility of drizzle around the coastline as well as some cloud cover. but for the weekend, we have a warming trend ahead. two men died in a devastating crash in alameda county that was so violent, it split the car in two. and there are still some major unanswered questions. chris sanchez is live in dublin. what are you learning there this morning? >> reporter: this car hit a tree and light pole with such force that the debris extends from where i'm standing all the way back to the corner behind me. and there is even more debris ahead of us as well. dublin police say it appears that speed was a factor in this crash. it happened on doherty road near dublin san ramon border about 10:30 last night. in video of the crash, the vehicle is unrecognizable, but we now know it was a bmw m-3.

it appears the driver was speeding when he hit a tree and light pole head-on with such force that the car split in two and each half was engulfed in flames. we saw the coroner here at the scene and police now confirm that 25-year-old man and another unidentified man both from san ramon died here at the scene. the investigation is ongoing, but at this point impact appears to have been caused by speed. i want to point out according to the national highway traffic safety administration, in 2021, speed was a factor in a third of deadly crashes. the speed limit here on doherty is 45 miles per hour, but likely during this live report, you have seen people going faster than that. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> a great he opportunity to remind people to justslow down.

and happening now, a hopeful new lead in the search for that missing tour submarine in the atlantic ocean. the craft disappeared three days ago. and this is the area we're talking about. you can see how close it is to the mainland here. so the rescue happened, and rescuers say they heard some underwater noises. jeff sapperstone has more for us. >> reporter: the coast guard command center is coordinating the search right here out of boston. overnight underwater noises detected by canadian aircraft, the coast guard says the noids were discovered in the search area of the missing sub some 900 miles off the coast of cape cod. cnn reports a banking "sound was heard every 30 minutes according to an internal government memo. and that white rectangular was

spotted in the water. the navy is analyzing the latest discovery. five people are on board the missing submersible operated by oceangate including the ceo of the company who was piloting it. they were on a mission to explore the wreckage of the titanic when it lost contact. >> right now all of our efforts are focused on finding the sub. what i will tell you is we have a group of our nation's best experts in unified command. if we get to that point, those experts will be looking at what the next course of action is. >> reporter: there is less than 40 hours of oxygen remaining on the sub. we hope to get an update at some point today. from boston, i'm jeff sapperstone. and two of the people on board have ties to the bay area. the businessman and his 19-year-old son are on board.

people injured. 33-year-old lee haywood of pittsburg is facing several charges. police say he was in the suv that shot at people in a white sedan. and investigators say haywood, a woman in the suv, and four bystanders were all injured. they are all expected to recover. the suspects in the other car are still at large. people in one south bay city are taking matters in to their own hands at least when it comes to one crime fighting technology. several neighborhoods in saratoga are now funding their own license plate readers and other neighborhoods have already done so. the city already utilizes seven devices. leaders just approved about two dozen more. the districts will share the day take with law enforcement. >> it will help with leads. so far the success rate is pretty impressive. biggest thing is to get the

vehicles back to the rightful owner. >> already installed devices are being credited for nine deputy arrests this year alone. those readers will be funded by residents through their property taxes. major new milestone for the tilting and sinking millennium tower in san francisco. our investigative unit has learned that the luxury tower is now supported by a total of 18 piles sunk in it bedrock along two sides. it currently leans more than 29 inches at the northwest corner of free month and mission streets. much of the leaning is caused by the digging and other activities surrounding the fix project that began back in 2021. engineers hope the steel and concrete piles will stop the tower from sinking further and even reverse some of the tilt. while management sees encouraging results, experts tell us it is too soon to know

for sure. still in san francisco, you are looking at an iconic san francisco landmark there. the golden gate bridge, 17th on the trip advisor list which we don't agree with, but it looks beautiful this morning. this first day of summer. >> what a lovely way to start our wednesday. it looks beautiful out there. and temperature-wise, even san francisco is going to fair okay. by the afternoon even though right now we're in the 50s, you will notice any sort of cloud cover lingering along the coast will clear and by 11:00, 12:00, we'll be in the 60s. and the wind will pick up in the afternoon. in areas through the interior like dublin, it is about 48 degrees right now. you will also notice that we'll get quite the clearing skies and our temperatures will bump in to the 70s. that will make for a nice first

and the judge in the murder trial talked with craig melvin about the intense media coverage. >> were you surprised by the attention, the extent of it? >> probably shouldn't have been surprised. you know, high profile lawyer, death of a wife, death of a child, accusations of stealing millions from clients. allegations of lawyer hooked on drugs. it had all the ingredients for something of major public interest. >> murdaugh is still facing incidence of theft charges on the state level. and his attorney already talking about a plea charge to avoid another criminal trial. president biden called the president of china a dictator. >> and scott mcgrew, the chinese aren't very happy about that.

>> yeah, and it is tough timing as well. secretary of state antony blinken just left china after what was described as a very successful trip to ease tensions and furthermore talks. stabilize an unstable relationship blinken said. the word came up as biden was speaking here in the bay area where he was describing what he had learned about what xi knew about the spy balloon. he said that xi didn't know anything about the balloon and biden said, quote, that is a great embarrassment for dictators when they didn't know what happened. now, is xi a dictator? he is indisputably in charge of a one party is him which selects him as president every time. chinese presidents used to rotate with term limits. xi do the rid of those limits. but china says the comments were extremely absurd and irresponsible seriously contradicting the basic facts.

president biden will leave the bay area just after 10:00 our time. thom jensen is at the airport ready to cover it and he says the president is expected to conduct a brief press conference life he goes. u.s. attorney general merrick garland wrapping up a trip to hague this morning. he held a press conference where he was asked about a plea deal yesterday with hunter biden. we're still waiting on this video. it happened in the netherlands and our staff is tracking it down. yesterday the federal prosecutor announced a plea deal with hunter biden over unpaid taxes and falsifying a form to buy a gun. it seems to wrap up a five year investigation by the prosecutor who was appointed by donald trump. garland asked about it said he had nothing to say. but he said reporters were free to ask the prosecutor who handled the case. and we're watching the john durham hearings, they just started.

do have golden gate bridge. we talk about the iconic fog, so that is pretty typical. meanwhile clear skies inland, dublin, clear conditions. and we're starting to see the 50s eventually warm up. and by noon, we'll be in the mid-60s and low 70s for most of the bay area. so notice mostly sunny, maxing out today by 3:00, upper 70s. so areas like concord will be near the 80s, morgan hill as well. around the coastline, we'll keep the winds. a little gusty at time, but i want to show you the 10 day pattern. notice thursday and friday, here we go, we'll dip down into the 70s. but by saturday and sunday, you notice that the increase in the bump in temperatures. we'll start to set up for a warming trend into the first official week of summer. and that will bump us up into the 80s by wednesday and thursday. notice morgan hill also interesting here, we'll start to dip down heading into the

weekend. we start to climb, climb, and then eventually by next friday, we could even be in the upper 80s on the forecast. if you will be out and about on sunday for san francisco pride, the weather will be great, but we can expect cloudiness to start and inland areas will be seeing a bump in the temperatures heading into next week. but a lot of sunny skies and it won't be as cold tonight. now a check of the roads with mike. >> and you showed the clouds between our camera and golden gate bridge. by contrast, we see nothing going on like that, this is nice and sunny as you exit on the oakland side eastbound off of the lower deck. bay bridge has a pretty standard backup at the toll plaza, but lighter down the east shore freeway, lighter because of the summer months. we probably will see that up again school resumes middle of august. over here we're having that resuming, paving work. so they are getting crews in
