friday. >> especially with you not being here monday. >> it's hard work. >> off all week last week. >> well rested. >> we're well rested. let's keep that going. how are we doing forecast-wise? >> it's going to be hard to sleep this weekend because it's going to be so hot. >> i'll find a way. >> here is a live look outside in dublin. we are starting out with clouds. it's going to clear out quickly today. a little more quickly than we've seen recently. we're going from 54 degrees to 65 at 11:00 and continuing to warm up. overall it's still a really nice day. take a look at our highs reaching 77 there, and all of these numbers basically about what we typically see for this time of year, by the end of june into early july. we're also going to have our first big spike in temperatures for the season as morgan hill reaches 90 degrees tomorrow and even hotter on friday. so we'll talk about how hot it gets this weekend in a few minutes. mike, we had an unusual

traffic pattern in the south bay. >> the slowing we expect north 101, from 680 past oakland road. then another slowdown happens, you see the airport right here, and northbound 101 shows it quite a bit through the area. it looks like more than a burst of traffic. i think there's activity going on just north of de la cruz. i'm checking with san jose pd. there were construction crews and scott mcgrew told me about north 87 around the airport, so there may be crews moving through the area. right now that's the slow drive. you're clear once you get to mountain view, palo alto. that's the only surprise out there right now. >> back to you. historic reparations, it has been a controversial topic in san francisco which has garnered national headlines for its list of recommendations, including cash payments for eligible black san franciscans. >> it's received support from

the board of supervisors in recent months. "today in the bay"'s ginger conejero saab is in san francisco with a look at what's next. good morning, ginger. >> reporter: good morning, laura and marcus. today the conversation over reparations continues. as you mentioned, there has been support voiced by the board of supervisors for reparations. they actually even voted unanimously over a draft resolution back in march. but that draft resolution was nonbinding. in april, mayor london breed voiced her opposition to creating an office for reparations for city hall. that has taken a little bit of a back step. then in june, the budget and appropriations committee held a special meeting where they did not support the $50 million price tag of creating that new office. now, supervisor walton, who has been spearheading these efforts amended his request to $10 million, but that still did not get support. that's why groups like the san

francisco african american reparations committee is making a push today at the city's budget hearing. that hearing takes place at 9:30 this morning. a final report is expected to be submitted to the mayor, to the board of supervisors and the human rights commission in a couple of days. the deadline for that is on june 30th. we'll be monitoring the hearing at 9:30 and updating on nbcbayarea.com. laura and marcus, back to you. >> thank you, ginger. 6:04 right now. developing story, dozens of families forced out of their homes after an apartment fire leaves them with nowhere to stay. it started just after 5:00 yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on east 14th street in san leandro. firefighters think it started in a unit on the third floor. they were able to put it out quickly, however firefighters are still looking into what caused it. all 52 units are red tagged, leaving more than 160 people without a place to sleep for the night. >> my baby is just in pampers

and a shirt, no shoes. it's bad, it's bad. it's very uncomfortable. you know, i don't know how it started, but i know it started in her house and right next door to me. my god's grace and mercy, my house was spared. >> firefighters say they do not know when families will be allowed back in the building. people were told to pack three days worth of clothing. california senator alex padilla will be in the area talking about hate crimes. he's expected to visit the san francisco lgbtq center amidst a rise in hate crimes. his trip comes as just yesterday state attorney general rob bonta released numbers showing incidents against lgbtq community were up 29% last year compared to 2021. senator padilla is expected to meet with local leaders and professionals to discuss youth mental health support. shifting our focus to decision 2024, president biden and the republican presidential

candidates are ramping up this week while the goop contenders try to stay on message. former president trump's problems are hanging over the race. brie jackson joins us live from washington. the fallout over president trump's leaked audio recordings continues to make news. >> reporter: that's right. good morning. so in the leaked audio recording, you can hear former president trump apparently discussing a classified pentagon document. now, a spokesperson from the trump campaign insists that the recording proved that the former president did nothing wrong. former president trump blasting the leaked audio recording of him discussing a classified document he kept after leaving office. >> what was said was absolutely fine and very perfect. we did nothing wrong. this is a whole hoax. >> reporter: in the recording obtained by nbc news, trump is heard talking about what appears to be a sensitive military document, even acknowledging he did not declassify it when he

