shorts. let's check the headlines this half hour. we are learning that president biden is expected to meet soon with chinese counterpart for the first time in nearly a year. two officials tell nbc news that mr. biden is expected to talk with president xi jinping next month on the sidelines of the economic summit in san francisco. tensions have heightened between the u.s. and china since that alleged chinese spy balloon shot down off the east coast. the chinese military jet almost collided with a b-52 bomber earlier this week. the man who took part with the riot on january 6th, will go to prison. he was seen holding the plank before the police officer was hit by it. he later texted saying i helped

breakdown the door. more than 1,100 people have been charged with crimes related to the riot. richard moll who played the bailiff on "night court" has died. he died thursday in his home in calls. he played bull shannon on the original "night court." he used his trademark voice for voiceover work on video games and other animated projects. now to the growing desperation in mexico where residents and tourists in acapulco are struggling after the massive category 5 hurricane hit the area this week. many are having trouble finding basic necessities. valerie castro has more. >> reporter: now in total ruin.

manhunt is finally over, the healing process can begin to mourn the 18 lives lost. including josh sears, who leaves behind a wife and four kids. >> i think the people who know my husband were lucky. he was amazing. for those who didn't know him, they lost out. >> reporter: and we're also learning about the heroes. joey walker, a bar manager, who ran toward the danger. the victims range from 14 to 76 years old and the individual that was put on pause due to the shelter in place order is now scheduled for sunday night. laura. >> kathy, thank you for that. i appreciate it. now to the east where israel is stepping up attacks on hamas terrorists in gaza as the humanitarian crisis grows.

nbc's josh lederman is in southern israel this morning. josh. >> reporter: peter, good morning. the israeli military campaign is not over. we have been listening to the rumbling of additional israeli air strikes. the israeli military said the ground troops were inside gaza following the over flight assault. the israeli military targeted 150 hamas underground sites in those raids. israel is signaling this is not the full-on ground war. the military spokesperson said they were waiting for the green light from the israel political leadership. this does appear, peter, to be moving in that direction. the phone lines and internet in gaza are completely out gazans .

we got a message out saying people in gaza are now carrying their dead in trolleys. ambulances don't dare to go out on the streets. this morning, the hamas-run health ministry are calling on retired doctors and nurses and med students to pitch in with the wounded. those are the conditions that are leading the white house now to call for humanitarian pause and the u.n. to vote overwhelmingly for an immediate truce. hamas welcoming that vote, but israel calls it despicable. peter. >> humanitarian crisis and more than 200 still held hostage. josh lederman, thank you. president biden has a challenger to the election bid. he is seeking the nomination because he thinks the president might lose to the republican nominee in the general election.

good morning. thanks for joining us on this saturday, october 28th. i'm kira klapperment the former major league baseball player accused in a tahoe area murder has been expedited to california. this video shows deputies helping dan cerafini off a plane on saturday. he's accused of shooting his in-laws at their tahoe area home in 2021. his father-in-law died at the scene, the mother-in-law survived the shooting and died a year later. deputies picked him up in humboldt county, nevada yesterday and booked him into the ab burn jail. he'll be arraigned on tuesday. we're learning that a work laptop involving to district attorney pamela price was stolen. sources tell us it was taken
