israel's war with hamas. overnight, israel releasing new video of air strikes filmed from a children's hospital this morning, israeli tanks on the streets of gaza city israel saying there is no cease fire. >> a cease fire with hamas means surrender to hamas. >> reporter: this explosion was next to another hospital where israel has said there is a hamas headquarters hamas accused of using civilians as human shields, accusations denied by hamas. the pictures show people killed, injured and terrified. hundreds of thousands are forced to flee from the north the daily pause announced from the white house is a continuation of its humanitarian corridors. but for the families taken in the october 7 terror attacks where 1,400 were killed, any pause is hopeful

likely to be replaced by a republican, which could tip the balance of a narrowly divided senate in 2024 but president biden staying positive with the growing likelihood of a 2020 rematch with trump biden pushing back on recent polls that show him trailing trump in key battleground states. >> 10 polls, in eight of them. >> do you believe you're trailing in battleground states? >> no, i don't. >> reporter: now, west virginia is as red as it gets he was facing a challenge. with manchin out now, republicans likely pick up one of the two senate seats they need to flip control of that chamber. what will manchin do next? will he run for president as he's teased before sources with direct knowledge of his plans say right now nothing is off the table craig? >> all right so we will wait and see. our senior capitol hill respondent, garrett haake. despite holding interest rates steady over the last few months, the head of the federal

reserve now says he is keeping the door for more interest rate hikes. the goal is to get it to 2%. right now it is at 3.7%. so what does it mean for your wallet let's turn to christine romans good morning so i think a lot of folks were kind of hoping that this pause would eventually lead to interest rates going down and jerome powell, the head of the fed, is saying not so fast, we have not broken the back of inflation just yet. >> that's right. inflation is issue number one for american families. i mean, you know when you go to the grocery store you are paying more for milk than two years ago. you are not paying more than last year, but you still see these high prices. the fed chief also saying there have been head fakes about inflation. he doesn't want to get tricked over declining inflation rates and think their work is done this is a fed that's quite vigilant over the biggest problem around american kitchen tables, which is higher prices.

>> but it doesn't seem to be stopping the average american from spending money. folks are still shelling out cash. >> this has been the big riddle. we have been watching consumers big deep to buy things, taylor swift concerts, beyoncé concerts, stuff, couches there are probably a lot of different reasons for that they're spending money like they're optimistic, so that's part of the riddle here overall. and the consumer is really holding up the economy here at this pointy here at this point, this is something that the fed is watching. yo so that's something the fed is watching as well you don't want the economy to be too strong because that fuels more inflation so that's what the fed is grappling with here. >> trying to cool dunt economy

the loose this morning nbc's maggie vespa joins us now with the very latest that was quite the scary scene in chicago. >> reporter: craig, that video is so jaw dropping to watch. to say the family is still in shock is a massive understatement mom and daughter were just coming home from volleyball practice last week when that carjacking played out in their own driveway unfortunately, as you will see, authorities say more and more everyone should be on alert for this kind of threat. that in mind, a quick warning, parts of this video may be tough to watch this morning, one family's nightmare serving as a warning to drivers everywhere. last thursday night, michelle pettiford and their 12-year-old daughter returned to their home in chicago when surveillance cameras caught two armed men, one in a mask, sprinting toward them. >> i think it went through my head like is this -- is this real

is this really happening >> reporter: you see them throw michelle down, grab her purse, point her guns at her. at one point one appearing to hit her. her daughter ran into the house screaming. >> you hear about blood curdling screaming. that's just something i will never forget. >> reporter: jack ran outside to help his wife. that's when one of the men put a gun to his head. turns out they wanted one thing. >> where are the keys? where are the keys and she's screaming, in my purse. >> reporter: jeff pointed them to his audi with the key fab already inside and the men drove off. the carjackers haven't been caught yet the scene marking a stunning trend. new fbi data shows while most violent crime fell last year, carjackings were up 8% from the previous year with nearly 90% of those carjackings involving a weapon one fatal flash point in d.c. where investigators say an off

duty federal security officer last month shot and killed a 13-year-old who tried to carjack him. this just weeks after a texas congressman was carjacked near the nation's capitol. >> i looked to the left, somebody had a gun to the right, somebody had a gun. >> reporter: back in chicago, stunned to learn the problem is so widespread, are afraid to go in their own backyard. >> you know, home isn't like a place of comfort and safety that it once was. which is really sad. >> reporter: going to be a long road to recovery for that family an update from chicago police. they tell us just yesterday, so a week after the carjacking, they found the pettiford's car and arrested a woman who was inside that car for misdemeanor trespassing. but, remember, there were two men in that video. they say they haven't yet caught those carjackers craig? >> we hope they found them