was president. >> it is highly confidential, secret. this is secret information. >> reporter: the former president was indited on 37 criminal counts related to his handling of classified documents. he claims the federal case has done more to help, not hurt his 2024 presidential bid. >> this wasn't in the playbook, but because the public is really smart, my numbers went up. >> reporter: a recent nbc news poll shows mr. trump remains the front-runner among republican candidates, some of whom are working to separate themselves from his policies and legal issues. >> president trump was almost singularly focused on our trade relationship with china. he was right about our trade abuses. it was and still is a critical issue. but trump did too little about the rest of the chinese threat. >> if this election is about biden's failures and our vision

for the future, we are going to win. if it's about relitigating things that happened two, three years ago, we're going to lose. >> reporter: president biden is ramping up his re-election bid, holding multiple fundraisers this week. today president biden will travel to chicago and highlight his economic vision for the future, laura. >> thank you so much, brie. 6:08 right now. a live look this morning at sfo. this is where the busiest travel week of the summer is off to a rough start. 1,700 flights canceled, 5,600 delayed nationwide yesterday. want to show you video from newark airport where some people have been waiting more than five hours to get their luggage. others here in the bay area have been just waiting since sunday night because of those delays and cancellations. so the weather problems started back east with thunderstorms. the faa is also dealing with staffing shortages, especially with the control towers.

nbcbayarea.com and find it as well. >> the pressure of getting out my phone and running to the tv. high pressure, low pressure, let's check in with kari hall. >> all of that going on, especially across the country. now we are seeing that severe weather winding down for the east, but there is a new storm system pushing across the midwest. we'll have to watch for that in missouri and heading toward illinois and eventually indiana. the big story nationwide has been the heat across the south where they're dealing with record high temperatures for a prolong period of time. and the heat index values have been pushing well over 100 degrees in much of texas, louisiana and over toward the southeast. now, here in the bay area we're going to get a blast of hot temperatures for the weekend. heat advisories going up for the inland parts of the bay area, excessive heat watches in effect for the central valley. we're going to talk about how hot it gets in a few minutes. mike has a look at where you can find lower gas prices before you hit the road.

>> a lot of folks are hitting the roadway between now and including next tuesday. we found a good deal in vallejo. $4.06 at the costco on plaza drive. in alameda county it's dublin, $4.09 at the exxon and circle k on amador valley boulevard. in santa clara, it's platinum gas on washington street, that's at $4.23. the few other prices are cheaper in the south bay. on the roadways, we have the slower drive in san jose. i still didn't find a reason why, it's just slow past the airport for north 101. there was an earlier crew through the area of 87 right around the airport. they may be clearing right now and that might be why, equipment is causing a slowdown. nothing listed on the chp incident report. i'll double-check to see if caltrans is working. >> thanks, mike. one silicon valley giant apparently ready to refocus. next, google rethinks its vision

the time is 6:14 on this wednesday morning. let's head over to antioch. it's a breezy start to the day and temperatures are nice and cool. a few clouds here and there, but it's going to clear out a lot more quickly than we'll see for the coast and it's going to warm up. we're going from mid-50s to 80 degrees at 1:00, and it will be a warmer afternoon. so we'll take a look at where we're heating up, where we'll have mild weather in the microclimate forecast coming up. we are looking at a buildup, a little more traffic at the toll plaza, west 580 heading from richmond toward san rafael. we see slowing because of the build on the upper eastshore freeway. we'll show you things in the south, things are slowing 101 heading past the airport. good morning. very happy wednesday to you. president biden will speak about

the economy today. the ceo of fifth third bank, the nation's tenth largest bank, says it will no longer lend money for commercial real estate. we may see more banks do this. the ceo of microsoft will be in court defending his company's attempts to buy the video game company activision. the "wall street journal" reporting the commerce department is considering new restrictions on chips sent to china. particularly chips from santa clara's nvidia. they're used for artificial intelligence. their stock may suffer this morning. canada is adjusting immigration rules to seamlessly except h1 b visa holders from america. people come here on special talent visas, ph.d.s, engineers, all kinds of smart people, but if they lose their jobs because of a layoff, their ability to stay in america vanishes, too. they have to pull their kids out of school, sell the house.

