>> reporter: he said in a court filing that he plans to seek a grand jury indictment of the president's son by the end of this month at the start of the summer, the younger biden looked like he was about to put his long-time legal woes behind him. biden was set to enter a plea deal on tax misdemeanor charges. >> that would have resulted in the dropping of a separate felony firearms case and likely spared biden from any jail time. but the deal dramatically fell apart back in july when the judge raised concerns over provisions in the agreement and refused to sign off on it. weiss, a trump-appointed u.s. attorney, had been in charge the hunter biden case for a number of years many a after the plea deal collapsed, weiss was appointed special counsel in august. weiss had come under fire from republicans accusing him of negotiating a sweetheart deal for biden. the exact charges are not yet known, but the filing was made as part of biden's firearms case
