tonight neighbors in the mission district say they are working in reverse, the new demands they have for the city. >> joining us. they want the city to step in. neighbors and san francisco's mission say barriers installed earlier this year to deter workers have actually pushed people to their street. >> does neighbors say they feel unsafe walking around their neighborhood at night and they are asking for more support from the city. allison reports from san francisco.

of cars on the street at night, and considering installing bollards like the one on capp street. we reach out to polys in the office of supervisor hillary running for comment and have not received a response. a community and morning, a memorial was held for the los angeles sheriff's deputy killed in an ambush attack. the $250,000 reward being offered for information leading to the gun man's arrest. last night, 30-year-old ryan klink and brooke was found shot in his patrol car. paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he died. investigators say the deputy left the palmdale station when he was attacked. is a surveillance video shows a car pulling up alongside the patrol car before speeding a game. investigators releasing photos of the car describing it as a 2006 2012 dark gray toyota corolla. the sheriff calling the con man

a coward. >> the sheriff is just a red light about to go out and serve our community, that is absolutely 100 percent unacceptable. it should be unacceptable to everybody who lives in this community and communities across the country. >> he was a third generation deputy and was just engaged. he spent the last year and have as a field training officer. they killed two pilots in reno, it happened this afternoon during an air race. the pilots have been identified. the fda says only the pilots were on board the planes when the crash happened, no one on the ground was hurt. this is not the first deadly crash of the races. the most notable crash happened in 2011. spectators died after a heavily

the niners set the bar high last week with their dominating win against the steelers. it took a little more to get this win today. anthony forrest will join us with highlights from today's game coming up in the newscast. glide memorial church hosted a big birthday television for the retiring reverend cecil williams. he turned 94 this year. the church community as it is celebrating his birthday, but also his legacy. after 60 years as the spiritual leader, williams is stepping away from the church to spend his last years focusing on family and health. several leaders spoke today at the event including marilyn brito was credited williams with paving the way way for her to run for office. she also pointed out his commitment to inclusion in the very beginning. >> and he chose to be courageous and welcoming and diverse congregation, and integrated interracial congregation filled with people of all races and sexual

orientation. reverend cecil williams said you are welcome. >> williams accepted the position of pastor at glide back in 1963. agreed the congregation to 10,000 people and became a well- known activist on issues from -rights to homelessness and the aids epidemic. san francisco is known for its colorful and quirky characters throughout history. but today, the city celebrated one of them. the most iconic figure. city leaders formally dedicated the corner from commercial street emperor norton plays. joshua abrams ortman was a jewish man who register for cisco in 1849. he made himself into a folk hero, of sorts, when he marched into a newspaper office and delivered a proclamation declaring himself norton the first emperor of the united states and protector of mexico. >> that is a great title. >> a very good title. he became the love champion of

we are working to learn more about a crash involving a minibus in several cisco. a video posted on the citizen app shows a car smashed into the side of the bus. it happened around noon at garfield street and had street in the ingleside district. it is unclear if anyone was hurt. the sf mta said it caused temporary delays, but everything is back on schedule tonight. follow continues after a seattle police officer was caught on about a camera video laughing about the death of a pedestrian. the department is investigating that's. tonight people in fremont gathered to mourn the 23-year- old grad student killed and speak out about the officers comments about her death. marion father reports. spike the came together in fremont to remember tanabe cotulla. and january the 23-year-old was struck and killed by an officer responding to a call in seattle. >> but she is dead. >> this video captured by seattle police body worn camera captures what sounds like a

the state department of alcoholic beverage control cape livermore pd $50,000. the money will be used to help sales to minors and intoxicated people. the grant is one of 50 order to police department across the state. construction will begin the capitola war. the project will repair the damage caused by the storm to hit the worst earlier this year. you may remember those storms. you can see the giant hole right there cutting the pie off from businesses along the beach and along with repairs, the city plans to install new decking and railing to help warf more resilient the work is expected to start tomorrow and will continue through next year. outside we go right now. a live look at the city from our emeryville camera this sunday night and that is a gorgeous shot. we have used the shot before. i never get tired of it. >> i don't either. >> the cars are moving and the lights are up. >> it is beautiful when you're

