all of a hollywood shuts down. hollywood has been crippled in a sense and reeling from the writers who have walked off the scripted shows meaning a lot of reality tv, you're seeing a lot of reruns already probably, but the actors were spared, now with the actors gone the largest union here in hollywood, a lot of pain coming for the entire industry as a whole. lot of things are at stake. it boilgs down to money. in this case, wages, they want more wages than what the streamers are offering. they're offering quote/unquote historic high wages for all of the actors involved. they want more residual from streamers and they want residuals so that the streamers don't say, people played this movie this many time, they want some accountability and

we're tracking breaking news out of pittsburgh the gunman in deadly synagogue shooting there is eligible for death penalty. the jury reached the decision after less than two hours of deliberations. 11 people were shot and killed at the tree of life synagogue back in 2018. the gunman was found guilty in his federal trial last month, nbc news correspondent rehema ellis is following the trial for us. rehema, this is part of the job given to this jury, right, can you explain what happens next? >> reporter: certainly, this was

with gardens and trees. as you can see in the photos on the screen there. this is part of the governor's extreme heat action plan. bob redell, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. a suspected fire bug arrested this week is expected to make his first court appearance today. on tuesday, authorities arrested the 32-year-old. he is the serial arsonist responsible for as many as 30 fires. he has confessed to more than a dozen of those. police say the biggest one he started was at a housing development under construction near downtown morgan hill. we spoke with a woman who fled with her three kids. >> we heard it going on. i'm relieved that we won't be having that problem anymore. >> he is being held on $1 million bail. his court appearance is set to begin at 1:30 this afternoon. fires have been going on throughout the bay area.

here are a few you need to know about. a mobile home on the peninsula catches fire. acres in the santa cruz mountains burn after an rv tipped over. police are investigating an apartment fire in fair oaks. it started just after midnight in a complex on glendale avenue. two people had to be rescued from the fire. both are now in the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. the fire is out. the flames contained to one unit. police have not yet established a cause. the bald mountain area of the sierra open space reserve is closed because of a brush fire yesterday that was sparked whether an rv tipped over. paramedics took the driver to the hospital. we do not know the extent of the injuries. the fire was contained after it burned 2 1/2 acres. the area is closed today for cleanup. we received this video of a mobile home on fire on the peninsula. this happened around 8:00 last night.

in meantime, he's back in jail, being held on a $1.2 million bond and he's facing serious charges, first degree murder, aggravated assault, we're learning more about what exactly happened inside that exam room, now, remember this is something that really when we talk about a crime it's egregious this one particularly so, the alleged gunman was a pay sent of dr. mauck, had an appointment inside the exam room to be treated. according the affidavit and a witness who spoke, he pulled a gun out and fired three shots at the doctor. she recognized the alleged shooter from previous times he had visited the clinic. certainly a lot that's going into this investigation. when i spoke to police chief in tennessee yesterday, he told me they're still trying to determine the motive. but just as we spent time

talking to people who knew dr. mauck, reading tributes to him we learned a lot about him, well-respected in the community, volunteers his time and somebody who was very dedicated to his family, his wife and his children, so certainly a terrible tragedy all around, kate. >> i'm sure the community must be mourning and are they holding any memorials for him at this point arranged in. >> reporter: there was one yesterday from what we understand. at one of the clins he served. they were closed through the day yesterday, closed in memory of him. he worked at the clinic at one of the clinics there in tennessee area, he worked at a children's hospital nearby, so certainly at lot of people in the community very touched by his work and grieving today, kate. >> blayne alexander, thank you actor kevin spacey took to the stand in london courtroom today, denying the sexual assault charges against him. first time the jury has heard directly from spacey during the

two-week old trial. he pleaded not guilty. nbc news foreign correspondent ali arouzi joins us now. can you take us through on how we got to this moment? >> reporter: this is a case of over a 12-year period when kevin spacey was the artistic director here and four men have accused him of various sexual assaults. 12 counts of sexual assault. yesterday the prosecution summed up its case and today it was his defense team to present their case to defend him and this is the first time that kevin spacey was in the witness stand. the alleged victims painted a very sordid picture of the two-time academy award winner.
