let's start with jesse kirsch. >> good morning. the uaw says this is unprecedented. workers walking out on ford, general motors and stellantis. meanwhile, all three auto makers have made offers but i spoke with the uaw president overnight, and he tells me he thinks the two sides are not really close from missouri to ohio and into the detroit suburbs, this morning the united auto workers taking historic action. it comes with serious consequences overnight, almost 13,000 workers told to walk off the job in what the union calls its first ever strike against all of the big three auto makers at the same time >> we help build america >> reporter: in front of a ford assembly plant outside detroit,

shawn fain joining the picket et line overnight for now the uaw targeting three assembly plants, one each from general motors, ford and stellantis you have competitors paying a lot less more labor than these companies. how can you expect to get everything you are asking for? >> shame on those competitors number one all this is the companies ar trying to drive a race to the bottom, and we're better than that america is better than that. >> reporter: the head of ford say they want a deal. >> what they have offered to us is untenable we can't sustain our company we will go bankrupt in a matter of years that's why we're pleading with the uaw. this could mean the downstream plants and the employees in there may not receive strike funds or even unemployment it's chaos. >> reporter: overnight general motors writing we are disappointed by the uaw actions, despite the unprecedented

leading up to the deadline, but now that there is a strike, can discussions continue, and for what it is worth, the chasm is wide. the big part of the story is wide. the question is can those discussions continue again for what it's worth, the chasm is the still wide. the union is asking for 46% compounded in wages. the best offer uaw disclosed was 20%. right there it shows you just how far apart they are. >> on the one hand, the workers are saying the companies are extremely profitable, so we want to partake on that on the other hand, the company says these workers are getting paid much more we have to stay competitive and informs in the future. >> and ford said last night when it looked like the deal was not going to be on the table that this is going to hurt their competitiveness. when you look at other u.s. manufacturers from foreign brands think of toyota. they're building in the united

states with nonunion labor that is cheaper than what ford has to employ a lot of us have been here for ten years in some cases, having to fight for that much time to make it up to a $31, $32 wage rate they say it is only fair if we get some of those profits. >> brian, thank you so much. we appreciate it. another big story this morning centers around hunter biden indicted on federal gun charges that carry possible prison time. this is after the collapse of a plea deal with prosecutors that would have kept him out of prison we have the latest on how it's affecting the president's re-election campaign let's start with laura jarrett. >> good morning to you the special counsel in delaware is sticking to his pledge to indict hunter biden. but there are plenty of questions about whether there are more charges left to come here this morning less than two deals after his plea deal collapsed, the president's son now fighting criminal charges in the midst of his father's election bid, indicting hunter biden on three

federal counts, accused of lying when he bought a gun in 2013 those allegations the same ones he stood ready to admit over the summer, which would have allowed him to avoid prison time. >> this office never bought an office like this against anybody. >> but the deal unravelled after a judge questioned it and biden's legal team now calls the charges as a result of partisan interference, accusing special counsel david weiss of bending to political pressure. >> if the republicans yell loud enough, at some point it cracks through and people believe it. >> while some on the hill say they hope this is just the beginning and remain focused on their own investigations related to hunter biden's foreign business charges. >> you have to follow the money. does it lead back to the white house? does it lead back to joe biden

>> reporter: no official word from the white house, but the president has defended his son in the past saying in an interview last year he believed people would understand his son's struggles with addictions. >> this thing with a gun, i didn't know anything about it,s application to purchase a gun, an but turns out when he made an application to purchase a gun, what happened was he stayed -- i guess you -- i don't guess you get asked the question are you on drugs, do you use drugs, and he said no. >> reporter: staying mum about the charges when pressed by nbc news but a spokes person for the special counsel's office says the investigation continues. >> all right, laura. and we've got kristin welker here, our new moderator of "meet the press. but, laura, the original plea deal had tax charges in it as well it broke down over the prosecutor wanting to have the o option to file even further charges, so are there more charges than these gun charges we saw >> certainly the tax issues are still a live wire out there. and the special counsel signalled if he was going to

file those charges, he has to do it in a place where the income was earned we might see that in the district of columbia or california they're still racing against a ticking clock here because they have to charge within a certain amount of time and that's supposed to expire next month. >> what do the republicans think of these charges >> they are bouncing on exactly what you are saying, the fact this relates to gun charges. they're saying where is the link to president biden of course they launched an inquiry to determine if there is any link so far no evidence of that but that's really what they're seizing on politically, this is a challenge for the president, not the headline the white house wants to see because they thought this was going to go away over the summer, and it does wind up being potentially a boon for president trump.

that area of hurricane watches has shrunk a little bit. by saturday morning, early, 3:00 a.m., 85 miles an hour increasing rain and wind along the new england coastline. then as we move tomorrow into sunday morning, the greatest impacts will be mostly down east maine on into canada by saturday it is a remnant low. we look at these wind gusts. not quite as strong as we were thinking yesterday but still wind gusts of 46 portland 50. almost 60 in baja. montauk 40 miles an hour winds storm surges lower than we thought. but large breaking wave, rip currents, flooding of low lying areas and heavy rain in down east maine some areas could see five inches or more. but what we are watching basically, rip currents and

4:00 this morning and they're giving in details about the victim or victims they are asking people to stay away from the area. later this morning, governor newsom will announce $267 million in new money to fight organized retail crime. police, sheriffs and district attorneys offices throughout the state will receive that money for officers and investigative units but oakland will not be receiving a dime. that's because the city missed a deadline to submit its application. the city administrator's office released a statement say oakland's economic and work force development department never followed through with the investigation. the city is now reviewing what went wrong. time to get a look at that forecast. kerry hall has been tracking that for us. kerry? >> we're going to start with clouds around the bay area, and we're headed for sunshine for today. some of our inland areas are still going to have warm temperatures reaching into the upper 80s, and then expect a nice cooldown for the rest of

exposed private information for an unconfirmed amount of guests. losing big this morning caesars confirming it's fallen victim to a massive cyber attack, with hackers breaching their cyber walls. including social security and driver's license numbers for customers who signed up for its loyalty program. sources familiar with the matter tell cnbc the criminal cyber group demanded a $30 million ransom before the casino paid half of it why is that data so important? >> because that data can be used by people that like to commit identity theft, to open new credit cards, to get driver's license, to get social security cards, to open a mortgage. to take out loans. >> reporter: confirming the breach to the sec, caesars entertainment writing in part, we have taken steps to ensure

that the stolen data is deleted by the unauthorized actor. although, we cannot guarantee this result. caesars is one of at least two major hotels attacked by hackers. just down the vegas strip at the mgm, slat machines went down this week and guests waited hours to check into rooms. >> throughout the day, it got worse and worse and worse. >> this has to be costing mgm millions of dollars an hour. >> reporter: with mgm saying they are working diligently to resolve our cyber security issue, the breach affecting one famous duo amy poehler and maya rudolph making the best of it, but as customers are reeling, the fbi is investigating whether customer data from mgm has also been compromised. >> we don't encourage people to pay ransoms because ransom ware groups are not trustworthy but because data is so sensitive