not stuck in traffic. >> i don't think anyone is at the moment.>> it is pretty tame but when you have the fog over san francisco and oakland, a preview of tomorrow morning commute which as you have noticed over the last couple of days, we have had drizzle for the morning hours at a pretty cool afternoon by september standards. no 80s in the forecast. again for tomorrow, right now, san jose with most and clear skies. 66 degrees. also in the 60s into walnut creek. the wind direction. we will see below clouds moving into contra costa county and solano county by the morning. oakland with a blanket of low clouds over downtown at 64 degrees and san francisco with misty's guys returned. 63 degrees and a blanket of low clouds all the way inland near the ultimate past and even south of sacrament for the morning and like we had today, by late morning to the afternoon, we see clearing skies and probably less high clouds versus what we had today. a bit more sunshine inland and

fog makes a run at the coast as we head towards tomorrow evening. the temperature trend continues through the 50s and low 60s for the morning circuit light jacket weather for the morning. into the mid-70s by lunchtime. the inland east bay valleys and the highs in the upper 70s and near 80 degrees in morgan hill. the mid-seventies again in san jose. upper 60s and cisco. 80s north fairfield. have to go pretty far inland to get closer to 80 degrees and the trend will hold up probably into tuesday and wednesday. one item to watch north of the sierra. the ongoing chance of seeing isolated thunderstorms. temperature rise not much change between monday, tomorrow and tuesday. by wednesday we might centimeters move inland and east bay and warm up a little bit. by thursday, temperatures come down. the winds will pick up out of the north with highs mostly in the mid-seventies. thursday is also important because it is a short turnaround for the san francisco 49ers taking on the giants. finally back at home, levi stadium 72 degrees around gametime. it could be breezy for the

thursday evening forecast and the wind we are seeing here is a part of shower chances out towards the sierra by thursday and friday. cold-weather system dropping down along the east side of the sierra. it could bring showers there and towards next weekend, the high-pressure building back a little more towards california entering into the first weekend of fall. we see temptress coming up a little bit by friday and saturday. the best chance of saturdays around for the scotia be next weekend and the best chance of the 80s and the valleys are rolling into the first weekend of fall. things are kind of reversed. we cooled down for the final weekend of summer, warming up it to the next weekend. >> we are holding on to the 80s. greek food, great stuff and lots of it right here in the bay area and we will take you there next.

that was one of the performers at the 21st annual art ansell festival setting several blocks in downtown oakland. she was good. there were lines of vendors. you can see the reselling all kinds of goods. there artist doing five paintings. a rollerskating area. a ton of performances. this year the festival teamed up with africa. a group representing the talents of underrepresented people in there were people who showed up in their best costumes as well. i was so impressed. some traveling from la. this am actually troubled family to be here. >> that is great video. who took it? san francisco's three-day greek food festival wrapped up tonight. the 72nd annual festival attracts thousands each year and people are able to get a taste of greece was foods like stuffed peppers, euros and about. a chance to show off culture with traditional dance performances and new and classical greek music. this year the festival was held

thank you for joining us on the special edition of nbc bay area news. if you are just joining us we are on late tonight because of sunday night football. we have highlights of that game coming up. tonight we investigate a former employee threatening to sue the city of oakland. it is the second time and now over allegations of harassment and misconduct within the department of violence prevention. >> the city settled the first complaint but a second is pending. investigative reporter hilda gutierrez spoke with both employees about what they call a toxic culture within the city department. >> reporter: among other allegations, both women claimed they were sexually harassed by their boss. they were reported the harassment to older people and within days of the complaints they were terminated. >> when i was terminated, in

retaliation for me advocating for myself, for equal pay, and to address the toxic abuse that i was experiencing at the head of my boss.>> for 18 months, the doctor of deputy chief of oakland department of violence to>> working for individuals of the highest risk. >> the boss was hired to head the dvd in 2020 after fighting violence in la and to america. >> unfortunately he was very disrespectful to me and i think that pattern of humiliating bullying and harassment also very petty and retaliatory towards individual that challenge his authority. >> reporter: dr. crane quite a formal complete with the city last year claiming sexual harassment, gender discrimination, unequal pay and retaliation. city of oakland quickly settled her claim for more than

think it is time for you to get out./you think he was trying to kiss you on the lips? >> yes. he came this close. i'm sitting there driving. he is here and he doesn't drive. >> because of his history, reese walters says she didn't hesitate to report the behavior to city officials and then fired filed federal equal employment and whistleblower complaint.>> whoever would listen, i was speaking out. >> representative sent is a statement responding to the allegations, saying in part, ms. walters allegations are absurd and entirely without merit and he vehemently denies him. ms. walter was following the same playbook as mr. wright. the oakland city council approved the payout before completing any investigation into the matter. ultimately, the city employment investigations and civil rights compliance department fully investigated miscreants allegation and found them to be entirely unsubstantial. they also provided this letter the city of oakland had informing about the results of

