other top stories, including the latest developments in the search for escaped prisoner danelo cavalcante. as the search for the escaped killer moves to the national level, pennsylvania police are still warning residents to stay alert and secure their properties as he continues to be spotted across the state authorities say cavalcante is changing his appearance while making visits to old colleagues looking for help nbc's george solis has more on the search >> reporter: the pennsylvania manhunt intensifying for escaped killer danelo cavalcante the desperate search now nationwide after he slipped past authorities once again, ditching this white van he stole. how do you explain that? >> no from time to timer is 100% secure, ever i applaud the men and women who were out there standing in some very difficult conditions and trying to secure that perimeter. i'm not going to make an excuse to you i wish it had not happened. >> reporter: police worried about what cavalcante, convicted this summer for the brutal

murder of his ex-girlfriend, may do next. >> we're obviously very concerned that cavalcante has or will attempt to steal another vehicle to facilitate his escape >> reporter: a major clue. authorities releasing these new door bell cameras of cavalcante taken at the home of where he may have been looking for help here is what he looked like before now you can see he drastically changed his appearance, clean-shaven, wearing a hood e and green sneakers this map showing his movement since his escape at the chester county prison outside philadelphia 11 days okay to these sightings at the botanical gardens all the way to his last known location. >> this is a minor setback we'll get him. it's a matter of time. >> reporter: over the course of the manhunt, some 400 officers from local, state and federal agencies scoured an ever changing perimeter around the garden's property. >> there is a lot of issues associated with that property. you couple that with weather,

aviation being down for a night. there are a number of reasons. again, no excuses. >> reporter: the search for convicted killer danelo cavalcante expanding even further. the fugitive now donning a new look as this manhunt enters a new week. >> george, thank you president biden is wrapping up his trip to southeast asia with an visual visit to vietnam. mr. biden's trip is being closely watched for my messages to china the president came directly from a g20 meeting in new delhi an assembly of world leaders that china's president xi jinping pointedly did not attend for the latest let's go live to washington, d.c. and brie jackson. brie, good morning what did president biden hope to achieve with this asia trip? >> good morning, frances well, the president departs vietnam with some historic deals. the u.s. was able to secure deals with the economist country on semiconductors and rare minerals while vietnam will upgrade america's diplomatic status in the capital hanoi.

this is all, of course, part of a larger campaign to make inroads in asia to counter china. in a speech in hanoi, mr. biden explained his position take a listen. >> we're not looking to decouple from china what i'm not going to do is i'm not going to sell china material that would enhance their capacity to make more nuclear weapons, to engage in defense activities that are contrary to what is viewed as most people think was a positive development in the region. but we're not trying to hurt china. >>. >> reporter: and whether or not china believes that message is another thing entirely frances? >> and brie, biden was just at the g20 meeting in india how productive were those meetings >> well, chinese president xi skipped the meeting in what was widely seen as a snub to indian prime minister modi, the u.s.

and president biden seized on that rift to steer a lot of the agenda at that meeting while mr. biden insists that the u.s. is not hostile against china, his administration is still making deals and establishing trade infrastructure with other asian powers like vietnam. one loss for the u.s. at the g20 summit is the joint declaration issued on saturday in the section that deals with ukraine, the group failed to condemn russia outright for the war in ukraine instead, making vague references to international law meanwhile, president biden this morning heads to alaska, where he is set to deliver remarks marking the 22nd anniversary of the september 11th terrorist attacks. >> brie, thank you the death toll from friday's earthquake in morocco just keeps rising according to the latest tally, more than 2,100 are dead, and that number is still expected to increase the u.n. says about 300,000 people are affected by the

we're looking at rough surf, life-threatening riptides along the northeast. the leeward islands, his ypanio, bermuda, rough surf. a category 3 storm that's a major hurricane it's also growing in size. it weakened a bit yesterday. starting to strengthen once again late sunday. and then it's going to strengthen more today. winds at 120 miles per hour. it's moving northwest at 8 miles per hour so it continues to slow. we're going to see it move painfully slow this is the story all week long. category 3 storm, strengthening to a category 4 later today. weakening to a category 2 on thursday a category 2 by 8:00 on wednesday. by thursday, we're looking at a category 2 and then category 1 west of bermuda. so we're going to track this as we go throughout time here we're looking at that rough surf and rip currents from nantucket to ocean city, wilmington, down

night sky until dawn over two decades after the attacks, the new york police department is making sure that the memory of those who rushed without hesitation to ground zero are not forgotten ahead of this solemn remembrance, nbc's marc santia spoke to the heroic members of the nypd's heroic service unit as they reflect on what they experienced on that terrible day for new york and america >> it definitely seems like yesterday, though. >> reporter: step going the past, each footstep etched into memory, it has been 22 years but in many ways, time has stood still. >> when we were on the pile that first night, you know, we had fire under our feet. and you could hear the f-16s flying overhead. so it was a little surreal to be in new york city and hear fighter jets flying above >> reporter: detectives dealing with some of the biggest jobs this city has ever seen. they were assigned to truck 7

on 9/11. >> we're not used to responding to planes slamming into buildings with newspaper rouse people trapped so i'm not going to lie. it was scary we didn't think we would probably come home. >> reporter: in fact, several members of esu never came home that day >> we think about it daily, because we're reminded of it daily. >> reporter: these levels push forward, compelled by a confidence, knowing none of their friends died in vain. >> 25,000 people were safe from that building that day and they got to see their kids grow up. they got to have grandchildren, whatever they did in life, they got to do that because of the efforts of everyone put forward here that night. and it was heroic with the cops, firemen, port authority, ems and the regular civilians who worked in the building. they helped. >> reporter: they also walk with a purpose, fueled by a promise, never forget >> we made a promise to never forget, and we can't outside of doing police work, that's our most important job is to take care of the families, of the ones we lost

>> it's just the way it is that's what we're supposed to do. >> they may have lost their loved one, but now they're part of our family. >> reporter: and over the course of these last 22 years, never forget is more than just a phrase >> we're speaking with them, see how the kids are doing, seeing how they're doing. what do they got going on. we've attended lacrosse games, other family functions. >> whatever they need. they'll call us up and say something is going on. and some guys are handy and stuff. and they'll go over to the house and take care of something they need and that's always -- it's always been the way. >> reporter: while these detectives are eternally grateful for the support from their families over the last two decades. >> we couldn't have done it without them we go home and have a hot meal, and just carry on some sense of normalcy it was a big thing for us. >> reporter: they are also thankful for the adopted family they've come to know in these years after 9/11 >> they adopted us also which was a big thing for us like they let us know it's okay.
