in pennsylvania, we just learned some new information about those children. >> reporter: breaking information in the last hour or so from police, kate, we're learning the identities of the two young children that authorities are urgently is searching for, matilda shields and conrad shields. we know their mother, 32-year-old katie seely tragically perished on a road much like this, flash flooding set in overtaking their car. the mother again tragically dying. now they're urgently searching for those two young ones over a widespread area, they're looking a quarter mile here on the delaware river. on foot exploring reones include wrg i am now, drones, sonar technology, pouring as many resources as day can as we're

>> he looks like he's been through something. >> but alive and well. a nationwide manhunt is over. an inmate who's taped from pennsylvania jail has been captured. a couple spotted burham on their property, all thanks to their barking dog. george solis joins us now with the very latest. you spoke with that couple, what did they say happened? >> reporter: that's right, they're as flabbergasted like everyone else. their dog labrador was hanging out, goes into the creek in their backyard, starts barking, they inspect and they find the escaped inmate michael burham, they call the authorities. he's now here at thor erie county prison. they knew that this suspect could have been armed and

♪♪ voltaren. the joy of movement. ♪♪ good monday, everyone. this is the fast forward. the heat wave this weekend had many bay area firefighters on edge worried the hot temperatures could fuel wildfires. bob is in the hills above dublin. >> an important reminder from firefighters, if you see smoke or flames in the hills near where you live, don't assume someone's already reported that. they want you to call 911 immediately. fortunately, there are no reports of fires in the bay area. this is the scene in sacramento where cal fire fought a fire. that fire believed was started by lightning.

according to a tweet, the firefighter stopped progress and had it 50% contained. the agency will be onsite all day. that sounds like a lot of resources for such a small fire but we're aware of how they can grow into monsters like the deadly fires we saw in the north bay over the past several years. something that santa rosa fire department is very familiar with. yesterday, that agency sent out this video of lightning striking over the north bay. no reports of any wildfires as a result as i mentioned but an important reminder that the threat exists. especially during this heat wave. we are now learning about new power outages in the east bay according to the online pg&e outage map. there are now roughly 3,000 customers without power in pleasant hill. that as of 10:30. you can see on the map there's other smaller instances but the big one is in pleasant hill and as we are aware, there were more outages over the weekend that pg&e has been working to

advocates in oakland are worried about a surge in evictions with covid era moritoriums running out. that means landlords will be allowed to take tenants to court over unpaid rent during the past three plus years. housing advocates fear it may lead to a spike in homelessness. the worst of the heat wave is behind us but there are still some high temperatures lingering. today, our high temperatures will range from 60s near the coast to mid-90s for the interior valley. we're still looking at a big range in temperatures even with the short drive across the bay area and in fremont, expect it to reach 86 degrees while oakland will see a high of 77 and tomorrow, it comes down even more. a nice cooldown as we get a stronger ocean breeze. more coastal fog and we'll see temperatures in san francisco in the mid-60s.

albums are midnight, lover and folklore. there are growing questions today surrounding the disappearance of a young woman in alabama, carlee russell vanished after she pulled over to call 911 reporting seeing a toddler walking along an interstate, but now more than 48 hours later she's come back home, she's safe with her family. nbc news correspondent priscilla thompson has been following this story all weekend. lot of questions and confusion. >> reporter: kate, we know that police have now been able to account for all of carlee russell's movement up until she made that 911 call and vanished off the interstate for more than 48 hours, she returned on saturday night on foot and alone showing up on the doorstep of her family home, but there's still no answers about what happened during that more than 48 hours that she was missing.

since then no reports of a missing child, that's another one of the mysteries in this investigation, i did ask police about that, they say they're looking into that and they have had one opportunity to speak with russell when she was admitted to the hospital when she first returned home but they're hoping to speak with her again in the coming days as this investigation continues. kate. >> priscilla, thank you. new details in case of a suspected serial killer believed to be hind a series of murders on the long island. they spanned more than a decade and made national headlines. authorities now say that dna helped lead to the arrest of rex heuermann. he's pleaded not guilty to the charges. rehema ellis joins us now with the latest. what more are you learning about the police work on this case? >> reporter: we heard from authorities today, saying that they had searched his home and we know that much, but we didn't

lilly. >> it's very similar to leqembi, people are given a month willy infusion of this drug, trying to remove the plaque, after 18 months there was a slowing, people experienced a slowing of the disease after 18 months. so what that meant in terms of like practical time is, about 7.5 additional months of time, overall the slowing was 29%, but in some cases it was higher, about 350% to 36% slowing. >> doctor, with all that said, how is this new drug different from leqembi in. >> yes, they're really not different. they both target amyloid in the brain. this drug removes or targets the plaque in the brain.

nbc bay area responds to a south bay woman who had $100 hinging on a cabinet purchase. >> good morning. cynthia in santa clara decided to return the bathroom cabinets she bought from amazon. she requested the return over the phone and says the rep promised her she would get her money back on her credit card. a refund. instead, amazon issued store credit, which cynthia didn't realize until she made another purchase that ate up some of the, but not all of, that credit. in the end, $99.78 left over
