of starvation. >> that was sad. let's move on. this is the east bay overlooking walnut creek. no air-conditioning you are saying today, kari? >> you can see it there, we have natural air-conditioning, and that comes in the form of the morning clouds we see blanketing the bay area. we can see it's mostly cloudy, but at least visibility is clear as you are crossing the san mateo bridge. our morning commute starts out in the bay area in the upper 50s and the clouds linger a little longer today, but as we head into the afternoon once the valleys clear out we will head for the mid to upper 70s. only a few spots reaching the upper 80s like morgan hill. hayward reaching 69 degrees, and for napa, a high of 79 degrees. tomorrow about the same, but maybe slightly warmer like san josé heading for 81 degrees. still, comfortably warm across the bay area. we will talk about the weekend

with ease. the economy is doing surprisingly well. americans tend not to think that but the data shows it should. the fed continues to think the economy is running too hot. the most recent numbers show the decision to pause interest rates was not as unanimous as we thought. there were some that thought the economy needed more cooling. one thing cooling is the number of americans quitting jobs. in the last report, 4 million americans quit their jobs, and that's a million a week. as we were talking in politics, the u.s. is trying to normalize relations with china after years of tension, and at the same time we are coming up with new

development begins. trending for you this morning, let's talk about this. a california mother welcoming four kids to the family, quadruplets. >> yeah, a little superstitionen there. she delivered them on the fourth of july, and the mother of the four newborns says four could be her new lucky number. two boys and two girls, and three coming in weighing more than 4 pounds. wow. good for her. and four different icu teams were called in to help, neonatal teams there. the mother said the number four keeps repeating itself in her life. >> today my sister was grabbing stuff from the grocery store, and the total was 44.44. i don't know what we are supposed to be getting from the number four, but there's

something. i don't know. >> once the babies make it hope, they will have a 3-year-old brother waiting for them. >> and he's about to turn 4. >> yeah, and in the japanese culture, four is a bad luck number. but clearly for her, four is a wonderful number. >> it will help her, believe me, having the 3-year-old that will turn four, and so many times i wished, can somebody bring me something? >> an extra pair of hands. we are seeing a lot of clouds and cooler temperatures around the bay area as we see a thicker marine layer. that is those coastal clouds that roll inland. as the morning goes on it retreats back to the coastline. we are seeing it spread across the bay area. i'm matching now, and looking at
6:22 am
san francisco. we will see that linger throughout much of the morning. only peeks of sunshine here, and that's going to keep the temperatures from only reaching into the low 60s for today. let's zoom into the south bay with a look at our highs this afternoon. we will reach 81 in morgan hill, and one of the warmer spots compared to the 75 in san josé. a breeze picking up as we go into this afternoon. oakland will see a high of 66 today. danville hitting a high of 74, and 79 in antioch. mostly cloudy today, and clearing up for san mateo, so warmer and reaching 68 there. san francisco, a lot of low clouds and fog and temperatures reaching 62 downtown. mill valley, some clearing with a high of 64. definitely much more sunshine and hotter temperatures for ukiah reaching 90 degrees. it's hot today, and the temperatures come down a few degrees for the weekend. as we look ahead to when the
6:23 am
heat returns, it will be next weekend. look at that. 102 degrees next friday. enjoy this upcoming weekend. we are also seeing milder weather across the bay area with our inland temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and you can see that heating trend that will be with us for the middle of next week. for san francisco, not as much of a change here. the coastal fog and the marine layer will keep our temperatures in the 60s. mike, do you have a traffic break? what is going on in oakland? >> still have a traffic break, so no break for the riders. no access on southbound 880. you see the northbound side slowing and i think that's from distraction. the crash is on the southbound side. there was a vehicle in the slow lane and another in the center divide, so they had to close traffic to pull, i believe, everything off the roadway for the right side. this has been going on a few minutes and the backup is holding just shy of 7th street.
6:24 am
the northbound side could be the distraction. 580 is clear. we hope this other crash clears. the bay bridge toll plaza has a backup finally all the way back to the over crossing. >> everybody woke up. >> what a difference a few days makes. a well known infectious disease expert helping us during covid is helping us head out after the pandemic. ahead she will break down her new book about how to prerepa

