right now on a special edition of nbc bay area news, we are following breaking news. has died. what we know about his sudden death. plus, a major block in gaza. also, high winds, dry conditions prompting a red flag warning. wendy's winds will blow through the bay area. good evening and thank you for joining us. the bay area on alert for most of the region. high wind, dry conditions, and increase in the fire danger. now, in the north bay, it has led to some park closures. first, let us get to rob man talking about the winds. not really at their peak yet.

>> we have been seeing most of those peak gusts. they are coming up over the next 24 hours. and, yes, it will be the north bay mountains seeing those wind gust at about 40 miles per hour. including around san jose, not much wind at all. we will see wind speed conditions changed tonight. the inland east bay is starting to increase, especially from about midnight to 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. and some of the valleys tend to see the breezes towards the morning. very low humidity this morning that we are likely to see tomorrow morning. not much more of a change then that. bone-dry conditions until morning. you can see over my shoulder, the inland east bay including the tryvalley. that red flag warning is that peak wind accelerates later on tonight. so we will be watching closely

in the bay tomorrow. tomorrow, when the wind speeds try to die down. that is coming up in the seven- day forecast. >> rob, thank you very much. this has led to some closures. >> reporter: we have closed the park over the weekend do to a red flag warning. >> reporter: chief larry formers with the fairfield fire department. >> it is significant winds and relatively low humidities, which those two factors alone without that he can really contribute to fire spread. >> reporter: temperatures have been cooler lately in the mornings but conditions remain. rockville hills park and other spaces remain closed. firefighters anticipate reopening the areas monday morning.

>> the reason we do that is to help reduce new starts that could happen. especially to where those new sparks can start very quickly. we want to help protect the houses around it. >> reporter: some people who came to ride bikes were surprised to find it closed. >> i did not expect it to be fully closed. yet. i guess we were taking our chances. >> reporter: but given that wildfire risks, they understood. >> every year, the destruction is getting worse. >> yeah. >> reporter: the protection district posted on social media, advising people not to burn anything, saying it had additional staff on shift. and marion county, the watershed is closed to vehicle traffic while a red flag warning is in effect.

israel have died, mostly in the october 7th attack by hamas. according to palestinian officials, some 7000 people including women and children have died in gaza since the war began. even blocking part of a freeway for a well, demonstrators are calling for a cease-fire in the middle east. this afternoon an estimate of 15,000 people rallied in the perry building before rallying up market street. they rallied up 101, shutting down the freeway near the bridge. one of the demonstrators we spoke with says, his family still in gaza. he has not been able to speak with him for a few days. >> i think there should be a cease-fire now because there are reports coming out of gaza. thousands of people are being killed. and a great majority of them

are children. >> other demonstrations were held today in l.a., new york, and washington, d.c. you cannot ignore the attention of it in the u.s. lawmakers of the lighthouse. aid, including water and food and casupplies, must flow in. we will have re on the demonstration in the city coming up at 11:00, and for the latest updates on the israel hamas war, go to our website, nbcbayarea.com. in lisbon, maine, tonight, hundreds lit candles to honor the victims of the latest shooting where people were run down at a bowling alley and a nearby bar. they ranged in ages from 14 years to 76. it came to an end last night when the suspect was found dead. the tactical team found robert card's body in a storage container at a recycling plant where he used to work not far

from his abandoned car. they say card shot himself. they told nbc news that they had grown increasingly concerned about his mental health in recent months. he had the quote tone and tenor of somebody who would not be alive much longer. >> what i have seen is that the individual felt like people were talking about him. it may even appear that there were some voices in play here. and we do not believe that any of that is accurate. and i think that led them -- him specifically back to those two specific locations. >> people in lisbon falls are able to breathe easier with the discovery of the body. more and more memorials are planned for tomorrow. we are following breaking news out of l.a. actor matthew perry has died at the age of 54.

a representative for the actor tells nbc news that he apparently drowned at his pacific palisades home. fire rescuers were called to the home at about 4:00 this afternoon about a, quote, water emergency. foul play was not suspected. police officers were on the scene. but details of his death were not immediately available. >> is a great place to meet women. but when i dance i look like this. >> perry was best known for his role as chandler bing on the nbc sitcom the '90s. chandler was a fan favorite. he suffered with addiction behind the scenes, something he revealed in his memoir "friends, lovers, and the terrible thing" that he released last year. a violent crash left one man dead around 11:00 this morning at the intersection of post and hyde. the white car right there was

speeding down the street. it hit the black car. that redirected the black car which hit a man who was just standing on the corner. that man died at the scene. the driver of the black car was not injured. police immediately arrested the driver of the white car. they had not yet said what charges that person may face. police department pulled the plug after just one day. opd began piloting the instagram and x accounts yesterday. the idea was for people to report car break-ins and send photos directly to the police. they originally said the accounts were to stay active through the weekend but they were deactivated last night. it was intended to be a limited test and everything went as planned. people living in a south bay mobile homes minute he woke up to quite an unpleasant surprise, and you can see it

