bay area app. type's in your zip code and get alerts about when the rain will fall right where you live. going to turn now to a live look in san francisco. this morning, people will notice roads opened once again, after a week of closures. after apec officially wrapped last night, crews were out taking down barricades in selma around moscone center and top knob hill around fairmont, san francisco. president biden gourded air force oniest afternoon at sfo following a week of historymaking and star-studded galas, along world leaders from 21 economies. if you were in the city, it was very apparent that san francisco was putting its best foot forward with cleaner streets and sidewalks. now many locals hope that that san francisco will remain even after apec is gone. "today in the bay" has a report whether city leaders have power

and money to retain the city 3 it presented on the global stage. >> reporter: slowly tearing down what was set up for the apec meeting. a security zone during the summit, rows like the one in front of the fairmont hotel where president biden stayed is now open. >> happy, when the bay area is happy. people being able to get to school, work, where they need to be will be fantastic. >> reporter: except not everyone is happy how the week went. nbc bay area obtained a letter from a handful of small businesses in and just outside red zones. asking the mayor to grant financial support for some. writing, my establishes suffered losses exceeding $150,000 over the week of apec. some restaurants and other small businesses sat empty and others made a decision to shut down completely for the week. >> the big boom we expected didn't happen. >> reporter: in other parts of the city like chinatown.

>> hoping to get more people to come in. for apec. obviously, it was just -- the same. maybe even a little bit less, because we were getting cancellations. >> reporter: this, despite the city putting its best foot forward to show the world it's open for business and noticeably cleaning it up. something the mayor told nbc area's reporter will continue now that the summit is over. >> my hope, of course, to continue this momentum. it's a very expensive endeavor, but we have been working on the progress of san francisco for so long, and our workforce is working hard out on the streets every day and our plan is to make sure this is definitely maintained. >> reporter: for san franciscans like melissa olivero, saying it's only fair. >> living here, paying taxes, having pride in the city and to not see it reflected how, our

partner than you. thank you. >> at closing of apec biden and all members gathered one last time recapping key accomplishments. biden then passed the metaphorical baton to the president of peru, where next year's summit will be held. hundreds of protesters, though, both supporters and opponents of chinese president xi jinping came face-to-face with an often violent protest. accessing the road near sfo in anticipation of president xi's beparp cher. demonstrators or opposing sides got into a brief argument as he waited for the president to arrive. opponents argued president biden should never have met with the chinese leader. xi supporters are encouraged by the potential strengthening of chinese american relation. two anti-xi protesters, we're told, taken to the hospital before police ultimately separated the two groups.

the search is on for the vandal who destroyed parts of a church in the south bay. it happened at st. john's baptist church in milpitas thursday night. church leaders tellis someone forced their way through the back door, went through drawers, cabinets, the tabernacle pried open and items stolen. also something detached from the wall. >> what they really wanted is only money and destroyed the vault inside for all the donations coming from outside. then also they took the nation box money also in front of the saint chapel. >> church leaders tell us they've cleaned up most of the mess. the bishop is planning to bless the space. the local chapter of the nation's largest muslim civil rights organization is condemning an alleged assault that happened in san francisco.

they say a seventh grade muslim student was attacked while she was walking home from school near north beach. leaders with the council on american-islamic relations with cair tell us they are not doing enough to hold attackers accountable. >> now nearly three weeks later, the school has failed to take any action. >> reporter: zahra billoo, executive director of cair san francisco bay area. october 25th a muslim student was allegedly attacked walking home. billoo says the student was punched in back of the head and struck multiple times in the chest and ribs and one of the attackers allegedly said this to the victim -- >> the attackers used the words, you fing muslims and continued to beat her. she suffered a concussion. >> reporter: the victim's parents sharing this statement tonight saying, i am deeply

concerned for my daughter's safety. she was violently attacked and the school and district failed to take action to protect her and need to move quickly to protect her and make clur to our community islam phobia will not be tolerated. the san francisco unified school district is investigating the incident and working directly with the impacted families. also adding, that we are deeply concerned by reports that hate speech between the students was a factor in this altercation. for california education code and district policies there are serious consequences for hate speech and violence. as the investigation continues, billoo feel as slow response sending the wrong message to the local muslim community. >> to think that a child was violently attacked, suffered a concussion and the district is still investigating three weeks later? how is this child and anyone that looks like her supposed to feel safe? >> reporter: reporting for "today in the bay."

