we will talk more about what's ahead coming up in just a few minutes. mike, what do you see at the golden gate bridge? >> well, i saw the cones just before kari started talking, and they moved them to the north. the crew is moving from the bridge already, and there are low clouds around the bridge, and that's what chp warns about. in the north bay, amanzanita park will be closed tomorrow morning for the next week because the tides that are rising because it tends to flood, and i will remind you frequently. back to you. police shot and killed a man in richmond, this after the standoff. the bomb squad was also called

in. >> we have to learn more about what they found today. what are police saying so far? >> we are still waiting for an update from richmond pd, but this was the scene where law enforcement evacuated two homes while the air force base removed a possible explosive device. we are still waiting to hear about what that device might have been and whether or not it was explosive. we should learn more about a deadly police shooting and this is at the richmond home where the device was found. yesterday morning officers were looking for a person threatening somebody with a gun during an argument on sunday. when officers went inside the home they found a person with a gun and there was a confrontation, and multiple officers fired their weapon killing that person. >> it's always unfortunate when

somebody loses their live, but the officers are doing their job and trying to execute a search warrant. >> i didn't see it coming. >> we don't know the name of the man that police shot and killed, but a neighbor tells us that he lived in that home for his mother for several years and he generally kept his distance. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, thank you. 5:04 for you right now. a disturbing trend in san francisco, it involves mothers and caretakers, and the thieves are after their smart phones. you are hearing the screams of a mother. she did not want to be identified for safety reasons. she said she was on her way to pick up her daughter from daycare on monday when she was mugged for her smartphone.

a long road here. today the supreme court is expect to announce rulings, and justices are weighing in on the legality of president biden's plan to cancel $430 billion in student loan debt, and case that may ban affirmative action that boosts a number of under represented minority students. another case, whether businesses can refuse certain services for lgbtq customers. it revolves around a web designer who refused to create a website for same-sex couples. while we are watching the decisions, be sure to download our free nbc bay area app.

the owners of the a's might have to pay up if they go through with their plans to move. any ball club that moves more than 25 miles away, they would be entitled to compensation based on local tax revenue. no word on what that amount would be. the city says the mayor reached out to various stakeholders. we're reaching out to the a's to get their response. let's take a live look at sfo this morning. travelers are still dealing with those major flight delays and cancelations. i want to you check out the luggage you can see right there. the luggage waiting at the terminals. already today 31 flights delayed, 22 cancels and it's expected to get worse. just yesterday 345 flights were

delayed and 108 were canceled at sfo. today is predicted to be the busiest travel day for the fourth of july weekend. the travel mess has been ramping up at the start of the week with airports nationwide struggling with the weather and staffing shortages. one passenger at sfo said he waited all day for a 10:00 a.m. flight that never took off, laura. >> have to be patient out there. you can change the weather with a short drive, if it gets too hot inland head to the coast as the inland valleys will be heating up. 90s for tomorrow and a heat advisory in effect as we head into the weekend for those interior valleys. right now nice and cool as you get ready to get up and head out the door. temperatures in the low 50s in

bloomberg predicting yes tc is going to bring another lawsuit against amazon and this is going to be a big one they say. you remember the government case against microsoft or the break up of ma bell? that big. wednesday we gave aheads up on this before the opening bell. case in point, the chinese spy balloon contained off the shelf american parts, not from nvidia, but washington is very concerned beijing is using american technology against us. a lawsuit just filed in northern california federal court accuses open a.i., maker of chatgpt, of illegally scraping personal information from the internet to teach its large language model. the reason chatgpt can put

together codes and sentences is because it has seen like that sentences before, and in order to do that it has to be fed billions of sentences which they get from the suburb net. the lawsuit says scraping their personal information was done as well, and no response yet from open a.i. >> there was a last-minute push by republicans in sacramento to suspend the tax increase. it was shot down by democrats. other states tried gas tax holidays to discover they don't save consumers money. the price goes down and the tax goes away and people are used to paying the high price, and gas stations take advantage of that and raise the prices where they were. everybody can have a opinion but

sunburn. wear lightweight clothing and a hat. let's talk about how hot the asphalt gets. as the air temperature goes from 77 to 87, it could be as hot as 143 degrees. we are looking at temperatures hotter than this, so it's going to be hot on the asphalt. do not take them out walking on the asphalt during the hottest hours of the day. we are looking at temperatures reaching 86 in dublin, and 86 in martinez. in santa rosa, reaching 88 degrees today. san mateo will have a comfortable 73 degrees. the coastline in san francisco will be much cooler. low 70s here tomorrow, but then take a look at the valley temperatures, up to 99 degrees tomorrow and even hotter on saturday as we are looking at triple digits in concord, livermore and fairfield. it will be hot, and especially that will be the case with an

excessive heat warning in effect for the bay area, and away from the coastline a heat advisory in effect throughout the weekend as the temperatures go up. walnut creek, we are going from 87 on thursday to 95 for the weekend and then back down for the fourth of july. overall our 7-day forecast shows the temperatures ramping up for the weekend and then coming down a few degrees in time for the fourth of july. san francisco is keeping it nice and mild and much more sunshine for the weekend. mike, how is it looking in the tri-valley? >> we are looking at dublin here, and the camera is looking nice and there's a good amount of traffic coming towards the dublin interchange so we are watching for the build. nothing dramatic for 580 where the camera was. northbound, you are down and still open one lane heading north through most of 680 here, and it's southbound where they are closing that exit. last time they did that there

attend a few classes but then fast-forward a year, the charge for the membership automatically renewed. she contacted them and explained she was inactive and wanted her money back. they refunded her dues but kept the $100 fee. they said she agreed to the fee when she signed up for the program. and the owner said because i want to be done with her i issued the $100 refund so she should have all of her money back. they did not have to do that but we are grateful for the goodwill. she admits she forgot about the

