another major investigation into potential efforts to overturn the 2020 election as officials in michigan are bringing charges against people who tried to ensure trump emerged victorious. drew, good morning does this increase the likelihood of yet another indictment of the former president? >> reporter: well, good morning, frances. it appears that way, at least initially. in a two-page statement posted to truth social on tuesday, former president trump revealed that his lawyers were told by special counsel jack smith on sunday that he is the target in a grand jury investigation into the january 6 attack on the capitol and potential efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election a target in a criminal investigation is someone who prosecutors believe committed a crime and may be requested to come in and testify. if you recall, trump was also sent a target letter back in may as part of another investigation by smith into trump's handling of classified documents which

the fight begins malaria there have been kateeight casesn the u.s. >> reporter: inside the centers for disease creel. >> control, dr. monica leads the team, starting in response to recently-discovered cases in the u.s. one in texas, seven in sarasota county, florida. including a new one. >> we notified all the public that live in that yeimmediate area >> reporter: the cases are locally borne, meaning those infected have not recently traveled overseas and contracted malaria here at home, something the u.s. has not seen in two decades. why are we seeing these cases now? >> it's a good question.

and we don't have a good answer for why didn't we see it in 20 years and it came up now >> reporter: that's part of the work being done here >> this one was found in texas >> reporter: only one kind of mosquito can transmit malaria. here they are looking at things like mosquito behavior and how they respond to insecticide. it's one of the labs that helped fight the zika and west nile outbreaks. it was founded specifically to fight malaria, and they're working with local health departments where the latest cases have been found. >> they process the mosquitos, examine them and process them and send them here for us to do the test for parasites in the mosquito >> reporter: she and most experts agree, during the summer outdoor months, insect repellant is a must. but she says the chance of a national outbreak thankfully, is very low >> because of the history that we have, the outbreaks that we have had have been relatively