"doom 2," which was supposed to hit last week is set to hit theaters in march. delayed from march of next year to june 2024 and "mission impossible 8" has been bumped from june to may 2025 meanwhile, tv's time line for a return is sliding into next year. >> hammers will probably start

rolling as soon as early next week but unlikely to see any new episodes much before january >> reporter: deadline reports wolf entertainment, the company behind "law and order" and "chicago fire" could start production soon after thanksgiving but only put out 13 episodes that abbreviated season likely to become the new norm for network shows looking to get air. hollywood won't be back overnight. even if scripts are ready to go. because there is so much logistical planning. plus, some actors have multiple projects which ones will take precedence first. but one of the most immediate impacts we are seeing as this strike ends is that actors are already posting about upcoming projects for the very first time since july all of this hinges on the board voting on this deal, which is taking place later this afternoon when the details of this deal will finally be made public we will see those protections

the way they describe them talking about tactical and localized pauses. both the white house and the israelis agreeing that this is not a cease fire. and as you mentioned at the top there, savannah, we have seen more of that today. explosions around hospitals, around gaza city. the hospital according to world health organization, suffering a bombardment. that hospital in the past has been accused, it has been said by the israelis that it has housed a hamas intelligence base. hamas held vigils there and have denied that. meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of palestinians have been fleeing the north, heading south. and the israelis say that these pauses will be humanitarian corridor, perhaps two humanitarian corridors. so a bit more of a picture there of what israelis are opposing,

saying it isn't so much of a change from recent days. the white house and hostage families will be hoping for more for days to come. >> thank you very much. now to some shocking video that shows a car ramming into sheriffs deputies yesterday in what sheriffs are calling an intentional act of violence. we do want to warn you this video is disturbing. a woman called to report her son was having a mental health crisis. deputies found him in his car unwilling to cooperate. the suspect drive off but returned moments later and slammed his car into the victims. responding officers used tasers to subdue the man. both officers were seriously hurt. but, thankfully, they are expected to survive. all right. now to a new study that has the u.s. rethinking the meaning of a good night's sleep. it has often been defined as 7 to 9 hours of shut-eye. but the new research published in the journal "sleep" says

going to bed and waking up at the same times matters more than how long you sleep. it found getting 6 hours of sleep with a consistent schedule, that's the key there is associated with a lower risk of early death. dr. carol ash, a sleep expert from ryb. of course we don't want health, so we will get 6 hours at the scheduled time. but explain to me the logic here. >> we used to say, as you said, duration matters. because it increases inflammation in the body and leads to high blood pressure. but what we now know, this is the first study that showed that a consistent schedule, because it keeps the control of the body in the clock in the brain regular, right? and that's really important for many reasons. >> so it's less about how long you sleep, more about how consistently you sleep. so what about people who have, you know, for example, they work in the middle of the night but on the weekends they have a normal schedule. is that dangerous for them? >> well, you know, fortunately

in today's times a lot of people are working shift work and regular schedules. what that means is that internal clock is misaligned with the external cues. not just the light but also when you eat, when you exercise. and the brain needs those cues to keep it regular. so when you're not going to bed at the same time and not getting up, it suggests that that clock is out of sync. it's disrupted. its schedule is off. >> just so we understand this. when you say go to bed at the same time, give me a window here. do i have to go to bed at 9:00 every night. or 9:00 one night and 9:30 the next night, is that okay. >> a one to two-hour window. when you go to bed at night, it depends on your type. the night owls, the morning larks. some people a little later, some people a little earlier. but you have to keep it consistent. even if you said, like you said, six hours but a consistent schedule more important than

food loves football. it will be a great football game sunday night of course here on nbc. talking jets my beloved las vegas raiders hee for this particular we brought in the best chef here for this particular occasion cook book author matt moore. cheers, brother. >> cheers. this is something that really interests me, this idea of a cast iron pizza. how do you pull this off >> yes we have a bit of a grit of new vegas. i think nothing is more quintessential new york than a great pizza. and i like to say you can make a great pizza at home. i like to show you how you can make your own dough. if you want to sub out a store bought dough, that's totally cool, too. >> for a couple bucks, they will give you a roll. >> we have yeast and salt. we have a slurry here of warm water.

we have sugar in that as well. we will add that olive oil and then what we're going to do is just put this down, put it on a low speed. we will add in the rest of that flour. i like the consistency the bred flour will give it we mix it until it becomes sticky we roll it out on to a floured surface. . >> is this a proofing situation or - >> you can let it go for a minimum of four hours or longer. the more it sets, the better it gets after you knead that, let it rest you can actually cut it in half. then we will roll this out into a 15-inch shape to fit our cast iron pan i will roll this over, add this over the top one of the things that i like to say here is that i'm from the south, man we love our mommas and we love cast iron cooking. what i have done is heated this pan. about ten minutes in the oven. that will allow when we put the