forecast kari hall has been tracking. you are talking about the warm-up? >> yeah, we are feeling temperatures coming up several degrees compared to what we had yesterday. we will continue to have high heat going into the weekend with a heat advisory in effect for the next several days starting tomorrow and continuing through sunday with our temperatures in the upper 90s and even reaching 100 degrees. in brentwood we are starting out nice and cool. it's clear, 55 degrees. we can see how the temperature trend goes upward fairly quickly from 55 to 85 at noon and reach into the low 90s for today. we will talk more about the temperatures and what to expect this weekend. mike has a look at the golden gate bridge. >> looking beautiful. notice the low clouds, and they are above the deck, and kari, you knew that but wanted to show the drivers. no surprises for folks coming into san francisco without delay. we will talk about parking in

the north bay. south bay, the tri-valley and no slowing even for vasco even though you are at 22 minutes now from marsh creek to 580. a north bay woman's post about her child almost being kidnapped, and then it was a lie. >> that mother is now being sentenced for making a false police report. she will be in the courtroom later this morning. what are we expecting? >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. we are expecting the sentencing to take place, and prosecutors are asking for 180 days or six months of jail time for the woman that went viral in the video. prosecutors said they are

found to be a false report, and she was found guilty of making a false report to a detective, and her sentencing will happen at 9:00 here at the superior court in santa rosa. more than finding accountability for what happened, this case and its sentencing is important because of the message it sends, which is use social media responsibly and if not there can be serious consequences. we are live in santa rosa, ginger conejero saab for today in the bay. a man accused of stabbing a bakery worker in china town is back in court. it happened last night on aa bakery on stockton street. he appeared at his initial hearing on tuesday, but his

lawyer asked the hearing to be pushed back to today. he's facing attempted murder and deadly assault. the man that killed two parents could be in court. today a judge is expected to make the decision if that driver will be charged as an adult. they were going more than 80 miles per hour when one of the cars crashed into the family's car killing the mother and father. the two 8-year-old girls survived. a man is recovering after being attacked by a swarm of bees in the north bay. the man is about 90 years old. he crashed his model airplane in a row motor field near petaluma, and not too far from a truck of commercial beehives. when he went to retrieve the

plane, he was met with a swarm of bees. >> the bees attacked him and staggered back here, and then he collapsed here and i gave him cpr until the ambulance arrived. >> there was still bees swarming around the patient and first responders, and so we moved him to a safer location where we were able to move him into the ambulance. >> one beekeeper explained once the bee stings you, it puts out fair amoan and then the other bees attack as well. we are told the man is in stable condition. reparations for black californians being talked about as state task force members will present their final proposal to lawmakers. they will layout what

reparations could look like. it comes as lasting impacts of slavery. city leaders will talk about the topic again in september. the ordinance that appropriates $50 million for the reparations is receiving pushback. city officials will encourage the report of illegal fireworks. you can watch an approved fireworks show at discovery meadow and lake park on july fourth. the summer of 2023 is going to be a hot one with temperatures expected to be

above normal. with the holiday weekend right around the corner, it's important to know the warning signs of heat stroke. according to the cdc, more than 700 people in the u.s. die from some sort of heat-related illness every year. extreme heat and humidity can make it hard for the body to cool itself down. meteorologist, kari hall, joins me now, how to identify those suffering from a heat stroke, and with the high temperatures it's a good reminder of do our part and visit information we need. >> the first thing you want to do is find shade, especially if you have to work outside. if somebody is really starting to overheat, help them cool down rapidly with whatever is available, usually water, taking cool showers and things like that really helps. temperatures and -- continue cooling efforts until the temperature drops to 101

degrees. if there's emergency medical personnel, if they are delayed, call the er for help. top of mind is heat exhaustion, and that's more milder than heat stroke. stay hydrated and indoors and near cool areas, if you can. if you begin to feel dizzy or light headed. on this saturday, the hottest day we have seen in quite a long time. we do have cool temperatures to start out the morning. it's going to be at about 66 degrees at registration, and when the race begins it's near 70 degrees. the temperatures will continue to warm up quickly each hour after that as we head for 96 degrees during the afternoon. so once again thank goodness it's early in the day. also looking for events to check out around the bay area this weekend, music on the square in

inside the vehicle, and when it's 70 degrees, in ten minutes it becomes 90 degrees, and we know it's going to be hotter. after an hour at 80 degrees, it's up to 123 degrees. at 90 degrees, which a lot of us will see today inland after just 30 minutes, it's 124 degrees inside the vehicle after an hour, it's 133 degrees. always remember to check the backseat. 84 in napa today, and san francisco in the 60s and low 70s for tomorrow, and reaching up to 99 in concord tomorrow afternoon. the same in morgan hill and san martin. on saturday, the peak of the heat, we could see triple digits in the hottest spots in the inland valleys, while the coastal areas could be in the 70s. for the fourth of july, the

temperatures start to come back down back into the 80s while san francisco will see 70s throughout the weekend. mike, you are seeing slowing in the south bay? >> with the notes about the temperatures, i didn't realize it got that hot so quickly even when it's 70 outside. folks, we are looking over here toward the slowing, well below 70 for northbound 101. we will check that and make sure there are no incidents. north bay highway 37, highway 4 and the bay bridge toll plaza all usual suspects. we are starting to see speeds dip a little bit heading in towards richmond. here's westbound 80 at the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights are on and there are slow spots but no surprises. san francisco mayor london breed confirming a $30 million boost to go to buying and installing 18 electric charging
