5:02 am
southbound 880 somewhere around 16th and they were hit by a big rig. sadly one life was lost at the trash and they just reopened the scene, and that was quick as the coroner arrived on the scene. there was a backup as folks are coming you have 980. kari, the headlights are going south going towards the coliseum, and now it's starting to calm down once again. >> looking good there. as we get a live look outside in san rafael this morning, as you get ready to head out, we are seeing a nice clear start to our morning. temperatures cool in the low 50s. as we go throughout the morning we will see the temperatures climbing. it will be about like it was yesterday with some mid-80s in much of the north bay, novato

the driver's side shattered window from the suv, and the two victims are now in the hospital with no update on their condition. police are not confirming who is currently inside that home, but we do know that nobody is in custody just yet tied to that shooting. a definitive district attorney -- defiant district attorney is defending herself against a campaign to oust her. alameda county d.a., pamela price, says a campaign to launch a recall won't work. >> today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us now. how far along is this effort? seems like she just got to office. >> the recall campaigning is in the early stage of signature gathering, and it happens as she's barely six months into her position. pamela price is getting criticism from a group that
5:05 am
filed the paperwork launching the recall effort. price ran on a platform of criminal justice reform, but opponents say what they are seeing is plea deals and dropped charges, and one of the most notable cases is that case of jasper wu, the little boy killed in the shooting. the d.a.'s office referred us to price's campaign office who has not responded to our request. this is how she has contoured that criticism previously. >> the narrative of my opponents is a failed strategy. i won because people did not trust this office. we're here because this community did not trust this

aggression. >> we're coming off and the ukrainians came in clear with their frustrations, but after high-level talks and new promises, the tone seems to be shifting to unanimity. >> the nations around the table not only share common history but we share common challenges and i would add, presumptuously, common values. >> nato promised a pathway for ukraine to eventually join. but refused ukraine's urgent calls for a concrete timeline while the war with russia is still raging.
5:08 am
>> our commitment to ukraine will not weaken. >> ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy checking his frustrations, and thanking the american people for the aid. >> you spend this money for our lives, and i think we save europe and all the world. >> finland shares a border with russia and thousand shares in an ironclad commitment to defend any allies against any threat. lawmakers here on capitol hill are closely watching these overseas meetings and we are seeing deep divisions particularly within the public party between members who want

to offer more sophisticated weapons to ukraine and those that want to sharply scale back on the spending. back to you, marcus and ginger. >> alice, thank you. new details this morning about the clash between police and skateboarders. the city says the vandalism will pay taxpayers $70,000. police wearing riot gear, no muni workers or passengers were injured. a live look in downtown san josé where today we will start to feel and see the heat up, but the temperatures is not the only thing bringing the heat. cal fire is planning to conduct a controlled burn this morning, and it's supposed to last
5:10 am
through most of the day providing conditions allow for it. agencies everywhere are responding. the states office of emergency services is activating phase 2 of the extreme responses program. >> this is something we expect to see increasingly as our climate gets hotter and we have significant dry spells. >> the state is upping its coordination for services in the event a emergency response is needed. and leading up to the weekend, kari hall has been tracking the heat all week. >> it's starting and we will see hotter temperatures as we go into the weekend as well as a high fire danger, so they are kind of preparing things for now. starting out early in the morning is the best plan, because now we are seeing cooler temperatures, mainly in the

upper 50s and low 60s as we get started. as we go throughout the day the wind will pick up, so at 2:00 to 3:00 this afternoon we will have a breezy northwesterly wind coming in, at 20 to 30 miles per hour and maybe even stronger through the tri-valley. i am not sure they will be able to continue the controlled burn in santa clara valley because it will be windy and temperatures are warming up. for the tri-valley, expect it to reach 90 degrees. we're staying in the 60s in san francisco while the east bay will see upper 70s. the north bay reaching into the upper 80s. we will talk about the weekend coming up in a few minutes. mike has a look at where we can find lower prices. >> yeah, i reached out to tracie, and i wanted to call it a clean sweep for the bay area prices.

all with the same price point of $4.09. same chain, same price in san josé at the -- in livermore, sorry, at the gas mart in livermore. and then san josé closes us out with 4.09, and i am stammering because these prices have not changed in the last few days and that means prices are rising up to meet them. there's a green flow of traffic, and you had the crash and remaining disabled vehicles are clearing from southbound 880, and the sig-alert has cleared from oakland and it's clearing across the bridges as well. the north bay not showing slowdowns just yet, but watching highway 4 for the first time. >> mike, those gas prices looking good. >> i like them under $5. google's a.i. chat box is
