back to you. new details this morning about the victims in a deadly crash. this is where the car was split in two. >> it's so hard to go from mike's traffic report to finding out who these people are. friends and family members are devastated because the two young men that died were brothers. pete suratos is live where the crash happened in dublin. pete, a memorial there for the two young men. so sad. >> reporter: very sad set of circumstances. good morning, kris. we're standing here along doherty road. you're seeing the outpouring of support for the family. this is the memorial. you have the candles, flowers and messages to the two brothers who passed away. as far as the details on this crash, it took place tuesday night along doherty road and fall creek in dublin. the driver crashes a bmw into

the tree and light pole. that car bursting into flames. we know the names of the brothers are adam and khalib and they died as a result of this crash. there were folks here at the memorial yesterday. we spoke to one of them. >> simple as it may seem, it's almost a reminder to be more careful. it's also to not take a single day for granted. >> reporter: we're told by friends they had a love for cars and that both brothers were in their 20s. one of them was attending law school. they graduated from doherty high. the last check with dublin pd they believe that excessive speed played a part of the accident. pete suratos for "today in the bay." san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins is

explaining her new policy to crack down on drug users. she announced starting july 3rd people cited for drug use or possession of drugs a second time will be taken to a specialized court called the community justice center. social service workers there will refer those people to drug treatment, mental health programs and job training. jenkins believes this new strategy is absolutely essential. >> we see death rates for overdose still rising. i agree this is the time we need to be taking a stronger approach. it's about getting people help and we need to be doing that now. >> she further explained the new policy. it will allow first offenders to be discharged. repeat offenders will face charges for the first and second offense. community feedback played a big role in this new strategy. tomorrow marks one year since the dobbs decision when

the supreme court overturned roe v. wade. we look at a new nbc poll. 60% of voters remain opposed to that ruling which removed the right to abortion nationally. we want to break it down further. nearly 80% of women voters 49 and younger disapprove. suburban women also disapprove by 66%. 60% of independent voters say it was a bad decision. >> more than 30% of all republican voters also disapprove of that court decision. one health care points out, this impact runs deep, especially in places like rural georgia where now ob/gyn doctors are scared. >> we know that statistically we're going to see a rise in maternal deaths because of this decision. that makes georgia one of the most dangerous places in which to birth in the developed world. >> one of the lawmakers who crafted that bill in georgia says that these days a lot of

people have other options to see a doctor, including telemedicine. other the past year, 23 other states also banned or restricted abortion. some hotly anticipated rulings may be coming down from the u.s. supreme court as this is the last scheduled day of the current term. among the rulings still in limbo, student loan forgiveness. also a case that might ban affirmative action at u.s. colleges and universities which boosts the number of underrepresented minority students. another case, whether businesses can refuse services for lgbtq+ customers. i revolves around a colorado website designer. keep in mind the court can hold off on its rulings until after the term ends.

about, the week of fourth of july, you see a 10% drop in the volume of traffic which corresponds to the time when people are on vacation. the trend looks like it's augmenting this year with airline ticket sales. the weather we have here, why do you want to go anywhere? >> no place like home. the weather is going to be nice. let's look at our forecast. let's go to napa. i wanted to share this with everybody as we do start to make the weekend plans. it's been a wild winter, a spring where we saw the temperatures continue to stay below normal, even as we go into the first couple days of summer. we're seeing a cool 2023 overall and napa has seen almost 130 days where those temperatures have been below average. that's about 75% of this year that's been cooler than average. as we go into the weekend, we're staying below average for today and tomorrow as we go into wine

in canada after canada ordered meta to pay news providers. california, by the way, thinking of passing a similar law. starbucks, workers at more than 150 stores say they plan to walk off the job. here's video of a past union strike. they're protesting a small number of starbucks that restricted the number of pride decorations employees could put up. starbucks says its support for the gay community is, quote, unwavering. bloomberg is warning about the value of commercial buildings is falling fast, but at the same time the interest rates on loans are climbing. they say nowhere is it worse than san francisco. last week westfield said they would turn the mall back over to the loan holders and walk away.

bloomberg says office vacancies have tripped in san francisco compared to prepandemic days. the bay area company that does online transcription says its computer can now predict what employee also say. they've trained ai to join those meetings as a participant. now during the meeting you can ask questions of the artificial intelligence, which the company -- the company is called otter. here's the kicker. they say it's gotten so good at knowing the participants that the day is coming soon where you can send ai to replace you in the meeting. you won't have to go. people as your ai questions. it will answer the way you would have answered. the company's ceo said soon maybe everybody is ai. >> maybe my alter talks to your alter in a meeting. it only pings me when it needs

marine layer in the morning and then some sunshine. we see that in oakland this morning. seeing the fog stick around for the middle of the morning. then we'll see sunshine peek through the clouds. if you find any friday plans out towards half moon bay, redwood city, it will trickle in and then mixing out as we go into the day on saturday. high temperatures today, pretty similar to what we were dealing with yesterday. 60s in the north bay. low 70s as we make our way into concord and fairfield as well as the south bay. 66 out in santa cruz for today. tomorrow just a touch warmer as we go into the day with 78 in fairfield. 68 in haywood. 68 in santa cruz. 78 in morgan hills. you get the picture. we're starting to warm things up as we go into the first weekend

of summer. we'll be seeing mid to upper 70s in the north bay by sunday. this is because high pressure is starting to build from the north corners. as we go into the second half of the weekend, into the first couple days of the week, we'll see temperatures in san jose start to climb and look at by next weekend we could be talking about upper 80s near 90 degrees. we'll keep an eye on the warmup. san francisco will be beautiful for the pride parade sunday. let's go to the tri valley. how are things looking, mike? things are great. there's a lighter flow of traffic, even on friday lighter than school time traffic. we don't see much slowing in the south bay or the peninsula. we have an easy drive across the