the investigation. in february, almost a year after dr. crane's original complaint, resigned and without admitting guilt work after he resigned, and does 13 date day before walters is her provisional period was that to end, she says she was fired fighting her role as a temporary report appointment. >> this is retaliation. it is classic retaliation. >> reporter: there her attorney reese walters has sent a 500 thousand dollars demand letter to the city of oakland alleging sexual harassment, race discrimination, retaliation and wage violation.>> it is the same story but what he does with ms. walters is that the city knew that all of that had occurred. how can they let it continue? >> reporter: dr. crane now works as a sexual assault evidence coordinator for the

attorney general's office. >> doing this interview it does not hurt me in any way. in fact, compromises me and i was advised not to do it, but i said yes because something needs to happen this needs to stop. >> reporter: reese walters is still waiting for a response to her allegation. >> the community needs to stand up and demand action with this. and they need to demand it from elected officials again, that i have gone to all of them. all of them.>> the department of violence prevention was created in 2070 with 14 employees and a $9.5 million budget. today it has 48 employees at a $22.3 million budget. no one from that department, the city of oakland the city administrator's office agreed to comment or sit down with the investigative unit to discuss the allegations of the record. the city attorney's office said they had no comment, but did confirm the city is conducting an investigation into candace

background first rachal speaker kevin mccarthy announced last tuesday he was directing three house committees to launch impeachment inquiry even though he previously indicated he would not open an inquiry without first hold holding a floor vote. he has since characterizing impeachment a query is a logical next step following investigations to the president and his son, hunter biden. the president was asked about the inquiry while returning to the white house from delaware and he answered with a smile and told reporters, lots of luck. instructors a new dress code coming to capitol hill. senate majority leader chuck schumer has quietly changed the senate the formal dress code. starting tomorrow, senators can wear whatever they want on the floor of the senate. the rules will allow senator john fetterman of pennsylvania, who is often seen in hoodies orthotic shorts to wear his casual attire on the floor. fetterman has been testing club casually since being treated for depression. schumer and fetterman have not responded to requests for comments.

the collaboration with our sister company telemundo exhibit includes items like the outfit worn by peruvian american journalists lanka roosevelt is during a report of the september 11 terrorist attacks. she was one of the first journalists on site at the base of the twin towers because she was there to interview mayor rudy giuliani before the attacks happened. sure the outfit for several days as she stayed at the scene to report. select the object really speak to not only being camera ready, when we talk about that, but being brave and these are some of the bravest women i have ever met. it is really important for us to do this documentary project and this exhibit to say that spanish-language tv and these

turning to our climate crisis as the years go on, the summers just keep getting hotter. check out this graph. nbc news pulled the other data going back to last 70 years. the red bars are the summers among the 10 hottest ever.

and you can see after 2000 they just start stacking up. 2021 takes the crown for the hottest summer since 1961. and that year the heat was nearly 5 degrees above normal temperatures. at least nine other states reported their hottest summers the past three years. >> we still have a few days left of summer but nothing as spectacular about them. >> the exception to the rule at least for now because of the weather we just went through this weekend. we are seeing temperatures 10 degrees below average though the trend is similar california especially since 2010. the long-term averages have been trending a bit warmer than average. not last weekend, and not this one. look at insulin inland valleys that ought to be in the mid and upper 80s suggest the mid- ebenezer look at concord. 74 degrees. 76 in livermore. san jose, 78. pretty close to the average. san francisco very close to the average of low clouds. 69 earlier today and 70s in san

thursday looks more like temperatures will come down as the wind speeds pick up. we see showers to the east over the sierra and a bit of a northwind picking up that will bring a cooler air down. not just cooler air, look at this. a chance of significant showers for areas to the east which could involve, watch this closely as the system drops down. you want to see if there is cooler air involved, there it is their. a chance for elevations above 9000 and 10,000 feet to have snow showers. it will missus in the bay area. there is another look. that clears out. the high pressure should build back enough next weekend that the temperatures rebound closer to the averages we have missed this weekend. san francisco, closer to 70 or the low 70s heading towards next weekend and the valley temperatures which have been lagging behind will finally have a chance to get more summerlike as we start fall next weekend. we will get there eventually.>>
