>> reporter: good morning, frances. yes, on friday the leader and founder of the wagner group fighting in ukraine suddenly turned his men around and launched an armed rebellion against russia after he claimed that the russianarmy fired at his mercenaries. then his men easily crossed the board noor russia and gained control of the city of rostov before they started marching towards moscow facing little or no resistance from the russian army but when they were only 120 miles from the russian capital prigozhin stopped the advance saying that he didn't want to spill russian blood. later it emerged that he did sign a deal with vladimir putin brokered by alexander lukashenko the leader of belarus where prigozhin is believed to be now, frances. >> what could this mean for putin's rule going forward >> reporter: well, even if prigozhin in the end stopped the advance for whatever reasons, we don't know the terms of the deal

in which that paramilitary group led by yevgeny prigozhin called off an armed rebellion on its way to moscow and president vladimir putin despite the widespread shock from the rest of the world over these events some in washington went into weekend with advanced knowledge. a source confirmed to nbc news on sunday that the group of congressional leaders known as the gang of eight were briefed on the situation in russia last week while the intelligence at the time was not definitive, it showed that prigozhin had been planning a challenge to russia's military leaders meanwhile, the white house says it's been closely monitoring the situation since it began with president biden holding a call with the leaders of france, germany and great britain on secretary. here is what secretary of state antony blinken said about the situation on "meet the press" on sunday >> the president brought together the national security dab net, brought together our key allies and partners to make sure the unit of purpose and action that we have had with regard to ukraine remains and it

when i came here i myself had a lot of anxiety so having the dog has helped me. >> reporter: john lee is an inmate at oshkosh correctional and is part of the team that helps care for the dogs during their life inside the prison in addition to helping his anxiety he says working in the dog program has taught him teamwork and patience, skills he hopes to use to give back when he is released. >> when i get out i'd like to just volunteer, you know, working at a dog shelter or help train dogs or use some of the skills that i learned here. >> reporter: journey together service dog runs the program it teaches inmates how to train the dogs and ultimately delivers the dogs to clients. journey together president pam shubert says inmates help train the dogs for a variety of roles but the dogs primarily help people suffering from ptsd. >> the more that we can help them get back to going out in public, going to the store or going to busy places, the better life that they are going to have if we can help one person have a better life that's what we are doing the work for. >> reporter: jeremy says he's serving time for robbery and has

been helping train dogs for just shy of a year and hopes his involvement in the program will help make up for his past. >> it makes me feel good personally knowing that i'm doing something to pay back some of the wrong that i've done. >> reporter: he says he's seen service dogs make a big difference fofr people with his nephew who lives with autism and says he's glad to know his work can make people's lives better >> we're given an amazing opportunity to help someone and i don't think any of us take that very lightly. just because we made mistakes doesn't mean we can't be better in the future and doesn't mean we can't help create things better for other people. >> mutually beneficial but the dogs i'm sure love it and they're getting trained and for inmates the turnaround and camaraderie they have with them, too. >> i love the outlook that we may have made a mistake but we can atone along the way. a florida teen is finally back on the water two years after a nasty accident nearly cost him his life.
