more severe storms we will start with nbc's kathy park she is at new york's laguardia airport. kathy, good morning. >> reporter: hey, craig. good morning to you. yeah we can't seem to catch a break from all this extreme weather. those powerful storms cut a path of destruction hundreds of thousands of customers still without power. meanwhile, here at laguardia, last night, there were hundreds of delays and cancellations. this morning, we're still feeling the impacts. >> reporter: overnight, an outbreak of violent storms on the east coast unleashing destructive winds, torrential downpours and damaging hail. >> aaron >> reporter: in westminster, maryland, dozens of people, including children, were stuck in their cars after nearly 30 power poles came crashing down everyone was safely rescued. >> i have never seen anything like this before in my entire life. >> reporter: the stormy conditions continuing up and down the east coast, bringing

dangerous winds and reports of tornadoes. and roads flooding as drivers struggled to get home. in washington, d.c. suburbs wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour at the height of rush hour. slamming trees into homes and on to power lines ahead of the bad weather, federal workers in the nation's capitol urged to leave work early monday >> this is the most ominous shot of the day. >> reporter: the same system hammering parts of east tennessee and south carolina >> going to be a tree on the garage child entrapped in the garage. >> reporter: officials say a falling tree killed a 15-year-old. while in alabama, lightening struck and killed a 28-year-old man. as the wild weather closed in, thousands of flight delays on the east coast meant some travelers had to find another way home. >> at this point, we are going to try to rent a car and just drive. >> reporter: now some of the busiest airports are still playing catchup this morning, but nothing like we saw last night.

morning, the judge overseeing the washington case on electio charges is setting new and notably short deadlines to resolve this dispute about the protective order she wants both sides to agree to a hearing time by the end of this week. craig? >> kelly o'donnell for us there in washington. kelly, thank you now to growing tensions between the u.s., russia and china after ships from those two nations carried out a joint military exercise off the coast of alaska. it comes as an alleged informant for russia has been arrested in connection with what officials say was a foiled plot to assassinate ukraine's president. nbc's chief foreign correspondent richle engel has all the details. richard, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. ukrainian intelligence says this suspect, an alleged informant for russia, worked in a shop selling military supplies to ukrainian soldiers and that she was gathering information about president zelenskyy's movements and passing along targeting information about ukraine's defenses to moscow

welcome to "today's table" series. joining us is the executive chef and owner of pig beach barbecue locations. in two weeks louisville. we were all recently at your place here in historic queens, me and the crew, and had such a today, we will take a look at that pig beach vibes for people watching to make a delicious summer steak sandwich. where are we starting with that? >> just a collection of usually herbs and spices and garlic and onions. in our bowl, we have chopped parsely.

>> i immediately think the steak will be skirt or flank, something in that world. >> yes you can put it on anything but it works really well with the flavors of skirt or steak. thin, chary, fatty meat. >> yep >> in our bowl, we have parsely, mint we add some shallots, some garlic, a little bit of chili flake. >> i added cilantro to mine. >> you can put that. basil, anything you want that's the beauty of this. however spicy or hot you want it some dried oregano ground black pepper. salt all the guys lemon zest and then we add lemon juice, olive oil and red wine vinegar if you don't mind, give that a mix for me the great thing about this keep it in your fridge don't be worried if the color starts to change, that's all right you don't need to blend this. >> i always blend it you can make a pure out of it. right there is absolutely perfect. >> what is the amount of time? >> ideally for skirt steak or

something thin is about an hour is all we need we will reserve half of that for the other half right into our zip lock bag and we will refrigerate that overnight all those flavors get into that steak. just let it marinade just like that next up, we will make a dijonaisse here. in our bowl we have mayonnaise more garlic. sugar. sugar will help round out that mayonnaise ground black pepper. salt lemon, zest and lemon juice. again this is another condiment. put this in your fridge. this will keep far long time >> if you didn't want to deal with this part, what do you use? >> this really helps round out all our incredible flavors. in that sandwich so now we have our skirt steak over here. and what we're going to do, get our grill hot, hot cooking on one side and cooler heat on the other. it's called zone grilling. very important step in grilling. >> high on one side and low or

off on the other. >> yes why i love that, it gives you the ability to finish cooking that steak without burning or overcharring it. we want to get a good char and then put it to the cooler side, let it cool and let the temperature slowly rise up so next, we'll come over and let our steak rest on our cutting board. we want to slice our skirt steak against the grain. now, you can see on this particular cut of meat, the lines go up like this. when you slice it, you want to slice against the grain going the other way so the meat doesn't look like the lines going in here. then we'll have this >> so against the grain doesn't literally mean perpendicular to the grain. >> exactly if you think about it, the meat strands kind of go this way, like you are pulling across this way. >> how good is that, guys? >> amazing. >> by the way, matt, jacob recently -- >> i'm back,>> you gotgo to the sideby >> oh,god! that's amazing. >> 45 nds.
