lafayette and orinda. the build is toward the bay bridge and across the bay on the richmond bridge and toward san francisco. looking ahead, we have dreamforce still in town, all these folks we just talked about, but combined with dreamforce, we have a midday game for the giants and the concert tonight for dreamforce at chase center. there will be a lot of activity. back to you. >> thanks, mike. we are following breaking news out of pennsylvania where a violent escaped inmate on the run for nearly two weeks is finally back in custody. a news conference is set to get under way. we'll bring you the new details next. we are just 17 days away from a government shutdown that a number of people in congress guarantee will happen. plus, forget about snakes on a plane. how about snakes at the airport? we're going to tell you where one stopped by and had some travelers stopped in their tracks. keep it right here.

12:48 am
going to refuse to authorize any more government spending, even if a continuing resolution or cr, meaning the government would shut down at the end of the month. here is republican congressman ralph norman from south carolina. >> we got rolled on the debt ceiling. we're not going to get rolled again now. we're going to use our votes to defund as many things as we can. cr i'm not voting for, as many aren't, because it funds all the bad things we say we are against. >> the white house warns one of the very first programs to be affected will be wic, food aid to women, infants and children. the white house says wic needs emergency funding, but we're talking about no funding for anything. some of the same lawmakers calling for a government shutdown are also calling for speaker of the house kevin mccarthy to resign. they say he's not conservative enough. yesterday, just hours before a scheduled speech to call for his ouster, mccarthy announced he was ordering an impeachment

inquiry into president joe biden. it's been a while since we talked about impeachment. to clarify, nobody has been impeached. the first step is an inquiry. that's what mccarthy says he's authorizing. but usually there's a vote to authorize an inquiry. in fact, back when speaker pelosi tried to do an impeachment inquiry without a vote, it was mccarthy who called her out and said, hold on, you can't do that, we need to have a vote to launch an inquiry. here is that document from back during the very early days of the first trump impeachment. this time around it's not clear mccarthy has the votes in his own party to authorize the inquiry, because he hasn't specified specifically what biden should be impeached for. the inquiry, he says, is going to find that. republican congressman ken buck told nbc, quote, there's not a strong connection at this point between the evidence on hunter biden and any evidence connecting the president, so i am more focused on the issues
12:50 am
that i think americans care about. republican don bacon speaking to "the hill" newspaper. as of now, i do not support an inquiry. i think it should be based on evidence of a crime that points directly to president biden. impeachment needs to be about the dad, not the son. now, it is pretty clear by now, hunter biden got his wealth off proximity to his father. nobody is really questioning that. the companies hired him, apparently, with the hopes of having access to joe biden. but nobody has offered proof there was any kind of meaningful access. the president and first lady will convene their cancer cabinet today at the white house and announce a quarter billion in new funding to detect and treat cancer. the program wants to cut cancer deaths in half in the next 25 years. in an unusual day in the senate, top leaders from commercial ai, google, openai, nvidia and half a dozen more, will have a school, of sort, for senators. we'll talk more about it in our streaming newscast.