it's a problem. it's also a drain on the american economy. i've interviewed any number of immigrants who were here on h1 b or student visas who contribute major scientific advancements and have to leave. canada did something similar during the global financial crisis of 2009. people forced to leave america could move to canada, so long as they could support themselves while they looked for that new canadian job. speaking of jobs, there are layoffs to tell you about. the journal says robinhood will cut 7%, software company new relic and ilumina have warned the state they're going to shed workers. a popular twitter account that tells you about the conditions on the road to tahoe will go dark. twitter has been cracking down on twitter bots. laura, you tipped me off to this. i contacted the guy who makes it. he was too shy to go on camera, but he said twitter leadership

is free to attempt to monetize the platform any way they see fit. but i think the work that people like me did for free made twitter a slightly more valuable property overall. he just programmed it to read the weather reports and then it would spit it out. it was a bot, there's no question it was a bot. but it did something good. he can pay twitter to let him do it, but obviously he doesn't want to do that. >> doesn't make sense. >> it was helpful. >> yeah. >> got to look it up myself now. >> thanks, scott. >> then i'll put it out there on twitter. new this morning google is pulling the plug on its augmented reality glasses. google announced its glasses back in january with a hope they would hit the market in 2024. now after many playoffs, the company has put the project on pause. google will now focus on selling it's ar software to other companies. this all comes after apple introduced its own vision pro

headset earlier this month. those ar glasses cost more than $3,000. let's talk about artificial intelligence. it has many uses. it can be a tool for work, it can help you plan vacations. but one colorado couple took the ai capabilities to a whole new level. >> with great joy and utmost honor, i pronounce you partners in love. >> that is so romantic. because of the battery. >> that's a good one. powering down. . no ai for your weather. we've got the real thing, meteorologist kari hall here. >> it's going to be downright hot this weekend in the inland valleys. i don't know if you'll find that on the app. let's get a look at gilroy, as we get started. it's nice and cool, it's mostly cloudy. but it will start to clear out a little more quickly as we head toward 8:00 to 9:00, and the rest of the day it's bright and sunny. temperatures start to warm up heading into the early afternoon. here is a look at our microclimates where temperatures will reach into the low 80s in the north bay. not much of a change in san francisco, upper 60s for san mateo and san jose reaching 77 degrees. the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen, where you're going to see temperatures peaking on saturday, reaching into the low 90s. we're making our way toward hot temperatures starting tomorrow

with a high of 94 in fairfield. so this is what we're starting to turn up the air-conditioning. san jose reaching 85 degrees. about the same in napa. it's still in the upper 60s in san francisco. upper 60s near the coast and upper 90s as you make your way toward fairfield, as well as livermore and morgan hill reaching 97 on friday. we'll see high pressure building in. it's going to shift our wind direction, make it really hot for a couple days. the good thing is that the high pressure keeps on moving and we'll go back to some cooler temperatures in time for the fourth of july holiday. take a look at fairfield and what we're expecting over the next ten days, spiking up to 99 on saturday, 93 on sunday, and then by the fourth of july the high temperature is 81 degrees. while it will be hot inland, i think a lot of people are going to head to the beach. take a look at santa cruz's forecast, reaching into the

upper 60s. really nice and comfortable. a wide range in temperatures once again, as we reach the peak of that heat on saturday, the fourth of july is looking really nice with highs 80 inland and san francisco will see sunshine for the weekend. we may see low clouds rolling back in for the fireworks on the 4th. is it still slow in san jose? >> in the weird section. it's going to start to build over the next 20 minutes. we are looking at north 101 by the airport. we had a very slow stretch. only one of my sources is reporting anything going on. not a lot of detail. they just say there's a crash in the area. chp doesn't have any activity, neither does caltrans. we're watching. it's starting to move more slowly past de la cruz and the airport. but that's the only disturbance for the south bay. anything out of the ordinary is more likely lighter traffic than you might expect. there's a traffic break possible 280 at 84. they're moving a large drill

welcome back. 6:25 this morning. nbc bay area responds to a south bay family whose present for a neighbor disappeared. >> they asked chris chmura's team to perform some magic to get it back. >> good morning. the overtons in saratoga did something sweet for a neighbor, they bought them a $200 vanilla gift card. this went sour. you can use vanilla gift cards anywhere that takes credit cards, but when the neighbor swiped the first time, guess how much of that 200 bucks was still on there? zero. the full balance was gone. the overtons say vanilla wouldn't restore the missing money, so they contacted us. our team contacted vanilla. a rep responded and said our privacy restrictions prevent us from sharing specific details, but we can confirm that we are in contact with mrs. overton to address her concerns. within ten days vanilla made good and sent the overtons a $200 replacement card. we've done so many stories about gift card balances vanishing like sydney in the east bay.

