ahead in a live report, what firefighters are saying about possible links to late-night fires. >> it's senseless, you had people come into a family environment with guns and start shooting randomly. >> in some cities, including here in the bay area, gun violence chatters the long holiday weekend. we'll take you live to the white house where president biden has a new push to bring about lasting change. and the urgent call to give blood, summertime often means the lowest donation period of the year. how can you make a difference? we can tell you it's as soon as today. stick around, because much more ahead right here on "today in the bay." wednesday morning is here, and so are we. want to say good morning. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we'll say good morning to mike in just a moment, or now, and we'll also say good morning to kari hall. it was a nice night for all the outdoor activities. >> yeah, the weather really worked out.
5:02 am
that's the good thing. we're going to continue with a cooldown across the bay area, as you get ready to head out the door. take a look at gilroy, where we're starting right now, temperatures in the low 50s. it will be a cloudy morning. the rest of the day the sky clears out and temperatures will warm up very slowly. we're only going to reach up to 80 in san martin, in oakland today reaching 69 degrees. we'll be in the low 80s for livermore, with santa rosa reaching 77. tomorrow, even cooler in some spots, with highs in the low 70s in napa and 71 in hayward. we'll talk about what to expect the rest of the week coming up. mike, you've got your eyes on the bay bridge already. >> i'm watching the bay bridge volume to see if we can get a clue as to what the commute might be like in store today. a smooth drive right now, a little glow but no problem with the fog. easy drive coming through the east bay. we are looking at one of the major clues not yet up here in

5:05 am
now, for those who left the work up to the professionals, they were not disappointed, at least here in san francisco. the weather was just right. it cleared up enough for almost a full half hour of spectacular fireworks along the iconic waterfront. thousands came out. some for the first time to enjoy rockets blasted from those four barges, exploding in the air, leaving a trail of color and magnificence. the pier team had to adjust to work around the fog lay thar threatened the show and it worked. >> i love it. it's my first time. i'm enjoying it so far. >> just enjoy the show. >> reporter: just enjoy the show. a lot of people did just that. there were no major security issues along the waterfront or along the pier last night for that show. the only kind of issue was getting out of san francisco and
5:06 am
back to other parts of the bay area, where people came from, after the show. now, the cleanup continues this morning. we'll be getting a better look at that as the morning continues, guys. >> as that guy said, enjoy the show. at least they could see the show this year. thanks, ginger. well, developing right now, multiple people are injured, this is after a late-night gunfire at a home in hayward. this happened about 10:30 when some fourth of july events were still going strong. nbc bay area sky ranger caught the aftermath at the home on ranker place near saint rose hospital. police will only confirm several people were shot, all are expected to survive. so far, there's no word about possible motives or potential suspects. we are following breaking news out of louisiana this morning, where yet another mass shooting in the u.s. happened. we hate to tell you about it this morning, but it happened late last night in shreveport,

call for blood donations during what hospital workers call trauma season. the nonprofit blood bank is urging people to donate because donations typically are the lowest around this time of year when blood is at a premium because of injuries from more outdoor activities. >> here in the bay area we need at least 500 donations per day to help meet the needs of local patients, whether one person needs that blood more than another person or if they can wait. those are choices that we don't want doctors ever to make, so we're really encouraging everyone to take the time, donate blood. >> if you have the urge today or you have some time, the group will set up a mobile unit at westfield oakridge shopping center on blossom hill road. go to our home page to view the schedule for more donation centers through the rest of the month as well. 5:10 this morning. let's take a live look out at san francisco. look at the bay bridge there.

a federal judge in louisiana is restricting the biden administration from contacting social networks to allow what they do or don't do online. it comes from the western district of louisiana but has effect nationwide. the judge says the cdc, health and human services and fbi shouldn't talk with social networks like twitter or facebook about, quote, encouraging, pressuring or inducing in any manner the removal, deletion, suppression or reduction of content containing protected free speech. in the past, various agencies like the surgeon general have worked with social networks over false claims about vaccines, though far short of the coordinated effort some conservatives, including elon musk, have claimed. this is, though, one of the rare situations where claims of the right to free speech actually apply. most of the time when people get their posts taken down, they claim it violates their first amendment rights, but twitter doesn't have to respect your first amendment rights because they're not a government. in the case in front of the

this time in july, but we're going to settle into this pattern, a strong ocean breeze means coastal fog and highs there only in the low 60s, which continues into tomorrow. some of our hotter spots are only reaching into the low 80s, so it's really nice. we can just leave the air-conditioning off as well on friday and going into the weekend. only a slight warm-up over the next several days as we take a look at palo alto. and it's going to reach into the upper 60s this weekend, low 70s for monday and then into the 80s next week. it does take a while before we go back to more seasonable weather. for some of our inland valleys, we'll go from 70s to 80s and then eventually up to 90 degrees next tuesday. but not much of a change in san francisco. mike, you're starting with the early commute out of the north bay. >> the early commute comes out of petaluma, santa rosa, we don't have any slowing or

5:27 am
it did then two things, fixed the system so it works properly, and sent him a check for $543 to make up for high electric bills. better earth told us this, it was certainly a longer process than we would have liked and we take full ownership over his experience. he saved his screen shots showing his energy production and consumption. that evidence helped us make the case. yet another reminder, document everything when you're unhappy with a product or service. good paper trails often lead to great refunds. if a consumer issue is derange your energy, let us know. snap this qr code on your screen to fill out our consumer complaint form online. >> thanks, chris. next, top stories we're following for you today, which include warnings, illegal fireworks seen and heard across much of the bay area really late into the night. we'll have a look at the activity still getting the most attention this morning.