police are searching for a man who shot and killed another man as they stepped from union square. >> this happened at the powell street bart station last night. riders were left in utter shock because they witnessed it. ginger conejero saab is live in san francisco. ginger, with so many people having witnessed that, do police have any arrests? >> reporter: no arrests have been made as of this morning. it remains an open and active investigation. it happened around 8:30 last night. officers say they arrived at the transit plaza below the ground level to give aid to the man who was shot. the victim was brought to the hospital where sfpd confirmed he later died. now the police issued a statement last night with some details. they say they were all preliminary. witnesses shed a bit more light as to what allegedly led up to the fatal shooting. >> i hear a guy give a young lady a compliment, tell her how

beautiful she looks. nothing happened. everything kept going. next thing you know it's time to get to the stop. the dude said something else. the guy who gave the compliment responded back and the guy shot him twice in the chest, over the girl. >> reporter: the investigation into the fatal shooting continues this morning. no arrests have been made which is why sfpd is asking the public if you know anything about this contact the tip line. you can see the number there on your screen. you can text or call. the powell street bart station it is right in the heart in the middle of downtown. it's across the street from westfield, blocks away from union scare and steps away from the cable car turnaround. it's another blow to downtown

san francisco. marcus and kris? >> thank you so much, ginger. happening today a pretrial hearing in the case of a suspect in a deadly san francisco attack that sparked so much anger across the nation. antoine watson pleaded not guilty to the murder of this man. he died in early 2021 from injuries suffered after he was shoved to the ground. his death spotlighted what turned into a wave of anti-asian crime and a national movement raising awareness. along with shock, so many unanswered questions this morning after the confirmation that all five people aboard the tour submarine died from a sudden implosion shortly after going missing sunday. for days the story held the world's attention. the coast guard saying the sub imploded shortly after its last communication with control teams. this is as it dove 12,000 feet

underwater to view the "titanic" wreckage. the u.s. navy saying surveillance equipment picked up the blast when it happened. because the evidence was not definitive, the coast guard kept searching. >> from what we observed, we understand that this was a catastrophic implosion. that would have generated a pressure wave and we didn't hear any of that throughout the whole search when we had sonar in the water. we're continuing to use data and information to look at that. >> the coast guard saying that debris is located about 1,600 feet from the "titanic." most experts agree retrieving it may be too great of a challenge. we are celebrating pride all month long at nbc bay area. we're looking live at san francisco. a lot of events happening over the next few days leading up to

also, there was hunter biden. a house committee released new details about its investigation into the president's son which it says includes a chat message from hunter biden to a chinese businessman where hunter said, i will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge, that you will regret not following my direction. now the implication is that the man sitting next to him was joe biden, though, there's no proof joe biden was there at the time of the message. at the time of the message he was not in office. hunter biden does seem to be trying to benefit from his father's name. finally former top trump aid michael brown pictured here yesterday on his way to meet a federal grand jury in washington, d.c., run by special counsel jack smith looking into trump's involvement into january 6th. brown was accused of being

the bay. very thick in san francisco. we should see it start to push back along the coastline by the middle of the day. we'll see the cloud cover through san francisco through half moon bay and possibly through santa cruz and monterey. if you have any plans to head out, it's also going to be chilly. tonight we have a chance of patchy drizzle into the start of the weekend on saturday. it's the weekend after all. we made it to friday. how about the almeda county fair. runs through july 9th. you have a good amount of time to get out there. as far as the rest of the bay area, 69 if your plans take you to napa. 71 in freemont. 75 in morgan hills. as we go into tomorrow and sunday, we'll see the temperatures bump up a few degrees.

77 in fairfield. 67 in san francisco for the pride parade sunday. 78 in morgan hill. notice we are starting the warming trend. it will continue over the next couple weeks developing as we go into the first couple days of july, which is why the climate prediction center put the bay area right there in the orange color representing temperatures that might go above average while the south continues to deal with triple digit heat. the high pressure will build and connect with another ridge of high pressure moving in from the west. that will give us the bump up to make it feel like summer. we have a couple days to go. we'll start with morning fog in the inland valleys. warmup gradually as the week goes on into the 80s. finally the 80s make a return. the weekend forecast for san francisco looks great. we'll see nice temperatures for the second half of the week. we have changes on the bay bridge.

what's going on? it's friday so the changes we see as we approach 7:00 is traffic is lighter than 6:30. this will build again starting about 10:00. it's a lighter volume right now. a lot of folks heading into the city for pride. keep that in mind. a minor crash reported around the toll plaza. i'll track that. the rest of the bay shows an easy, light drive. nothing blocking the freeway flow. south county is showing a build around dunn. nothing dramatic right now. santa clara university at cupertino high school it's the opening ceremony for the special olympics. go check that out. >> my daughter is going to be life guarding there. super cool. happening now, san jose

6:57. we want to welcome you back and we look at the top stories on "today in the bay" including the deadly shooting near union square. >> it was near the powell street bart station. witnesses say the gunman was leaving the station along with a woman and shot a man who got off the same train. police not confirming any of those details, but say no arrests have been made. that memorial is growing at the site where two brothers died in a car crash tuesday night. it happened in dublin on doherty road. the car striking that tree and light pole at high speed and burst into flames. mourners say the two men are from san ramone. the driver was 25 years old. a live look at san francisco