investigation. a huge financial boost coming today for bay area wetlands and waterways. how underserved communities stand to benefit. this is "today in the bay." 6:30 on your wednesday morning. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. we're going to get you started with a look at that forecast. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect when it comes to that big summer warm-up. >> we've been talking a lot about this, and over the next few days it's going to start to get a lot hotter. we have one more day of mild weather, so as you're heading out in richmond, it's right now starting out partly cloudy and temperatures in the mid-50s. as we go into late morning, continuing to clear up. it slowly warms up. it will be another nice day. as we take a look around the bay area, with a high of 79 in martinez, comfortable there, upper 70s for san jose. not much of a change for san francisco with mid-60s. then you can see those numbers going upward tomorrow and even

hitting 90 degrees in concord and in morgan hill. we'll talk about how hot it gets this weekend. mike says you may have a delay out of woodside. >> at 6:30 chp said there was going to be caltrans activity off of the freeway, large equipment to repair some of the damage from earlier in the year. highway 84, the arrow shows you where the sensors are slowing heading away from 280. a large trailer with an even larger piece of equipment sort of extending to the side, that's why they're warning. if you're heading through the area out of woodside and down that portion of 84, that will be where you see the slowing. the freeway itself, 280 moves smoothly. 101 continues with additional slowing, a crash just north of the airport right around lafayette. back to you. >> thanks, mike. the fourth of july is less than a week away, and today is the day a few cities across the bay area are going to have

fireworks on sale. we're talking about the safe and sane fireworks that can be used in a handful of areas. officials are still warning about their dangers. >> "today in the bay"'s emma goss is live in dublin at the location of one of those fireworks booths. she's got the details. >> reporter: marcus and laura, i'm at one of 15 licensed fireworks booths in the city of dublin, that in just a few hours will start selling these safe and sane fireworks. this one in the parking lot outside of safeway on dublin boulevard is run by the dublin high athletic boosters. in the city of dublin you can only use these fireworks between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on july 4th at single-family residences and these four parks you're seeing on your screen. other bay area cities that allow safe and sane fireworks include union city, newark, gilroy, san bruno, pacifica, rio vista,

dixon and cloverdale. police will be stepping up enforcement against illegal fireworks. the penalties for anyone caught selling or using illegal fireworks could include heavy fines for jail time. no fireworks of any type are allowed at multi-housing units, undesignated city parks, city facilities, businesses and schools. and these safe and sane fireworks are available here and at other locations across the bay area up until -- in dublin, at least, up until noon on july 5th. reporting live, emma goss for "today in the bay." >> thank you. police are searching for a motive and suspects after finding two men dead in a crashed car. officials haven't released much information besides the victims were shot in their car, found around 8:30 monday night on alhambra street in vallejo. police have not released the victims' identities.

this morning the santa rosa community is uniting to address an uptick in gang violence. this is following two recent back-to-back shootings. police say on june 16th a 15-year-old was killed on corby avenue and most recently another 15-year-old dead this past weekend on blacksmith way. last night santa rosa police department met with community members to address what's happening. they did share some advice on how to stop kids from joining gangs. >> and to be frank, this isn't just a santa rosa issue. this is across the bay area and across california. but what is clear is we have to come together as a community and work toward solutions and it's going to start with education, with intervention, with prevention, and also enforcement is a part of it as well. >> several arrests have been made in both cases. most of those suspects are teenagers. the youngest, 14.

it's unclear if those two shootings are connected. taking a live look in oakland this morning, happening today more money is going to the bay area waters and wetlands. $52 million will be given to restore the bay area's waters and wetlands. the environmental protection agency, along with representative barbara lee and the east bay regional park district will talk more about this at arrowhead marsh in oakland. the money will fund projects to support the environment and to benefit underserved communities. the latest round of money from the san francisco bay water quality improvement funds. let's get a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. nice day ahead. >> it's going to be a nice day. we've been talking a lot about some high heat ahead. we are going to try to take in and enjoy the mild weather while we do have it. we're headed for 82 degrees today in morgan hill, one of the warmer spots compared to mid-70s in fremont and low 70s in hayward and oakland. novato reaching 80 degrees today.

