at key locations on campus. and it is a key day in the trial against donald trump and his sons and the company the former president is expected to take the stand himself today. the defendants are accused of inflating assets on financial statements by millions of dollars in order to get better loan terms just a year until the 2024 presidential election, a new poll shows trump leading president biden in several key swing states we have complete coverage. we will start with laura jarett. good morning. >> good morning. you will be in the courtroom today. what are you expecting to see? >> the thing i'm watching for most carefully is to see if there is anything he refuses to answer when he was deposed in this case, he took the fifth hundreds of times he said in the past, people that took the fifth, whether they have anything to hide, they must be guilty. does he want to get on that stand in front of a packed courtroom and take the fifth i'm not sure

bells. let's go inside the numbers. where is president biden losing key voters. >> biggest issue is something we always talk about when it comes to any kind of presidential election, and that is the economy. how is the economy doing this is the top issue for 6 in 10 voters. 81% say the economic situation right now is fair or poor. that's even though you look at unemployment relatively low. the pace of inflation has slowed down interest rates are still higher, so people are clearly feeling that more than half the people in this poll say they trust donald trump to do a better job on the economy. more than half say president biden's policies hurt them personally there is another issue we talked about a lot is age 71% of people mentioned president biden's age as a concern. if you look at the numbers, only 39% of people say that about mr. trump who is only a few years younger than president biden this continues to be an issue for the biden camp. >> democrats are well aware of these issues you mentioned some of the

demographic issues they haves bn been strong in we are starting to see those numbers peel off as well what do democrats do between now and election day >> are democrats concerned absolutely some of them are. david axelrod, who you are familiar with, a long-time obama adviser saying president biden needs to decide whether it is in his best interest or the country's the continue running he is absolutely running here. i spoke to with a democratic member in congress who said, yes, they are really concerned about what these numbers show. same thing we heard from senator richard blumenthal saying the party has a lot to do. it is so incredibly early. this is a year out polls cannot be predicted in so many ways. polls showing president obama not doing well saying, hey, democrats did better in the 2022 mid-terms than people gave him
7:15 am
credit for a ton of pushback from people supportive of president biden in that orbit here. this is what the trump campaign wants to hear. voters under 30 who traditionally lead more democratic, president biden is only leading them by a slim, slim margin in this poll same thing with black voters, k savannah that is something the trump team is pointing to. >> we will continue to watch it. thank you very much. all right. 14 minutes passed the hour time to welcome craig to the table. >> good morning to you as well after 115 days of the hollywood actors' strike, there are key developments tied to that. what is being characterized as their, quote, last, best and final offer. nbc has been following this very closely. chloe, i know you spent the weekend tied to these negotiations.