6:34 am
>> bob redell joins us from castro valley, where a new fire burns close to a home. that scene is clear? >> reporter: this is westridge court, a small neighborhood where around 10:30 last night there was a brushfire that started in the brush behind these homes. we spoke with one family and they had to briefly move their cars and evacuated their house because they were not sure where the fire was going. they credit the alameda fire department for keeping that fire from spreading to the neighborhood. no determination of the cause, but definitely an indicator of how dry things have become especially after last week's heat wave. two homes caught fire during the fireworks. this is one fire that engulfed the garage, and the family was
6:35 am
able to get out safely. the next fire happened about a three-minute drive away, and that was a couple hours later on 5th street near angus avenue in san bruno. that home has been tagged and restricted for entry because of the damage. and they all got out okay as well. >> i said, did anybody get hurt or anything? you hate to see anybody -- you know, you can recover from the loss of property and all that, but having somebody, you know, hurt or dead or something would be horrible. >> reporter: again, nobody was hurt. neighbors at the second location at the 5th street near angus avenue said their street did not even light off fireworks and they are asking what led to that destruction here. from castro valley, bob redell. >> thank you.
6:36 am
and then a grass fire triggered mandatory evacuations in wine country. skyranger flew above it yesterday afternoon. the fire burned about eight acres and evacuation orders were lifted last night. and then a heartbreaking story, a 2-year-old child died after being run over from a car backing out from a driveway. the driver was a 25-year-old family friend and was not under the influence. in oakland, a police investigator is expected to be arraigned on perjury and bribery charges. the sentences were later overturned for two men sentenced to life, and he's accused of paying a witness thousands of dollars tomorrow lie on the stand and lying on the stand

himself. if convicted, he could face up to six years in prison. and then a scare on a flight to maui. a bomb threat was sent by air drop. the incident happened on monday. a flight attendant received a photo on her cell phone indicating there was a bomb onboard. after a search of all passengers and their luggage the plane was allowed to continue on to hawaii six hours later. so far no arrests have been made. a tragedy at sfo ten years ago today. asiana airlines crashed on the runway, and three were killed and 87 other passengers were hurt. >> we asked consumer reporter, chris chmura, about this.
6:38 am
what stands out for you? >> some things worked and some things did not. i will show you a picture from overhead. you can see the slides down here worked, but the ntsb said the slides up here on these doors inflated inside the airplane and blocked the exit. to me that is a lesson for us that when you are sitting there and the flight attendants are doing their briefing, you should put your eye on two exits, the two closest exits, and then count the number of rows it takes to get there in case it's dark or smoky. >> okay, we learn from the bad. what about the good. what worked? >> the seat belts. the only people ejected from the plane back here in row 41, they were not wearing their seat belts. the airlines say wear your seat belts at all-time, and the new thing, threads, american
6:39 am
airlines' first thread was buckle those belts. let me show you a picture from inside the airline. look at the overhead bins. most of them stayed closed and that's a feat because carry on baggage falling is a common thing. and then outside the plane, there's a lesson here. it's amazing most people walked away, but the problem is some people took carry on baggage with them down the slides. every second you spend getting your bag is a second you should be spending getting out of the plane as soon as possible. the thing is the fire did not start immediately, but if it had those people grabbing their bags could have costs the people behind them their lives because smoke kills in airplane crashes.
6:40 am
the bottom line lesson for that is leave your bags behind for your sake and the sake of your fellow passengers. >> yeah, seconds count. i remember thinking that when people were coming out with their bags. >> you have heard it a million times, the safety. previously, sometimes the oxygen mask will drop automatically, and in the new planes they don't. listen up for something new. >> thank you, chris. >> have a great day. >> you, too. new for you, all parks in marin county will now be free to enter. this decision to make the parks free comes in the name of equity. the changes went into affect july 1st, and so back in 2015
6:41 am
the county eliminated admission fees for people entering on foot or bicycle, and this move could mean the loss of more than $400,000 in revenue. supporters argue that a new quarter cent sales tax should fill the void. and a lot of people had time off for the fourth of july holiday, but what will the weather be like. >> this weekend, it could be cooler so you may head out to the alameda county fair. that continues today as well, and if you start your weekend early, leann rhymes is hitting the stage. temperatures will dip quickly, and it will be a chilly evening. we have the art walk happening in san josé tomorrow night. it will be in the upper 60s as
6:42 am
we go into the evening, enjoying the dinner and walking around downtown. we will also see temperatures cooling down to the 50s. for the warmer weather, head to paso robles, and it will be in the 80s for a high and then the 90s for the rest of the weekend. we are keeping it mild in big sur, about 70 degrees throughout the weekend. mike, any updates? >> one of my sources say there may be traffic getting off the freeway at 7th because of all the backup. this crash still registers on the chp report as all lanes blocked south of jackson for the crash. damage to all vehicles but no injuries being reported. 580 is clear, so if you need to travel through the area and you are able to get over to 580, that's not a problem through oakland. we have the build for 580 towards the plaza as typical,