san francisco reaching 64 degrees. a lot more clouds and also some cooler weather near the coastline. but as you make your way inland, it's going to clear up a lot more quickly. take a look at tomorrow's temperatures, reaching into the 80s and low 90s, upper 90s on friday. that's how we're going to start our weekend and temperatures ramp up and peak on saturday. that will be our hottest day. we're going to take a look at that in just a few minutes, as well as where we can find places to cool off and get some relief. mike, you've been watching a couple of issues popping up out there for the commute. >> another slow spot in the south bay. but two of them are standard. 101 and 87, with the build and the timing, it's 6:37. we're looking toward the airport where that crash, the small crash has resulted in quite a bit of slowing heading north through the area. both 87 and 101 funnel in toward that destination. that could compound things as the south bay commute builds. we'll track that because i don't have any details on that from

chp. i do have another source talking about a crash in the area. we're going with that. the rest of the south bay will have more traffic feeding in off 101, san martin and morgan hill, no surprises. 84, we still have reports of the crew going through the area, moving a large piece of equipment. it is off of 280. it's on 84 out of woodside and it shouldn't impact the morning commute, which is very light on the peninsula right now. we're looking ahead toward the game at the coliseum, keep that in mind, 6:40 game time. the stage may be set for another big time hollywood strike. >> in a matter of hours screen actors may be poised to walk off the job. ahead on "today in the bay," the new star-studded line in the stand as talks go down to the wire. president biden today plans to show off the good american economy, but is america listening? let's take you out to the big board. a rally yesterday, a little money coming offhe table t

bidenomics. >> get used to it. this used to be an insult, the republicans actually came up with the term bidenomics as a way of criticizing the president. but we heard the white house use the term several times yesterday talking about today's trip. indeed, we expect the president will use the term as well. that's because when you look at the raw numbers, the economy continues to steam along. the u.s. council of economic advisers says the u.s. has the fastest growth in all the g7 countries, more than 13 million jobs have been created during biden's term in office. though you do have to take the pandemic into account there. more importantly, unemployment has remained low, but that message just not getting out. 36%, which is not very many of americans, think biden is doing a good job with the economy. now, a lot of that has got to be inflation. at its worst point prices were up more than 9% year-over-year, stimulus money put cash in the

system, chasing too few things because of problems with the supply chain. house speaker kevin mccarthy is redoubling his support for republican front-runner donald trump a day after mccarthy seemed to waiver a bit in an interview with cnbc. >> can he win an election? >> yeah, he can. the question is, is he the strongest to win the election? i don't know that answer. but can somebody -- can anybody beat biden? yeah, anybody can beat biden. can biden beat other people? yes, it's on any given day. >> mccarthy shortly thereafter said trump would beat biden because he said trump is stronger today than he was in 2016. meantime, georgia's secretary of state brad raffensperger will be interviewed by federal investigators from the special counsel's office, jack smith's office. those prosecutors looking into donald trump's role in the january 6th attack. meantime, the state of georgia looking into trump's attempt to change the vote in georgia.

from the cdc about malaria, the disease transmitted by mosquito bites is spreading in the u.s. we're seeing local cases for the first time in 20 years. there are four cases in florida, one in texas. while there's no evidence to suggest they're related, what they do have in common is there's no link to travel abroad. the last time malaria was transmitted locally in the u.s. was back in 2003. all five patients are recovering, but the cdc is warning doctors to be on the lookout for symptoms, as millions of americans prepare to spend their summer days outside. >> we need physicians to understand that they should have some suspicion for malaria, and it's not difficult to diagnose and it's not difficult to treat. the people that die are people that do not get treated in time. >> i know it's hard to do in the summer, but the cdc is urging people to limit mosquito bites

by covering up. they also say use repellant and drain standing water, which serves as a breeding ground for a lot of those mosquitos. >> just seeing that video, you know? >> do we have to show them so close? >> you need that sound in your ear in the middle of the night. >> we talked about people spending more time outside. as the weather warms up, people do tend to gather with family, go around the pool. yeah, we're watching out for hotter temperatures and finally some pool weather for some of our inland valleys. it's still cool today as you're heading out the door in oakland. i want to get you ready for the day with a look at temperatures over the next few hours. we're in the low 50s to start, so jacket weather for now. you'll be taking off that jacket and enjoying some comfortable temperatures for the afternoon, headed for 71 degrees in oakland. as you make your way into the inland east bay it's more like low 80s for livermore, 82 in concord, and 83 in the north bay

