the latest. what else do we know about king's status in north korea today and for the u.s. side of things, the efforts to get back look like? >> reporter: ellison, we don't know a whole lot of what's going on with his status in north korea. this was the missing piece. four weeks after he dashed across the border to north korea. because of their extreme isolation, pretty hard for pentagon or us journalists any statement contributed to king. even if he stands up and speaks directly straight on the camera like i'm doing now, no way we won't know those comments are coming under durress or torture. this gives us a tiny glimpse of

new report that could spell legal trouble for actor alec baldwin a second analysis alleges that baldwin did pull the trigger, he's denied doing that. we want to bring in nbc news correspondent antonia hilton. the charges were dropped against baldwin earlier this year. who could file new charges against alec baldwin? >> reporter: that's up to special prosecutor in this case and they've told nbc news that the door is open here. look, just as you spelled out here, just a few months ago, charges against him were dismissed because the prosecutor at the time believed perhaps the gun used on the scene that day that led to fatal shooting that it might have been modified it

the 2009 hit film the blind side. family accused by former nfl player michael oher is now fighting back with some shocking allegations of their own. you've been following this for us all day, remind us and tell us the latest on this. you were waiting for a press conference from the tuohy family. what started this and what is the family saying right now? >> reporter: ellison, a press conference with attorneys representing the tuohy family taking place right now. the attorneys representing the family justifying their actions. the beginning here, this all started because of a legal petition filed on behalf of michael oher indicating that he signed paperwork to get into a conservatorship when he lived with the tuohys and he was never adopted. now the tuohys what they're

this is "the fast forward." i'm chris chmura live in the nbc bay area newsroom. we are following breaking news. someone shot a san jose police officer. the officer was responding to a family disturbance call. first the shooting, then a standoff. scott budman is live at the scene. what's happening now? >> reporter: good afternoon. this has been something of a situation where a lot of streets have been closed down. police have been actively searching for that shooter. we are going on close to four hours now. we are here at page and douglas. you are looking down the way towards san carlos.

all of the streets have been shut down, businesses have been shut down, homes have been shut down. a lot of people unable to get to their place of business or even to their house because this is an active situation. five minutes ago we heard a loud boom. haven't seen that much activity since. again, this is a very, very wide perimeter. you can see it from our chopper. this is the situation, for the last 3 1/2 hours, we are told as you mentioned, chris, that there was an officer who was responding to a situation at a residence. that officer was shot and taken to the hospital. we do not know their condition. meanwhile, there has been a search for the shooter to try to get that person into custody. here is the latest that we heard from the san jose police department. >> we believe the suspect is contained. however the suspect is not in custody. avoid the area, including helicopters, vehicle traffic and

police department, that's because every single officer on their force resigned. it was announced monday during a city council monday in a town of about 1300 people, the officers say they're leaving because of low pay and say they're paid far less to similarly police departments in their area. maura, the officers will still be patrolling until august 23rd, but this mass resignation in general it was pretty abrupt, how on earth did all of this happen? >> well, look, ellison, this is unfortunately a story that we're seeing a lot of across the country, retention and retirement of police officers. in a smaller community the police force in total was 7 people, they're very much intrinsically part of the community working in the way a lot of departments were originally designed to work but this was something that the

police chief raised about low pay and we saw this exodus from the department just since then, a matter of weeks, and the mayor is speaking to reporters at the city council meeting this week saying she was very surprised and blindsided. >> we knew we were on the low side. and so we were trying very, very hard to bring those numbers up. we are all devastated by this. we're trying to muddle through this and do the best we can. provide service for our community. >> reporter: the police chief said that officers in his department make about $22 an hour in goodhue in comparison to other local smaller communities that could make up to $30 an hour. to us living in bigger cities we recognize that's a very low hourly rate for someone who's stepping up and protecting their community and that's why they're not seeing new officers. >> what happens after august 23rd?

>> so the first thing is to create space for yourself, ask yourself, what brings you joy, what are you excited about? and create a space for that. and also make sure to socialize, socialize with your partner, make sure to deliberately date your husband or, you know, fianceor the significant other. make room for your friends. there are people who love you and who need you. >> we all want balance in every aspect of life. how do we get it here? >> realizing the different aspects of ourselves and acknowledging how important it is to be intellectual, to allows ourselves to dream, to socialize, to be that parent you want to be. you are sue your dreams, to figure out a way to do everything so we have a sense of feel good and mental well-being

kari hall expects a reprieve. >> look what we are expecting the rest of the week into the weekend. we are going to see temperatures coming down. we are going from upper 90s with high humidity and that slight chance of thunderstorms to some upper 80s for the weekend with a little bit less humidity. we are going to see a surge in monsoon moisture as we head toward the end of the weekend into early next week as our temperatures heat up. we could see showers and thunderstorms returning to the bay area. we will continue to monitor that while san francisco gets more sunshine, highs in the mid 70s and 60s for the weekend.

rain. bob redell connects the dots. >> reporter: i asked brent, the wine maker here, what does this year's harvest look like now that we are finally out of the drought? he says the 2023 vintage is looking promising for a number of reasons. our winter storms saturated the soil. the vines grew sooner as a result. healthier plants. he didn't have to water until a good two to three months later than usual, with 20% to 30% less water overall. there's a little less fruit on the vines, he says, this year because of the mild spring and a couple of rainy periods in the middle of the broom. the up side, those looser clusters of grapes are less prone to mold and mildew. brent anticipates this year's harvest to start in two to three weeks from now, which