the white house condemning elon musk accusing him of promoting anti-semitic and racist hate. this comes after musk agreed with a social media post accusing jewish communities of pushing hatred against whites. musk also recommended two accounts to follow on x to understand the war, but those are considered anti-semitic. musk also is fighting a legal battle with the anti-defamation league now apple disney and ibm among others announced pausing all advertising on x. the white house weighed in with a statement saying, "it is unacceptable to repeat these hideous lies behind fatal acts at any time let alone one month after the deadliest day to jr. jewish people since the holocaust." and hate week, pleasant hill

rain estimates for today not very high. just going to be high if you get that thunderstorm developing over your city anywhere from about half an inch of rain or less. temperatures today, pretty mild in those upper 60s for most of the bay area. by tomorrow, going to see those temperatures cool down into the low 60s. also accompanied with some wind. today, rain. tomorrow, wind and clearing skies. watch how these colors turn into those darker reds and purples there. especially through the north bay mountains. the coast going to see winds anywhere from about 15 to 30 miles an hour. so be careful with that. make sure that everything is nice and stored safely. not only for the rain but for the wind as we go on into the next several days, looking towards that holiday outlook, should see calmer conditions, if you want to take your plans outside for a change. >> nice to see that sunshine. cinthia, thanks. 7:22. much more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up, an enduring friendship that lasted 70 years.

overcrowded vehicles. only a skeleton crew has been left behind at the al-shifa hospital to care for those too sick to move. palestinian officials say the israeli military ordered the evacuation. israel's army meanwhile is denying that accusation saying it agreed to a request from the hospital's directory expand and assist in voluntary evacuations through a secure route. this all coming as israel has released new video showing what it says is its aeromissile defense system successfully intercepting a target moving towards israel earlier this week. israel's military saying on tuesday it had used the system to intercept a target over the red sea. the military said the projectile did not cross into israeli territory. did not say who fired it. rebels in yemen say they had launched ballistic missiles at various israeli targets. they claim to have launched missile and drone attacks on israel since hamas' surprise deadly attack october 7th.

at 45 past the hour we are under a microclimate weather alert as that low pressure system we've talked about all week finally has decided to come onshore and at times bringing heavy rain and even lightning this morning through santa cruz and the monterrey bay. storm ranger, see where the rain is now picked up by this red sweep you see here. that storm ranger on san bruno mountain. zoom in through the north bay. rain impacting 101 through san rafael, novato and parts of petaluma and napa county. yauchville, good morning. light rain this morning continuing through parts of the bay area over into the east bay. seeing rain pushing through parts of libbermore and int tracy over the next couple minutes. be careful from-of-if you have plans to head out early for the thanksgiving festivities, because we're seeing heavy rain now over interstate 5, morgan hill and gilroy.

hour-by-hour, not a complete soaker of a day. getting breaks here and there. hour-by-hour, going into the mid-morning hours, still seeing a few spotty showers over the north bay. heavy at times making your way into sacramento. as the afternoon and morning goes on it will continue to lift piling on rain and snow through the mountains. giving us a chance to step outside, get those around done, and by the time dinnertime rolls around, could see light rain through parts of the east bay and further down into to livermore and gilroy. all we'll squeeze off this system. going into sunday things look clear and dry for the 49ers game, but a few things to watch out for. those temperatures are going to be very chilly. not only in santa clara, but throughout the bay area. look at wind gusts gusting 10 to 20 to 30 miles an hour. behind this system winds pick up our sunday plans. here we go. another hour-by-hour lookout.

following this saturday morning including following developing news that just happened on 101 northbound in san jose. appear, the rain cause add car to crash into the center divider. again, 101 northbound near highway 87. lanes you see there were closed. we are waiting for an update on when 101 will be opened. avoid in a area now. rain earlier this morning really coming down in san francisco. it flooded the 101 freeway connector over south bend. about 3:00 this morning. about an hour later also in the city, a large tree snapped and fell on to a parked car. completely blocked leavenworth and bush. crews worked to clear that area. no word yet whether that road is reopened. as our team tracks the rain and potential thunderstorm, be sure to keep tabs what's happening in your neighborhood with our free nbc bay area app. type in your zip code and get alerts about when the rain will fall where you live.