as you make your way toward santa rosa, while san francisco stays in the 60s today. that, along with the coastline, will be definitely cooler compared to the ramp-up in temperatures we'll see in the inland valleys. by tomorrow, upper 80s, low 90s for the east bay, hitting 90 in morgan hill and san jose reaching 85 degrees. take a look at friday. we're seeing a lot more 90s here and upper 90s for fairfield and concord and it's going to reach 97 in morgan hill on friday. that's not even the hottest day. we're going to see high pressure directly overhead on saturday, so throughout the weekend the national weather service has issued a heat advisory that begins on friday and continues through monday. and even more extreme heat for the central valley that's going to have an excessive heat watch in effect. the good thing about this high pressure moving in that will give us that blast of heat is it will keep on moving. by the fourth of july we're back to our normal weather pattern

where we get this nice ocean breeze that keeps temperatures a lot milder. take a look at livermore over the next several days. we have the alameda county fair going on, today is still a good day to go. low 90s tomorrow. we're already seeing temperatures jump up another 10 degrees. it's peaking on saturday, reaching 100 degrees and still pretty hot on sunday. but if you plan to go on the fourth of july and watch the fireworks around the city, it's going to be definitely milder and we're headed back to some more seasonable weather by the end of next week. of course, we're focused on the heat and what we'll see for the inland areas, for the weekend dangerous heat for a few days. make sure you're drinking lots of water. never leave your kids or pets inside of a vehicle. make sure you're checking on people who don't have air-conditioning and offer them somewhere to cool off. we'll have our natural air-conditioning in san francisco, only low 70s for the weekend. a lot more sunshine.

mike, you're seeing shifting traffic in the south bay. >> despite a lighter commute, we have typical congestion points and unusual slowing north 101 by the airport. we see slowing, the speed sensors continue between orange and red, so speeds just around 30 miles per hour in general through the area. that's just a pretty short section approaching lafayette. by the time you pass san tomas, everything is clear. north 87 backed off. there was a recovery and now it's just starting to restore for more slowing through the area. 101, the slowing does extend toward capitol expressway. sometimes folks shift around. they both meet, 87 and 101. the best i understand, there's a small crash in the area. nothing on the chp report. no incidents, no fire department, no injuries reported. that is a slow point for the south bay. the rest of the bay shows a typical pattern.

6:56 this morning. welcome back. we are moving you forward with a look at the top stories on "today in the bay." fourth of july less than a week away, and today in a few cities across the bay area, fireworks go on sale. >> bay area cities that allow safe and sane fireworks include dublin, union city, newark, gilroy, san bruno, pacifica, rio vista, dixon and cloverdale. police will be stepping up enforcement. the penalty for anyone caught selling or using illegal fireworks could include heavy fines or jail time. dozens of families are forced out of their homes after an apartment fire in san leandro. this started after 5:00 yesterday at an apartment complex on east 14th street. all 52 units are red tagged, leaving more than 160 people without a place to sleep for the night. firefighters think it started in a unit on the third floor and they are looking into a cause.

san francisco african american reparations committee is making a renewed push at a budget hearing in the city this morning. mayor london breed back in april voiced opposition to creating an office of reparations for the city or for city hall. a few weeks ago, san francisco budget and appropriations committee said that they did not support the $50 million price tag that it would cost to create the office. the final report is due to be submitted to the mayor and board of supervisors and the human rights commission on friday. taking a live look at sfo this morning, where the busiest travel week of the summer is off to a very rough start. 1,700 flights canceled, 5,600 delayed nationwide yesterday. some passengers have been in the bay area since sunday night because of those delays and cancellations. weather problems started back east with thunderstorms. faa is also dealing with staffing shortages, especially at control towers.

officials say before the peak of the travel this weekend things are expected to improve because the severe weather is expected to ease up. and that weather is easing up, making travel easier. >> and by the time it gets hot, they're, like, okay, i'm ready to go back home. we're going to have hotter temperatures moving into our inland parts of the bay area, going from 80 today to upper 90s on saturday. still pretty hot on sunday, too. but it's going to be really nice for the fourth of july, and san francisco is going to finally get a lot more sunshine for the weekend. temperatures in the low 70s. it's going to be comfortable there for the next several days. let's take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. approaching the area, the maze is looking lighter. so is the eastshore freeway. on the bay bridge right around the treasure island tunnel, reports of a motorcycle and a rider standing next to their vehicle. they're over on the left side. hopefully a crew will get over to help them. that might cause slowing on the