traditionally bay area dungeness season starts on november 15th but this year it will be delayed by at least a month. the problem is humpback whales are still migrating south against the coast and they cannot get tangled up in commercial crabbing dear. you can still get crab but you cannot get it like you use too. you could try your hand at crabbing. by your own dear. have professional anglers help you bring back your own hall. a little caveat there. there is a limit of 10 crabs per person. >> we take the public out and they can actually go out on a trip that we offer or several moats around the bay area offer to take fishermen or fisher woman or anyone -- seniors -- whatever it is out on our boats and they can actually bring home up to their limit of 10 crabs per person per day.

>> you do not have to ask if it is fresh if you caught it. they will reassess the situation on the 17th and assess if it needs to be delayed any further. preserving affordable housing for repair and revitalization is the mission of a south bay organization called rebuilding forever in silicon valley. today, that is what we are doing. volunteers have materials to revitalize 18 homes in santa clara county on what is called rebuilding day. they make critical repairs to low income homes and community centers. right here, they are finishing and repainting a mobile home. the homeowner says it made a big difference. >> it feels amazing. i am so grateful and so touched that all these people were helping me and us and my family. >> rebuilding together silicon valley holds two days a year. mayor matt mahan volunteered

for this one and hopes to see more people up next one and that will be in april. the largest autism speaks walk was held at the giants major-league field in san jose. friends, family, people with advocate signed up to walk laps with money for autism research. according to the event's website, they raised about $34,000. people say it is a great way to build community and awareness around autism. >> i am here for my son who is four and just got his autism diagnosis. i am trying to bring awareness to everybody who may not be fully educated on this. >> autism speaks offers free services and resources for people with autism. a santa cruz woman has been representing the united states in rome next year.

far more impressive, she qualified at the ripe, young age of 64. i think i have got a new hero here. judy is going to be competing. today we caught up with her during her rigorous training. she has been skateboarding more than 15 years. you can see she is showing no signs of stopping. right now she is ranked second in the world in women's. >> for some reason when i am on a skateboard i am not afraid. knock on wood or knock on something because i still have a low-fare factor. >> man. you have got to have that. in addition to training on her skateboard, she does crossfit five days a week. if she is not weaving in and out of cones, she is encouraging young girls to try the sport. when she first started back in the '70s, she often was the only woman in the competition.

now she is answering holding separate competitions just for women. judi's drive to compete. much more in that crazy video. thousands came out for the festival of diwali celebration held at the indian community center. the indian diwali celebration wrapped up. there was everything from food and dance celebrations and painting. organizers have been putting on the festival of lights now for 40 years. in the beginning, only a few hundred people have attended. that has changed. >> we are very fortunate that we have been growing with it every year. more and more children are born here who have not seen our culture back home. at these festivals, they have an opportunity to participate and engage.

cultural performances. >> diwali is the biggest, most important holiday on the hindu calendar. it celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. all right. rob mayeda is joining us now. it was a wonderful day. >> not too windy for most places below sea level. but the mountains may seem gusty throughout the day. we will continue to experience those winds tomorrow morning. the reason for the weather alert is the red flag warning for the entire bay. wind speeds are picking up after midnight tonight into around sunrise tomorrow, especially around those north bay mountains. we have gusts around 40 miles per hour. a daytime try is even heading into the nighttime hours. relative humidity is normally at its highest. that will be one of the impacts of those offshore winds. relatively clear skies.

26% humidity here at this hour in livermore. you see that wind direction out of the east. not as much to get back into the central bay. oakland, 59 degrees. maybe higher there. and in san francisco, milder temperatures tonight. the wind sends more mild air down towards sea level. but the wind is a big factor here. outlook towards the diablo range. winds are likely accelerating. you see the pink and the purple there on the map towards 5:00 a.m. probably peaked wind speeds. notice that san jose is probably not going to see any of the wins. it is mostly for the inland hilltops. them by sunday afternoon, wind speeds or backup. a pretty nice forecast moving forward. 40s and 50s to start. by the way, up here you might see some 30s tomorrow morning.

noticed the temperatures for the afternoon. you might see 60s around lunch time and 70s to wrap up sunday. oh, yes. by the way, low 70s. wind might be a little bit of a factor but not as gusty and santa clara as hamilton and mount diablo to the north. now, as we get closer to halloween, temperatures come up with less windy. a similar path and a bit of a midweek warm-up. what about rain chances? right now, the best chance will not be around halloween. best one, thursday to friday. right now maybe the best odds will be early saturday morning. but as we quantify how much rain as possible in the next week, really there is not a lot. we are dryer as we head into next weekend. once we lose the wind, the
